What would have been perfect is if both games became one, as the second has the replays function that the first lacks, and merging them together would have got rid of that feeling that they are a bit different from each other.

Even the disc version has them as two seperate games.

That's why you buy Ultimate NES Remix :p

True. Still hoping for GB Remix, too! That's one I think would work really well. Especially with a greenscale option.

That's why you buy Ultimate NES Remix :p

I know you're doing this on purpose >.> but I'll bite: then you miss some of the best games! As well as Super Luigi Bros.

The NES Remix games are legitimately fun and to call them a demo is a bit of a disservice. They can be extremely challenging, and the Remix portion itself is genius at time.

You're not paying for demos. You're paying for a mix of challenges from various games.

My mistake then. I didn't realize it was time based & skill based challenges. I look at the retail boxes and it seemed like a way to give more people exposure to older Nintendo fare all at once.

Wait, this means I have two things to ask you about, Dok.

One, why are you talkin' shit about Sticker Star in that other thread? ;)

Two, what do you mean by "demos" in NES Remix? The game has nothing to do with demos. At least, the first one.

I have no idea what you are talking about, good sir.

So what would you put in GB Remix?

Has to have Tetris and Super Mario Land, of course.

Well, Kirby can easily go in there, DK94 of course, Metroid 2, TLOZ: LA, Mole Mania, SML2 and Wario Land as well. Hell, even Mario & Yoshi ("Yoshi" for you muricans) would work and maybe be more tolerable. :)

amiibo Touch and Play, on the other hand, is definitely demos.

Demos that you, uh, have to pay for.*

* Yeah yeah, they're technically a bonus for amiibo owners, but pfft.

The second does a touch more than the first simply because of the nature of the games on offer. I agree with you that it's not really a compilation of demos at all, but in NES Remix 2 games like Zelda II and Kirby's Adventure have challenges more based on a bite-sized tour of the game vs. in the first game by the very arcade-y nature of many of the games like Excitebike and DK, you're being taught mastery of inherent skills in the game.
Indeed. I consider NES Remix a masterpiece whereas I'm not fond at all of NES Remix 2, simply because NES Remix remodels into something different games that often have aged badly: all their qualities are focused on and new, tough and fun challenges are created out of it thanks to its formula. Super Mario Bros. becomes very close to Super Meat Boy, for example. Whereas NES Remix 2 features more sophisticated, immersive games that don't need to be remodelled, and playing very short snippets of Zelda II or Kid Icarus or Metroid makes basically no sense given their nature, in opposition to the arcade nature of the games features in NES Remix. IMO, only the challenges from Lost Levels, Dr. Mario and Wario's Woods are good in NES Remix 2, the rest plays like one level demos, at best.

(if you can read French, you can read my review about it, which somewhat compares Wario Ware, Retro Game Challenge, NES Remix and NES Remix 2)

Has to have Tetris and Super Mario Land, of course.

Oh, good question. Tetris and SML for sure. Link's Awakening. Dr. Mario for sure, although it would have to be different than the NES Remix 2 challenges. Kirby games, esp. Pinball and Block Ball. Balloon Kid could be a good fit, but I haven't played it. Same with For the Frog the Bell Tolls and Mole Mania.

ETA: how in the heck did I forget DK '94? That's one of my favorite games ever since playing it for the first time a year or two ago. So that needs to be in there. Thanks Moon!

Yep, they're time and skilled based bite-sized challenges + remixes/mash-ups of various NES games combined, like beating Donkey Kong as Link. :)

About Sticker Star, I thought I saw a post where you implied there are only 3 good Paper Mario games? In the Paper Mario VC OT.

And that's why you buy all of them! :D

I've got all of them now. Even UNESR thanks to sörine!

I'd totally sign up DK94 as the best Game Boy game. Which includes the GBC line. That game was something else for me back in the day on my old brick GB.

I have Kung Fu Rabbit on Vita actually.

I can't even imagine how revolutionary that must have felt compared to most other GB and even GBC games. I feel like in terms of scope and content for GB games, excluding turn-based RPGs, only Link's Awakening would have rivaled it. I'm still astounded by how amazing it was to play it so recently.

I tried Sticker Star when a friend had a 3DS and I had no handheld. I'll just say it's not for me. I don't think I'm the only one who finds it polarizing.

DK94 was and still is amazing. Best Gameboy game for sure, and up there as just one of the best games full stop. The control they gave to Mario was just unprecendented. People think Mario 64 is where his acrobatics began, but it was here.

World 9 is a highlight for me and I have a save at the beginning just so I can do it whenever I want.

I think I got it before LA came out and only had played the SML 1+2 and the licensed TMNT games before it so DK94 was something completely different to young 9-year old me. I also played it a lot on the Super Game Boy with those awesome frames.

And hearing Pauline actually yelling "Help!" instead of just screeching at you.

What a pity the 3DS will only play it as if it's an original GB.

Indeed. Honestly, if you count it among the Mario platrformers in general, it's still one of the best. Amazing game. Would LOVE a true sequel from Good Feel with their art style and level design brilliance.

