Windows 10 Tech Preview (with the latest AMD beta driver)

1080p

Everything on Ultra except for foliage density (high), shadow quality (high) and Hairworks (off), dips to around 55 fps. Everything on Ultra + Hairworks puts it roughly at 30-35 fps. Hairworks alone kills the framerate by almost 50% from the looks of it, and foliage density must be a good 20-25% too (and the difference doesn't seem to be *that* big, or at least I haven't noticed).

Looks great and runs great, although I haven't had much time to play it today.

So far, running around outside the first settlement you find with Vesemir, I'm getting a pretty solid 60 with no hairworks and grass density and distance set to high.

Hairworks is cool, but I'm not thinking it's worth the cost. May try cranking everything all the way, downsampling from 1440 and locking at 30! Just for fun.

60 is where it's at :)

Can you tell me you your configuration or show me a screenshot.

I need to see what I'm doing wrong then.

Hairworks is not happening on my system, at least not at 1440p. What a shame, it looks really nice in the clips on the Geforce page.

Edit: It also crashes when I try to use Reshade + sweetfx! Hopefully that will work in the future.

3570k and a gtx 970 here @ 1080p on ultra, not many problems. I'll get fraps up in a minute. some studdering during early cut scenes, but looking good so far. Controls feel weird though.

Yeah this is pretty much my experience as well with the same setup. Ultra on everything. Cutscenes at the start (tutorial) has some stutters but haven't seen it since. Only about an hour into the. No crashes to report.

Am I overlooking something or are there no Brightness settings in the PC version? I found a Gamma value in the visual config file, but changing it from 1 to 3 doesn't seem to changing anything on my end.

Performance is much worse than I thought, but the upshot is that the 30 FPS lock is really well implemented and smooth as silk. Not even gonna try for 60 FPS.

I just set everything to high, turn off hair works, turn on HBAO, and forget it.

(Also, no crashes so far but it's only been 30 minutes)

I have a similar setup as you, I am still installing now but am going to try my like at all setting high @ 1080P and see what I can do to hit 60FPS. I'll turn down the foliage density, shadows, and turn off hairworks.

2500K @ 4.5 Ghz
GTX 780 SC (3GB)
16GB DDR3 RAM

I'll edit this post once I get some time to play. Hopefully I can avoid the crashes people are experiencing and CDPR is able to address the issue soon to come up with a fix!

My i5 4690k and 970 is running this at a smooth 60fps with most things on ultra and no hairworks, but by god the stuttering as I'm riding the horse is bloody annoying. Also, if I'm riding the horse at its slowest speed it seems to just replay the same 5 frames of animation in a loop and skips every time it loops. Looks awful.

Anyone gotten SweetFX working yet? I want to desaturate the image a bit, but it crashes as soon as the game loads.

Kinda disapointed by the performance right now.

Running on a i5-4670k, 16gb of ram and a 770.

Medium preset in the settings and mostly getting between 40 and 55. Lots of pop-in and the blacks are crushed.

You'll be able to run it on Medium at a solid 60FPS with hairworks off I'd imagine.

It will look similar, probably better than PS4, but with the added bonus of silky smooth frame rate which is what ultimately made me go with the PC version.

Oh and Medium is nothing to cry about in case that sounds disappointing, the differences between Medium and Ultra aren't too much of a gap. It still looks great.

Useful image on how well you will be able to run the game HERE.
Thank you! That's a helpful image. Though I should have added I'll be playing it on my monitors native 1920 x 1200 so I'm not sure how much of a difference it will be...

EDIT - Also, has anyone bought the game from cdkeys.com? Is that a legit site? It's $38 on there right now.

Is any one else using a controller and get jumping/stuttering when panning the camera on the horizontal axis? Up/down is fine but when I pan left/right the it jumps like crazy (even on solid 60fps)

Wow, slaughters my 980 at 1440p. Still in the prologue staring at the mountain pass with everything minus chromatic aberration and sharpening at max. Getting 30-40 FPS on a 980 clocked to 1520 MHz; where is the "980Ti" already, I need it.

Side note, does GOG Galaxy have a screenshot function? Steam's won't work.

Edit: I disabled hairworks and turned shadows and detail level down to high. Now I get a stable 60 FPS. Amazing what a couple settings can do. The hanging leaves in Kaer Morhen look pretty bad.

