Every work of fiction you read its through the eyes and accumulated experiences of this one. Its hard to divorce yourself from it and it probably means that you are not getting all (the good and the bad) that you could potentially get from a book.

Its like reading some hentai shit and thinking "Wow this is some sick pedo..oh okay it says right here this child is actually an old demon, carry on then".

I really don't see things that way. To make an example out of your example, I think that's a perfectly reasonable explanation because it's fictional, so the rules of the real world (where we obviously don't have ancient demons that look like children) do not apply.

I very much doubt that happens. Would also hardly explain why she walks around in a bikini

Oh, I doubt it too. I don't think even he would think "I can totally pull off an interesting commentary on being transgender!"

I suspect the idea that she somehow uses photosynthesis is much more likely (and appropriately silly for MGS).

By the end of the game, you stare at her face instead when Snake develops real feelings for her. It was a nice touch.

That is a damned impressive way of delivering that point, I do enjoy the way games allow for the delivery of emotional moments via mechanical methods. My stand out example to date is the end of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
where the now dead older brother helps the younger one swim by the use of 'his' stick to swim I actually choked up at that point

*as the character she's using her sexuality to get the upper hand on because she's trained in a charm school*

Case in fucking point, though. Actually saw boobs and jumped to conclusions.

Except in context, this game (and series) has model viewers that make the girls' boobs jiggle with the slightest movement. Besides, Snake is more attracted to her shooting techniques, so the boob charm is really just for the player to be a voyeur. Which hey, okay, just own up that's juvenile

Well, I guess we're done here then.

Well I meant more like best male booty, haha. Snake is the reigning king of booties amongst male characters if you ask me. Even though Cpt. Falcon in Sm4sh is really trying to take that throne as well.
Good point. Can't say I pay attention to the fellas on this, but you can't NOT notice Snake and Falcon's booties. Particularly Snake's x3.

I have not say anything about the doll, nor about the themes of the series. As a rule, when you point out hipocrisy there should be a point of reference made by that same person, otherwise it looks like you are just grouping everyone into a single entity. And thats dumb.

Ok, fair enough, that's fine.

I'm asking you directly then. How do you think will the figurine in particular affect our society or the industry(don't mind this "industry" point if you want).

Kojima master troll. It will turn out that Quiet is fucked up by some sort of hideous sexual violence done to her and when you find out that in the game you will regret masturbating to a quiet figurine with squishable boobs.

pretty sure that's exactly where this is going... and its completely fucked up

I mean if she is a victim of sexual violence and they are further sexualizing her action figure? christ almighty Kojima..

I don't think I'll ever understand this line of thinking. And there's no super secret "political agenda" being pushed - its open discourse.

A political agenda isn't something bad perse, but it is what is going on. From both sides (whatever they are now, because I don't care about their claims). There is a comic that explains my point properly, a dude makes "art" someone gets offended by it, other people get offended that others got offended by "art" and then they start to discuss and use "art" as an object and or ammunition for their claims (sometimes taking it to the extreme) and then you realize most of this people don't care about "art" as product or art on itself but just use it to make a battlefield to complain and scream at each other.

Someone got offended that Quiet figurine got squishable boobs, other people got offended that someone takes offences of Quiet having a squishable boobs figurine and then they are complaining at each other. When the thing is quite simple, it is a product that cost money to make, you don't like it, you don't buy it. If the market as a hole doesn't care about the product, the product will just disappear on its own. It is simple. People shouldn't get offended by things that aren't meant to be offensive but rather just make a profit withing the limits of the law.

Well we've already had rape in the last game(involving minors none the less)
Kojima will go for shock factor.

Yeah this is much more plausible than the transgender man-to-woman theory others are citing. There's actual evidence of children of sexual abuse either growing up very introverted or never talking about it IRL, so I'm gonna roll with this one.

But my point still stands- why does it matter that the product launched a broader discussion? And further, why isn't this a good thing?

Maybe. He didn't sleep with her guns, though. He slept with her. Can't deny her body and flaunting it played a part in that. And none of this actually undermines EVA as a character on her own with enough agency to outwit the main protagonist of the game -- in this case through sex.