You're definitely not, and I wasn't meaning to give you a hard time (sorry if I sounded that way), I just feel like that game is really under-appreciated and generally unfairly maligned. Have you played a lot of it?

Incredible game. The sense of movement as you learn Mario's skillset is amazingly clever and the game feels like what Mario could have been if it had evolved differently from the original DK Arcade game.

Super GB I never had as a kid but it always seemed really rad. My first console was N64 in 4th grade.

Up to 1-4. I thought it was a little too simple for me.

Getting the Puzzle and dragon demo and the adventure bar demo. I might grab Kung Fu Rabbit if I can. Just gotta wait for my net to get back to normal. : |

Understood. I think it has quite a bit of depth to it, surprisingly so, and becomes pretty complex if you go for 100% and think of it more as an adventure game than a traditional RPG, but as you said it is a polarizing game for sure.

Kirby's Dream Course has a neat little easter egg as the name panel.

Yeah, I think I would have at least somewhat liked it as its own separate game/series, and not part of the Paper Mario series.

As it was, I was extremely disappointed in it.

I'm interested in checking out the amiibo Tap stuff on Wii U, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it is on the eShop?

Edit: Never mind. eShop just updated and it's right on the front page.

eShop's updated. Time to download Mario featuring Puzzles & Dragons.

Interestingly, it's "Special" Demo Version. 641 blocks.

Edit: HOLY CRAP NO PLAY LIMIT, FINALLY.

I think I got some good demos out of the 11 Amiibo I scanned:

Toon Link: Super Mario World
Mega Man: Metroid
Lucario: Kirby's Dream Course
Luigi: A Link to the Past
Kirby: Legend of Zelda
Ike: Kirby's Adventure
Smash Mario: Super Metroid
Gold Mario: Super Mario Bros.
Toad: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Sonic: Donkey Kong
Villager: Kirby Super Star

Wow, there's a LOT more strategy involved than I gave P&Z credit. Figured it'd just be another similar match-3 game.

Scanned my Fox amiibo and got Super Metroid, the only one I really cared to see.

Smooth as silk, 60Hz version as expected.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Not in the Amiibo game. I got Samsus when they first came out cause I love the Metroid series. Wanted Link, but I didn't like his yellow stand. Figured I'd just pass. Liked Toon Link, but never saw him in stores.

Well my SO went to the store last night, and I guess the boy child drug her back to look at the figurine aisle. He knew I liked Toon Link, but never saw him. They randomly had two, and he convinced mommy to get it for me as a surprise present!

Now I have two amiibos! Got them both on my little night stand shelf on my side of the bed!

PS: My SO was like our bedroom isn't gonna be taken over by your figures now is it? LoL

Is this really a big deal to people? Playing a demo more than once?
Well, yeah. Maybe I want to play again now that I know what I'm doing & feel like I did a better job/get a better grasp of what the game has to offer.

What if there's multiple pathes or stages?

What if there's more than one character to try out?

What if I heard there's some secret or something I didn't discover before?

What if I want to keep going back to it until I can afford the actual game?

It's more of the fact Nintendo finally put out a normal demo via normal means. No restrictions, no "special version", no distributing demo codes a week early via random people then everyone else can get it later. Don't get me wrong, 30 plays is a large amount, but when it's like 10 plays for certain types of games (Project X Zone, a RPG you need to play a few times to get the hang of what's going on, had FIVE), then it starts to become more noticable.

At least something like Sonic Generation's demo, which was only available for a few weeks (& you couldn't play it after that period until a new demo was out), allowed you to play as many times within that time period & it was more of getting feedback from players on how to improve the game.

Haven't played it so I don't know if you mean this in a good or bad way ;)

I had it installed on my phone for a couple of months until I deleted it because it was taking up too much of my time. There is more strategy to it than your usual match-3 and I like the gameplay, but I'm more curious if I'll burn out on it without the stamina timer and what the RPG elements are like.

Part of me is tempted to nab the smartphone version now, but damn storage issues would probably prevent me from getting it.

I do like how it feels like there's more strategy here for a match-3 game, considering the movement of orbs can actually affect the orbs around it.

...granted, I'd probably be content if I could spend $10-$15 JUST for the Mario version.

Thanks for the impressions. I'm hoping the combination of Mario-ness and some strategy will be up my alley. I know my wife likes this style of puzzler, so that's my main impetus for picking it up. (Plus, Amazon was kind enough to offer their original 25% discount once the price changed so it'll be like $22.50.)

Just submitted a new patch for my game. 99.9999% it will pass! Europe version will be submitted on Sunday (all I really have left is e-Manual stuff and some quick fixes for the different languages and their placements)

Looking back, I really wish I made this big patch into multiple small ones..

Man, another shit week for Wii U in NA. Paper Mario, the game that's been available to buy on Wii and Wii U for ages. No Wii VC releases yet again. Horrible sales on mostly junk shovelware. Shin'en with their lame sale again...I mean can't you at least hit $5? $6.70 for games that are usually $8.99/$9.99? Come on. And another week of zero discounted Nintendo games. This month has been quite bad for Wii U eShop imo. There is increasingly less reason to even check the shop every Thursday.
