Customer takes advantage of a "free meal" for a bill of £700

Everyone judges until it's their turn to take advantage of a deal. Let Amazon/Best Buy/etc price something incorrectly and watch how many people on here flood to see if they can get it before it's changed back due to error. Of course there are those that wouldn't, but finding people that actually follow the morals they preach isn't that easy. I'm not condoning anything, but ethical decision making is subjective, so it doesn't really matter how I feel about it.

She got greedy and paid the price, you don't take a kind gesture and try to exploit it.

Great example. You all disgust me.

The woman took advantage and she is kind of scummy in my book because of it, but they should of assumed people are scum and set a limit.

Yep. The woman in question unarguably acted out wrongly because the excess is obvious and singularly caused, but the same happens when a group of people abuse pricing errors, where each individual may be causing significantly smaller damage but as a group, probably significantly more.

Volkswagen Group is one of the largest companies in the world. I'm not going to shed any tears because one of their Audi garages has up to pay for a fancy meal which they offered without price conditions.

This reminds me of the guy who wanted to test the limits of unlimited internet use and ended up using 700tb of bandwith in a week or something and they had to shut him down.

On one end im glad there are people who push the limits of free and unlmited

On the other end that's just rude to exploit when others are paying for your stuff.

How do you get to 700tb?

I'd have applauded if it weren't for the fact that Audi pays for the damage and gives her a free rental car. 711 pounds is just way over the top.

How does one 'not see any problem here'? Is it because it's Audi? I understand the stick-it-to-the-corp mentality, but not in this case.

Is she opening up the ranch dressing for the pizza?

Nah, it's a chaser for the 3L of coke she's about to slam.

I agree, I wouldn't have spent that much but thats besides the point.
That's actually the point. If you wouldn't have spent that much in exploiting the garage's generosity, why? Clearly there's something egregious about their bill to you even if you'd go fancier than normal on the garage's dime.

On the contrary, I think the large majority of people, when actually placed in this woman's shoes, wouldn't have even remotely approached the level of extravagance that she did. There's a reason this is a news story. It's interesting because it's borderline sociopathic. I'd argue that something is intrinsically wrong with you if you can do something like this and not feel totally ashamed of yourself.

Poor poor Audi Dealership. I hope they are able to recover after this and contribute to audi's worth of 12 billion dollars.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Is it an offical shop owned by Audi or a mom n pop? Whether or not I think she is a shit speckle or not depends on this detail.

"Stick it to the corporations!" and "lol you didn't say how much" are comforting justifications to counterbalance that nagging "wow I'm a dick" feeling the person would likely have.

Not sure if it's the same where you live, but garages like this in the UK are independently owned businesses that hold licenses with car manufacturers. They are not owned by the manufacturers themselves.

edit: This is the owner in question. http://www.spireautomotive.com

Eh, she technically didn't do anything wrong, but imo was morally wrong. Honestly, I don't think it would ever cross my mind to do this myself.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Good for her, they wrecked her car and they offered. I'd have loved to eat there on someone else's dime.

Well personally, I don't find anything wrong with a multinational corporation having to pay out extra for their fuckups, but then, I also don't see corporate entities as people, so I don't shed a tear.

Audi can foot the bill.

If we're talking about a Mom & Pops, I'd have a different reaction.

Eating there would have been fine if they didn't order enough drinks for 10 people.

If it was me, I'd pay for the £200 of food but not the £500 of alcohol. A bottle of wine, sure. Two bottles of wine, champaign, cocktails, and more... that's not a meal.

Audi should have specified No Alcohol at least.

Or gave them two complimentary glasses of champagne only, or something.
The lady did abuse they goodwill, but since they did not specify anything, she is not "wrong", even if it feels like she was just taking advantage of the situation.

We are. Audi neither owns nor manages this garage.

Kind of a dick move, but they obviously should have set a limit. Ultimately the garage's fault, but I can understand why they're upset.

I'm with the dealership on this. They were more than compensatory in fixing her car and giving her a free rental. She abused their hospitality and I 100% agree with them paying half of the bill. She blatantly held that 2 person lunch as a revenge bill for her car damage. And she didn't even have to pay for her car damage...

lol a lot of stress. If they gave her a loaner, which I'm guessing was also an audi, I'm not sure what high amount of stress she had to go through. It's not like insurance had to get involved if they offered to fix everything on their dime.

I'm sure the vehicle depreciated more than the cost of the meal and lol at people saying the garage fixed it like it was some favor. They freaking damaged it.

Fine, then they gave her a sub car in the mean time. Even if they were suppose to pay for it, offering a free meal and paying for the car while providing a sub in the mean time is enough.

She went a little ham with the drinks but these Audi dudes should pay up. It is what it is.

How those are all required things except the meal. Insurance gives you a rental car and repairs. They literally did nothing above and beyond except the meal. The rest they are legally obligated and chose to handle themselves BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPER FOR THEM AND SAVES THEM MONEY. They're not some good Samaritan.

If insurance wasn't involved I believe the repair won't show up in Carfax type records thus the depreciation wouldn't occur unless she freely advertised it.

So your saying to fraudulently sell the car when she's done with it. Jesus fucking Christ. No wonder people never want to buy used cars private party.

It's an Audi dealer, they're luxury cars.

That's not to say she SHOULD have had a $1000+ meal but their idea of "have a meal on us" from a luxury car dealer is probably not "go buy a couple of soft serves from Mickey Ds".
