Ok not to keep on harping on how I think most of these complaints are nitpicky, but why does a companies name have to have a clear or relevant meaning to the consumer? What does Moby Dick have to with the company Starbuck's and its coffee? What do apples have to do with computers, tablets and phones? What do the oceans have to do Sanyo's electronics? What does Fuji film have to do with the mountain? Does it really matter? There's probably some symbolic significance to the creators of the companies or they just liked the name

I don't think its inherently dumb, but I'm not really a fan of having a developer's name be based on the product/franchise they produce. "Sonic Team", "Team Silent", "The Sims Studio", etc. If it's a internal nickname, like the "Team Zelda" and "Team Ico" examples mentioned earlier, then I think it's fine, but the studio's actual name? To me, it kinda stipulates the developer to make only that type of games or franchise the studio is named after, even if they don't want to make those type of games anymore and/or want to make original titles (indeed, does anyone who isn't a Sonic/Sega fan remember, let alone know, when Sonic Team made original titles? Yeah, me neither.).

Because it has no bearing on who they are as a studio or the kind of work they do. It's literally only an appeal to people's predisposition towards the words.

Sucker Punch wants their games to be as hard-hitting as a sucker punch. Epic wants their games to be epic. Platinum wants their games to be platinum quality. These are achievable things. But what does Cellar Door want? Naughty Dog wanted you to think of a couple of lowly guys making games. Insomniac wants you to think about people too excited about the game to go to sleep. But what does Cellar Door want you to think about?

They just want you to think about musty professors who in their esteem have deemed cellar door the most beautiful word pairing that exists. If you don't see how fucking pretentious that is then I have nothing more to say.

They like cellars.
