Dang this looks cool. Also, this type of synthy music does not get old at all to me. I'm digging these sort of soundtracks lately in movies too like The Guest and It Follows. Granted they're not as beat heavy just more synth sounding, but still same vibe to me.
My theory with synthy music making a comeback is because it's really not like anything out there nowadays. It's less heavy as most electronic dance music you hear, and feels more "cold" and alien. It's a reason why I always felt it was a perfect sound for horror movies, you get a feel of isolation and inhuman coldness. You really can't do that with a typical Han Zimmer-esque "epic" score.
Apparantely chromed logo + curved grids + pink is people's idea of what the 80s looked like. Reminds me of
this PBF.
Not really. It's more based on sci-fi pop and commercial art of the 80s. It's just one part of the decade that seems to resonate with people nowadays. Music wise, I think the reason why that sort of synth has made a comeback is because it's not like anything else out there and allows a unique experience. When there's a void and someone's sick of what's considered normal or modern, sometimes something out of the ordinary(be it original or a blast from the past) becomes popular again because it goes against the grain.
I tend to have more a problem with 80s-set movies that don't even try to present the era right, and either go into full-on spoof(where everybody is wearing neon clothing, headbands, leg warmers, Michael Jackson Thriller jackets and such) or "let's just hire a bunch of hipster looking actors and just SAY it's the 80s(and play 80s music to remind the audience it's not now, but the 80s)". I think I'm more critical towards THAT type of shit. To me, shit like
this is MORE of a disservice to the 80s than the whole "retro future pop art" thing:
That shit's as 80s as a fuckin 80s themed dance.
This trendy pseudo 80s style is already starting to get old.
Different strokes, I guess. I can name MANY different modern trends(and people that are gushed over) that I believe has gotten older than this.