But oh no! They actually let the player look at the cleavage?!

Because then we are talking about politics rather than videogames. If I get on Mario thread and complain that Mario is an offensive troop of immigrants working on low paying jobs on Ney York. I don't want to discuss the videogame I don't want to discuss the character, I want to discuss politics. Currently there are several games and or topics (comics for example) that are being treated like politics. This thread is a prove of that. Japan has been making this kind of thing for years, from almost every IP on their reach, I would guess this isn't the first videogame squishable boobs figurine on the market, but suddenly it is news worthy because there is a political agenda (from both sides) to be pushed in here when the usual reaction of someone that has been following the series and the news related to it will just roll their eyes, laugh and then move on, perhaps post something like "Never change Japan" or "God damn it Japan!" and then move on.

Politics? LOL, Have you ever played a metal gear game? It's one of the most political game series out there. Ground Zeros was Big Boss infiltrating Guantanamo Bay with plenty of torture of prisoners of war.

You seem to be trying to hide behind the label of politics so you can dismiss any criticism with no effort.

The free market is a terrible method to measure societal progress by. Toy manufacturers used to sell boatloads of blackface dolls, but then it became taboo for black people to be portrayed this way in popular culture (which I'm sure you think is a good thing) so those toys faded away.

I'm not offended by Quiet or the action figure at all. I just think it's ridiculous that Kojima is trying to spin her as something more than a subject of the male gaze. There is no reason for her to be dressed like that other than to be ogled.

Now imagine someone would say that to a real woman.

Kojima... God bless this man. Sony should give him a studio. They'd let him troll.
I've seen lots of comments like this, so I'll bite:

Who exactly is he trolling with this, and why is it a good thing?

Real women should be free to dress themselves however they want. But Quiet didn't dress herself.

Only Kojima would do something like that.

Now imagine someone would say that to a real woman.

A real woman would have made that choice herself and if she were a sniper operating in Afghanistan she would be answering that question a lot just as a male sniper who chose to wear nothing but speedos and fishnets would too. The digital puppet called 'Quiet' is not a real woman and has been designed by men so all of those choices are male ones, if she isn't all about the male gaze they've done a very bad job of illustrating that.

Not sure if addressed, but I wonder how the voice actress Quiet is modeled after feels about this. I mean, it's essentially her face and body made into an action figure with squishable boobs.

Just want to repeat this for the new page. The play arts Big Boss figure has a soft plastic chest as well, yes you can deform and manipulate Big Boss's pecs if that should be your desire.

It's a posability thing, so that when you have poses that require the arms to compress against the chest you can push it in and get more range of motion. For Quiet its the same concept, I doubt you could get that figure to convincingly wield a sniper rifle without soft body plastics.

And yes...Kojima is perverted (no shit), but everyone here seems to think the soft breasts were explicitly designed for "fondling" but thats not the case. ...if it were I guess they thought people wanted to play with Snakes breasts too

Huh, had no idea the can make figures like that

Who cares
Like many people on this page, you fail to see the quite obvious distinction that Quiet is not a real person who makes choices for herself.

Well said.

I'm sure if she feels strongly negative about it, she'll be happy to endanger her paycheck to get her point across.

Did Kojima post a tweet of himself or the PlayArts director fondling Snake's pectorals? Or is that behaviour reserved only for the character with mammary glands? It was, then I guess this comparison is the definition of disingenuous for like the 3rd page it's been on.

Ok. That's fine. I think it's a little silly, but it's just a figurine, I don't care if other people are into that stuff. Not sure why people are getting so upset over this.

But my point still stands- why does it matter that the product launched a broader discussion? And further, why isn't this a good thing?

Is not something good or bad, but we should called it differently, Politics. That is what it is being discuss here, and the post I replay to was about that. Someone made the claim that a lot of people seem to be discussing about games they don't care about only to start a discussion about politics, other people claim that why only customer/fans can criticize the product and then I said because we would be talking about politics rather than the game, which is what we are doing now, we are discussing everything but the product itself.

I am not saying that we shouldn't be discussing politics (if people like to) but that we shouldn't disguise it as a gaming discussion.
