I like the smaller seasons, it works, even though Empire gaining more episodes is a bit nerve wracking. And now, some networks have shows to fill in for the marquee shows while they are in the winter break, it helps.

It'll be interesting to see how that shakes out. I'm sure Supergirl will premiere decently, if not better, but I have no faith in CBS keeping a genre show on the air for the long haul.

If you told me only one of the two would still be airing new episodes in the 2017-18 season I'd say enjoy season four of Gotham.

Its great, but it is also blatantly transparent. I just wish this stuff could be more organic and natural rather than so forced.

Don't worry the networks are gonna overcorrect next fall and nearly every show will star a Don Draper-like character regardless of genre.

I never understand people who write off broadcast shows entirely, but whatever. I guess there's enough elsewhere that you can still consider it the lowest of brow or sewer discharge.

Well, generally, doing fewer episodes of a show = more expensive, because there are costs that you can amortize out per season.

An example: If you rent a stage for 13 episodes, that will cost more than renting a stage out for 22 episodes, on a per-episode basis. Renting equipment is the same -- yes, it costs more for 22 episodes than 13, but on a per episode basis, 22 is more inexpensive. And if the eventual goal is to get to 100 episodes or 88 or whatever, doing that by 22 episodes increments makes the most sense.

Though Paul Lee did state that there are different financial models they're using to make shows like Agent Carter and American Crime profitable, ala British shows or cable show. I'd be curious to see what those are.

ETA: Life in Pieces. So hard to see Dianne Wiest in a comedic role. She was so good on In Treatment as Gina so it's hard not to see her as that role.

Both the Supergirl and Limitless trailers were really good.

I actually laughed at the Life in Pieces trailer.
Several times.
"I looked in my box."

Angel from Hell looks decent too.



I want to watch more than a few of their shows. I can't believe it.

Overstock jokes are funny, but also, for real, Overstock announced they're getting into the original streaming video content game, and presumably to bulk up their offerings they'll also buy streaming rights to bubble shows, etc.

So Arrowverse is not the same as MOS/BVS-verse? So...there's a TV and movie verse and never the twain shall meet? Seems overly complicated. They might as well do Supes/Bats TV shows then. I guess I kind of knew this w/ Ezra Miller as The Flash but it's still odd to me. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Other CBS trailers:

Angel from Hell - looks fun especially with Lawson and Lynch. Not sure if the 6 min or so trailer was really needed but I guess it got some of the jokes through. But for a 22 min show that's almost giving up an entire act.

Code Black - I guess it's ER. I never watched enough of ER to really have much to say but it's a medical drama in that vein I guess.

Life in Pieces - got flashbacks to Modern Family's pilot, I guess that's the point. The cast looks fun, I'll have to see more though.

Limitless - I haven't seen the movie but alright if they can pull off some crazy elaborate shit because that drug lets you do mental gymnastics, and less "guy who takes the drug uses it to vomit exposition".

See I feel like...I like the TV shows for these comic properties by and large better than the movies. The comic-y stuff tends to lend itself much better to serialization. For me, MCU/DCU films <<< MCU/DCU TV, although I don't watch Gotham and I bailed on Arrow this season so I guess my serious dislike of MoS vs. the fun I have watching The Flash really color the DCU comparison for me. *shrug* I just feel like the more cohesive these universes, the better serialized stories they can tell between them, and the better brand synergy they'll have. It can't be good for the Flash TV show that the movie will star someone totally different and be entirely unrelated.

Whatever, honestly. Arrow/Flash get really self-indulgent sometimes. Supergirl has a bit of it in the trailer at times, maybe they'll reign it in, maybe they won't. I'm sorta interested regardless even if comic book shows mostly come out sub par unless you are in love with the source material.

Angel From Hell: Looks relatively charming. I like Jane Lynch and she seems well suited for this role. Could be fun.

Limitless: Another of those "human computer solves crimes" series ala Chuck and Intelligence. Meh.

Supergirl: The rom-com vibe makes it look like it belongs on The CW. Still, it seems like it could be fun* in the same way The Flash is fun*.

Code Black: A Very Dramatic ER Drama from the Channel that Brought You ER.

Life in Pieces: This actually looks pretty solid? But also kind of terrible? whynotboth.gif
