Chris Pratt is not the new Harrison Ford, he's the new Brendan Fraser.

I know I'm going to get crucified for this thread, but I can't resist.

Both are charming, beefy guys with a comedic background who got in great shape to anchor a major smash-hit franchise. Both did so by basically imitating Harrison Ford, but with a more comedic, self-aware, non-threatening sensibility which endeared them to audiences.

Fraser:

Now this isn't really a negative comparison, I actually really love the first Mummy movie, and I think Brendan Fraser is a decent actor. He's great in the Quiet American. But he certainly doesn't have the same kind of mega-star icon quality that Harrison does.

In light of all the Pratt-as-Indiana-Jones talk, I ended up watching the Force Awakens teaser and the Jurassic World teaser back to back. Pratt's a fun screen presence, but he's not Harrison Ford. He is to big movies what Jimmy Fallon is to late night TV. A little bland and overly nostalgic, but too good-natured to really root against.

Accurate.

Chris Pine is the superior candidate for Indiana anyway.

He has the look, the physique, the beard, and the comedic chops. He's a cool Kirk and would make a great Indy.

Brendan Fraser should have been bigger. Instead of Tom Sizemore or whoever generic dude they were pushing at the time

Pssh, Pratt is way more talented then Ford. Ford just been around longer.

Seems kinda premature to call it, innit?

edit: Not that I think he should have been compared to Harrison Ford in the first place, really.

If Chris Pratt doesn't lose his hair he could turn out more Harrison Ford than Brendan Fraser.

People talk a lot of shit but acting ain't that hard but you have to be able to LOOK the part.

Brendan Fraser didn't have the hair for genuine megastardom. At least Chris Pratt's barnet puts him in contention.

I pretty much agree. I mean Pratt and Frasier are both fine. Both are funny, while also good in some action movies. Both have/had their 15 minutes of fame. Until the next buff good looking funny guy replaces them.

Does Harrison Ford have "mega-star icon quality" though?

Honest question. Because his two biggest movies are still the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, and those were a long time ago.

He's had a pretty lukewarm career since then. And he's never been known for his acting chops.

Yeah. I can see more of a Fraser than Ford semblance.

Totally. I really liked Fraser. Its a shame his career never really took off in a meaningful way.

The only way Platt will be truly cemented as the new Brendan Fraser is if he drops off the radar any time soon. I don't see it happening because he's in some big ass movies but you never know.

I personally don't want him to go after Harrison Ford, he just needs to be Chris Pratt. Why chase after another legacy when you can become your own? But I do agree it's too early to make any sort of call.

For the record, I grew up on both Star Wars & Indiana Jones, and am a huge fan of Harrison Ford (hell, he helped me gain my American accent....well him, Mark Hamill, & Kevin Conroy).

Pratt seems to choose better roles, is more attractive, had a better pre-blockbuster career, and generally seems to be more talented of an actor.

I do get where you are coming from though.

Are people calling him the next Harrison Ford? Well...I would agree calling him the next Brendan Fraser is a much much more accurate comparison. It's also not a compliment in my book.

You can say a lot about Tom Sizemore, but "generic dude" is not one of them.

I love this shit. The cycle of people absolutely loving someone to totally hating them gets shorter every day. Chris Pratt's killed it everything he's ever been in minus a set of mediocre trailers for a movie no one's seen and all of the sudden he's slated to be the star of Furry Vegeance 2.

It's like how people actually think that Jennifer Lawerence and Michael Fassbender are bad actors because they take up too much time in their X-Men movies, or because Lawerence was annoying as a character that was supposed to be annoying in American Hustle.

Like Chris Pratt doesn't have those things. Indy is iconic but he ain't that complex.

He's not the next anything anyways. He'll make his own career based on his own role choices.

Let's just let him be himself and stop comparing every up and coming star to previous ones. I've learned GAF as a majority is wrong about 9 out of 10 times on every topic. This is no different.

He's had a few good hits other than those. Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. The Fugitive. Air Force One. Blade Runner's a cult classic.
