Rumor: 20-30 Minutes gameplay demo of Fallout 4 at E3 / not coming 2015

As long as it's more like New Vegas than 3, I'll be good. 3 was great, but New Vegas just has more to do and better writing.

I'm still personally expecting a release this holiday. I don't have any knowledge on its release date but there are a few factors that make me convinced rather than not. The game's been in development for quite a while now and it isn't the kind of game that needs a year + of marketing and advertising. It's a new Fallout game, everyone knows what it is, everyone will plop down 60 bones on day one regardless whether they announce it's coming a year from now or a week from now. There's no need to build up "hype", just look at what happens to the internet at any mere mention of the game, everyone's already busting at the seams before it's even announced.

Many developers and publishers are becoming more wary of announcing big games very early on and draaaagging out their marketing schedules. It's an impediment more than it is beneficial for the game. People lose interest over time, they start scrutinizing every little piece of news or info and it's counterproductive. We've seen this happen.

It's also a reason why Todd Howard said as much as he did here: https://youtu.be/V0MpuiYJkuI?t=21m51s

Thanks for posting that interview. It was quite insightful and a fun watch.

I'd prefer to wait until 2016 and know they haven't cut corners catering for old gen consoles.

Yup.

I played FO3 on the 360 and it was a great experience. Played NV on the PC however and was burned by bugs somewhat, but overall it was a better experience.

So GAF, Mouse/Keyboard or Controller? What's your preference when playing Fallout?

I'm confident that no matter what we see or hear about this game, it'll be released before the end of 2016.

The moment they announce it at E3 I'll be like:

Since that same time Bethesda, has released a couple Skyrim expansions. I'm not complaining but its really frustrating as a big Elder Scrolls fan looking at 2019 - 2020 for TESVI.

They have a small team by AAA standards, and they make some of the biggest games out there. And they're likely overhauling their engine again for the new consoles. Not too surprising to me that it's taking this long.

More so, the competition in wRPGs has increased. Bioware did pretty good with the open world in DA:I, CDPR is now fully in the console space with a great looking open-ended game, there's a new Mass Effect on the way, and Deus Ex has re-emerged in the wRPG realm. They know they can't rest on their laurels if they want to maintain momentum beyond one more game.

2015 is turning out to be extremely disappointing for me. Wow. I'm a massive Uncharted fan so that delay really hurt. That was my big Fall game. Plus Tomb Raider was bought by Microsoft for Fall 2015. That would've been a perfect way to fill the Uncharted void. I had been kind of counting on Fallout 4 to be this Fall. Now not that either? 2016 currently looks much stronger for PS4 owners. Thank goodness for Witcher 3 this Spring. Maybe Deus Ex will make a miracle Fall release. That'd be awesome.

I dunno why people expect 2015 release for unannounced games.

Spring 2016 is like best case scenario

The company strategy for Skyrim was to lower the time from annouce to release. Announcing F4 for Fall 2016 would go against that, assuming the strategy is still in effect.

Personally speaking, a Spring release would confirm that it was planned for Fall but it was delayed. Considering they've tried to keep to Fall release dates since Oblivion.

I like how they say "no longer 2015". So it was going to be a quick E3-to-Fall reveal-release at some point, hm?
Assuming any of this crap is even remotely truthful.

The good news is that maybe by 2020 they will have been able to incorporate gameplay from 2005 instead of remaining stuck in 1995. Skryim is still one of the prettiest/most immersive games to explore (above ground anyway) on PC with mods, but boy is the combat still terrible.

Forza Horizon 2, Halo MCC, LBP3, Every Sports game, every call of duty, every assassins creed. You see any similarities between these and Fallout? Obviously not annualized on Fallout, but the above games don't need big marketing "hype" stretches. The brands are established, and people will buy them whether given 6 months notice or a year and a half.

Fallout falls closer to a title like Madden than a title like Sunset Overdrive

6 months isn't that unrealistic of a thing to expect, especially with Todds comments.

Considering it's their first panel, I can't help but assume they're going to be going all out. I really hope we get Fallout 4, DOOM, and Dishonored 2. That alone (even sans Dishonored 2) would be enough to probably kill me. For years I've been wondering what the next iteration of Fallout would look like. It's beyond exciting to know that we may be finding out very, very, soon.

I hope it's more like 3 than NV. NV was cool but the world seemed a bit boring to me. It had some better gameplay elements but I loved the capital wasteland way more.

This will be my entry into next gen.

I will watch this video and then nothing else until release.

I hope it does not release the same time everything else does in Spring...
If we are going to have to wait, I could wait until September 2016

No kidding!

Using my two favorite developers and franchises as an example, Bethesda and DICE (I know, I know.. BUGS). Skyrim and Battlefield 3 launched roughly the same time with in a span of a couple months in 2011. By the time Fallout 4 releases in 2016, DICE will have announced and released the following:

  • Battlefield 3 Expansions
  • Battlefield 4
  • Battlefield 4 Expansions
  • Battlefront
  • Battlefront Expansions
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Mirrors Edge Expansions
  • Announce and possible release Battlefield 5

Since that same time Bethesda, has released a couple Skyrim expansions. I'm not complaining but its really frustrating as a big Elder Scrolls fan looking at 2019 - 2020 for TESVI.

If they released a new game earlier, it would mean they had to use Gamebyro as an engine again. I don't even think they're releasing new versions anymore. Bethesda games from now on will probably use a new engine, probably even id Tech 6, which would mean faster development from now on, just like EA as soon as they started using Frostbite everywhere. However, less than 3 years of development for any RPG is never a good idea. Mass Effect 3 and especially Dragon Age II suffered from it. You might have to wait for your favourite franchise, but at least it's more likely that you will get a better game.

2016:
Fallout 4
Mass Effect 4
Final Fantasy XV

All potentially released in proximity to one another.

Man, next year is shaping up to be awesome.
(Also said in 2013 and 2014)

Instead it'll be more like dragon age inquisition only with more dlc.

Let's get realistic expectations here. If we don't get a map covered with a metric fuck-ton of pointless box ticking I'd be shocked.

Would be interesting to see how far they dip their toes in Microsoft's waters this time. Will they stick to timed exclusivity on DLC or go beyond that?

I would be surprised if it did appear in 2015, I was expecting October 2016 going by their past record.

If they are reducing the time between announcing the game and releasing it, that has yet to be seen.

Current gen only and a new engine for gods sake!
It would be awful if it came out in 2016 or late 2015 and looked nowhere near as good as witcher 3 or even GTA4.

I can not for sure tell you it is Fallout 4 as it is still listed as code name, but from what I can only assume it is and makes sense with their development cycles and such and considering the Replicated Man quest in Fallout 3 as well as the previous "confirmation" from Kotaku on the casting sheets. (Which was the only solid evidence I found prior to stumbling across this information and freaking out.)

Bethesda has a listing for November 2, 2015 for a game titled "Institute". I can also say that they only have it listed for PC, PS4, and XBOX One.

Now that the big news is there, here is some side news. They also have a listing for sometime in September to release Fallout Anthology. I can only confirm for XBOX One and PC

also guess who came back?

The Survivor 2299 is back online and says "Nuclear Winter has come"

THE INSTITUTE IS SEALED. THEY WON’T HELP US I’M HEADING TO BLACK ROW. -TBNLS 5120 - Nuclear winter has come

so when Pete, Todd or Gstaff says its a go
then I will believe this

This fall be four years sins skyrim released and I can't imagine fallout being fall 2016 release. I stil hope for 2015 but I can see it being released Q1 or Q2 2016. Not many days left till E3 now, can't wait.
