I called this in the prediction thread saying there'd be a drop from the first, but it seems even I was optimistic with my 200m prediction. IIRC someone in that thread predicted a 245m opening weekend lol.
Even ignoring the big fight, there just doesn't seem to be as much hype this time around.
am i incorrect.....i think alot of people are getting "marvel fatigue" judging by the mixed reception of avengers 2...
why are people so adamant about defending every MCU movie though?
I don't think marvel fatigue is something that actually affects the general audience and is instead something that people on the internet like to discuss as a thing. The general audience also rated the film much higher than the critic reviews.
It's not about defending the movie. It doesn't need defending. It's more about the fact that you said it had nothing to do with the fight.
People paid $400M in PPV for the fight and those people are most likely the same exact demographic that would see avengers opening weekend. $400M!!!
Remember guys, second place is the first place loser.
Hot pursuit will open at 250 Mil next week. Mark my words.Second weekend will be more interesting.
I honestly can't tell how many people in this thread are joking.

i dont know about that
RT for Avengers 1 was 92 percent
RT for Avengers 2 is at 75 percent

Those that complain about the Marvel "formula", what do you suggest they do differently? They are superhero/action movies, what else is there to do?
General audience != critic reviews.
Not to mention the number of people that went to sports bars, or people that went to friends houses. I saw a local group of friends that did a giant projector in there backyard for the fight. So many people there.
I wouldn't weigh in the audience scores until the film has been out longer.I don't think marvel fatigue is something that actually affects the general audience and is instead something that people on the internet like to discuss as a thing. I didn't realize Episode VII had opened yet...And people thought this would make more money opening weekend then the new upcoming Star Wars. lol
Avengers: 4.4/5

A single episode of Daredevil on netflix was better than the entirety of this movie. I hope Marvel goes back to the drawing board and works on having fewer characters, a more intimidating villain and lesser unfunny one liners. Winter Soldier is a great template to improve upon.
Is there Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Civil War Part 1 and 2? Like two/three different movies? Seems confusing.

As the weekend wore on, it became apparent that Saturday night's Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight was hurting Ultron in a big way. Some box office observers believe the movie could have approached $200 milion were it not for competition from the PPV event.
Costing $89.9-$99.9 to watch, the fight is expected to have generated hundreds of millions in revenue. Additionally, thousands watched the fight on pirate sites. "The fight dinged all films across the board. The numbers on Ultron are still phenomenal but definitely less than they would have been," said one rival studio executive.
Males made up 59 percent of Ultron's audience, while nearly 60 percent of ticket buyers were 25 and over. Families represented 22 percent and teens, 12 percent.

ok, i agree with you that the fight probably played a huge role then, but isn't anyone getting tired of marvel's formula, why don't they ever change things up, as someone said in an earlier post there are no literary value to these movies like some of the best runs have in comics
4 pages in and people are still holding onto the sarcasm. Amazing.
It is. In every quantifiable way besides the novelty of seeing the team together for the first time.Is it a better movie than the first?
