the 80s Drive/Hotline Miami shtick can kinda get old but im surprised at how they nailed the look with the weird compression filter and all.

Style over substance?

they're certainly banking on style for the pitch but I like arcade racers enough. looks like it'd be fun to play

also plenty of game modes

Game Modes

Power Drive 2000 offers more than the traditional arcade racer. Six unique game modes create an exciting new experience. Most modes support online and local split screen multiplayer.

Race Mode
Standard race against the clock or challenge a player's ghost from the leaderboards.

Collector Mode
The player's score is based on time and how many diamonds are collected during the race.

Outrun Mode
Weave in and out of traffic as you try to outrun a police chopper through the streets of an 80's cyberpunk and neon city.

Vaporizer Mode
The walls of the track are lined with a laser fence. You touch them and it's game over. No checkpoints. Not for beginners.

Gauntlet Mode
Dodge obstacles in a procedurally generated environment as you try to escape a giant laser wall barreling towards you. Different from most 'runners' as you will have to make 90 degree turns and travel parallel to the deadly laser wall you are trying to outrun.

Turbo Mode
The player will start the race with unlimited 'Turbo' for boosting.
Multiplayer
Online and local multiplayer support. The player can also challenge ghost plays from the leaderboard.

Dang this looks cool. Also, this type of synthy music does not get old at all to me. I'm digging these sort of soundtracks lately in movies too like The Guest and It Follows. Granted they're not as beat heavy just more synth sounding, but still same vibe to me.

Looks rather good, though I'm a tad skeptical with the gameplay since I haven't seen much. They're saying it's a preview that is subject to change but I'd love see more videos to confirm it's actually running looking like that.

You assume DRM means steam right? They don't seem to actually specify.

This looks dope as hell. The filter and graphical style looks like it's reached perfect marriage with the speed and mechanics.

Style heavy it may be but this is another game I must admit I'm dying to try out. Arcade racers is one of those genres I love yet no one does enough of them these days. Also can we get like, Tron-esque light cycles in this game? It would be perfect. I want to play a game like that.

EDIT: Oh fuck, Mega Drive, Carpenter Brut and Dance With The Dead are already confirmed to be on the soundtrack? I AM SO IN.

Looks like Out Run, which isn't a bad thing at all. I'd love for them to put in a mode similar to it (branching paths/pyramid course), or a dynamic mode like Heart Attack from Out Run 2.

Independent developers:

Realising that Instead of super realism, they can instead perfectly replicate 80's neon early CG in realtime, and bring back Synthwave music.

Dear GOD the soundtrack.. Backed like the neon fist of an angry Cyber-God!

That music, so good. For me this isn't style over substance any more then a F-Zero game.

As far as Kickstarters go, $45,000 seems pretty reasonable, sure they'll have no trouble getting this funded.

Whilst were on the 80s train, has everyone in here seen this? Totally unrelated project, but I think it fits in pretty well.

Yeah, these definitely go together, though Kung Fury comes out this month and Power Race is set for this month next year.

Really looking forward to this myself. Need some arcade fun like this and huge fan of Knight Rider, TRON, Bladerunner, Akira, etc. and the Track-Mania-Kart vibes I get from the trailer. Once I looked through all the synthwave artists on the Kickstarter I increased my pledge to include soundtrack. Hope the dude makes it!
