Kill it with fire.

Stop with the lazy ports and give Tales Of a proper budget!

We don't even know how the port is, plus its coming out the same time as the pS3 version so its not even a port, just another SKU really.

Is this game good?

I've heard its decent.

But there was a whole controversy about the girl who was advertised as the heroine from the first previews and screenshots along with the main hero(as in, jude and milla type advertising) ending up only being in the game to build a bridge for the actual gang and then leaving for the rest of the story.

I'd say they were more constrained by the technical shortfalls of the PS3 given what they wanted to do with the larger zones, etc.

I wonder if we'll return the to PS2 days of naming and call the PS4 version. Tales of Zetiria: Director's Cut

I think it's budget more than technology. There's certainly games that look far better than what Tales has managed with its fields.

probably both. They probably dont have the budget to expand their engine tech, or go further than they have been.

How accurate are Best buy listings?

Pretty damn accurate if they have a SKU for it. Considering all the other leaks about next gen and PC version of Zestiria, I highly doubt this is an error. Hell, I'd say it would be impossible for this to be an error, especially considering how niche this franchise is in the west.

Well, that is a lot of smoke for rumors.

I am happy for the PS4 version .

I played the PS3 release and there's a lot of slowdown in battles. Not game-breaking, but enough to become a pain. It's the kind of game that deserves a current-gen treatment, since it is very clear that the PS3 was at it's limit.

Would not be surprised if the PS4 version is basically the main game plus DLC and graphical/performance enhancements whilst the PS3 version is basically the original Japanese release translated.

Namco bandai trying to get on dat early JRPG rush. There's a lack of JRPG's on the console really and this could really give the franchise a boost for those who have never played Tales.

My question is, why would they let their western marketing arm go forward advertising the PS3 version with a trailer of the inferior version if they were just going to announce another SKU a few months later?(both before the release?) WHy not just announce both at the same time?

To me it seems like the Tales part of Bamco is going through things given that they keep trying to shake things up and from the outside it looks like the quality of their releases is dropping whether its because of problems created when the teams merged, or a lack of budget. I'm just hoping they learn from this game when they finally make a PS4 title.

Its all the things. The lack of budget Namco bandai gives the tales team, the annualization taking its toll, and the technical knowhow not being at where they need it to be. Its something they should really look into.

If they need a streamlined next gen engine for new tales, they should probably look into UE3 or UE4 like the rest of Namco Bandai is using

I'm wondering how Japanese fans will react to the inevitable announcement of the PS4 version considering how pissed they got about the extra episode DLC.

I don't blame them. Vesperia getting a PS3 port a year later. Graces Wii being incredibly buggy then getting a PS3 port a year later. Xillia 1 being heavily advertised as a 15th anniversary title with all these grand ideas only to be rushed to release to miss that anniversary and getting a tacked on sequel as an FFXIII-2 (complete with bizarre story). And now this? Will they even fix the battle camera?

I agree with Sammy Samusu. They just need to give Tales of games a proper budget and release a complete game for once.

Technically speaking, they haven't made a new console mothership title that was complete upon first release since... Abyss. That's just inexcusable.

Edit: I'm not saying I think they do lazy ports. I'm saying the first release of the game often seems really lazily done.

IMO,because Japan is priority market.

They'll not announce something before it's announced for Japan. And in Japan, there's an avenue for it, which is Tales Festival.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

There are already, and it's called the Star Ocean series. ;)

If vesperia wasn't complete then symphonia and abyss weren't either.

Is this more multiplayer friendly than Xillia? I felt like link artes (or whatever the mechanic was) made that game a bit less multiplayer friendly than something like Abyss. I like playing Tales of games with other people.

What kind of content? I remember some unused voices for mystic artes, and that's the case in most of the tales games.

There's also data suggesting that Patty was planned for the 360 version. Given how much new content the PS3 version had I'm assuming they just held back on some ideas.

Something to do with references to Patty, from what I heard? There may have been more.

Less multiplayer friendly if you want more than a second person playing alongside you.

There's evidence of content present in the PS3 version being cut from the 360 version, in addition to the PS3 version having a crazy amount of new content.
I'm aware, but it didn't affect my playthrough.

Zestiria, on the other hand... I wish I waited for PS4, because of the issues with framerate, anti-aliasing, and pop-in. That kind of stuff doesn't usually bug me, but I think Vesperia looks more aesthetically pleasing, despite the age gap.

Whole new party members and boss fights.

All games have cut content though, either from time restrains and budget etc. it's not like Tales are any special case.

There's a lot of stuff listed here.

Most of that stuff is pretty normal for a Tales game.

The whole Patty thing, sure, they probably had an idea of her, but ran out of time to place her. When they got the shot to make a PS3 port, might as well add her in along with Flynn.

Considering she doesn't really add anything to the main story, it's not like the 360 version suffered for not having her.

Never doubted for a second that this port was going to happen eventually.

PS3 being on decline + DLC debacle/controversy all scream port with improved performance/graphics and said dlc included.

I see. Some unused stuff as usual but I didn't know about Patty. My point still stands though, US release of Abyss having cut contents from the JP release as well as minor differences, and the game also having awful framerate in the world map, with long loadings shows it wasn't really polished either.

I think Abyss suffered in the west due to Legendia being crap and scaring Bamco until around the time Xillia came out.

What's a proper budget for tales of games?

If they're planning them as international releases now, which they absolutely should be doing, then they should be able to afford to bump the development budget up a bit.

There's only so long an international audience will be willing to give them a pass on things.

I'm sure Bamco in all their infinite wisdom back then thought that releasing Abyss in the same month as FFXII was a great idea.

Putting aside the fact that i would like Namco bandai to give the Tales team more resources aside, the fact that Namco bandai is trying to aim for closer releases between Japan and the West literally says nothing about making the game international.

Having played the game, The engine strikes me as originally intended for the PS4 but downgraded a shitton for the PS3. Hence all the performance bullshit in the PS3 version.

Nice, hopefully its true. Wouldnt have minded and was fully intending to get PS3 version, but this is a much better solution.