Using the RAZR Sabertooth and panning on foot is smooth as silk.

Select ultra first. Now cap the framerate at 30 and turn off hairworks. I need to turn down shadows and foliage range to high to prevent dips below 30fps. You may or may not have to since your GPU is faster than mine. If you are getting huge dips, hairworks is the only thing I can think of. I believe high turns Geralt's hair on, and ultra turns it on for everything, so each time you change the preset, you need to turn it off.

SSAO vs HBAO+ in post processing can make a small difference.

Runs smooth between 35 and 40fps at 1440p, everything maxed out and with HairWorks on.

5820k @4.0GHz
EVGA GTX 980 SC
16GB DDR4 Ram

The biggest fps killer is HairWorks. It's up to 10fps more without it.

For people wondering why cutscenes stutter, they use ubersampling by default. They're also capped at 30 FPS.
You can change this in the config file in your documents folder.

What are the results for the 760?

If you want ~50 FPS, run it mostly medium, some high.

High settings, 1680x1050 res and SSAO. Getting 45-60 fps with vsync on.
Played 2,3 hours straight, no crashes or stuttering.
Even though fps is not locked to 30 or 60, it still feels smooth, atleast for me.

Make sure you're in fullscreen mode with vsync off.

I have a similar setup. But playing at 2160p. Dropped foliage settings to high and turned off hairworks. Locked fps to 30.

Is there any better AA alternative than the in-game one that won't destroy my performance? I don't think downsampling will work for me (I have a 760 2GB, running pretty much everything at a mix of medium and high so I don't have much performance to spare).

mostly 1080p/60fps at ultra + hairworks if foliage density is turned down to high on a 2600k, 16gb ddr3 and 980.

although indoors when you get real close to geralt's hair it starts to drop all over the place, disabling hairworks ensures a pretty consistent 60fps but it just looks kinda crap without it.

edit: no crashes though, its been running without a hitch on that front. probably gonna switch over to my gsync display to see how that fairs

Screw it, I'm done for the night.

Never had this much trouble with a PC game in 15 years.

Runs great until it crashes...7th time just now.

Oh well.

I'll see what's up on forums tomorrow.

Running 1440P maxed with Hairworks on a 2500k@4.7Ghz and 1350Mhz Titan X.

Had some stutters in the beginning cutscenes, but gameplay seems buttery smooth with GSYNC. Played for an hour, no crashes or noticeable dips.

Could probably run 4K if I turn down Hairworks and Foliage Distance, but the post process AA seems to do a great job most of the time at 1440P so don't think that will be necessary.

Anyone know if there is a way to disable the annoying gamepad messages when using one and going into the menu? I really hope CDPR fixes that so it only appears once.

For the very, very, very few of us running CF AMD setups......

I'm running a 2500k @ 4.5 2x 7970s (1150/1650) and I get about 25-40 fps on Ultra with Hairworks off and SSAO. This is with the default CF and Witcher 2 profiles. It's definitely not working right as my gpus max out at 45% use on both....

Setting it to AFR friendly gives me 55-60fps but there's flickering everywhere.

Safe to say this game is not Crossfire ready so hopefully AMD will get a driver out soon, but we all know how well this goes. =/

EDIT: This is at 1080p.
Flickering sucks, but future CF performance sounds promising once a proper driver is released.

Everytime I try to "Optimize" the settings through the GeForce Experience the game tells me that it has been updated and all my settings are reset to default.

That thing is a really buggy mess.

Ughh... Yeah it,s so annoying.

Anyone having problems with the keyboard/mouse and Controller notifications popping up every 5 seconds. How the hell do I get rid of this?

So is it like GTA5 with the crashes (mostly due to overclocks) or are most people experiencing them? Thinking about picking it up...

Nothing on my system is overclocked. Of the 90 games (across 3.5TB) I have installed, none of them crash.

It's the game.

Unhook/turn off your mouse....or make sure it doesn't move in any way.

As someone who has hundreds of steam games and has also been PC gaming for ages, trying to play a major PC release on day one is almost always a crapshoot. I usually give devs a week or so to sort stuff out before I seriously play a game. There are hundreds if not thousands of hardware configurations to try and QA for, some things just don't happen until a game gets out into the wild.

Also getting the crashes every 15 minutes. i5 4690K, Gigabyte GTX780ti factory overclocked, 8gb ram. Game installed on SSD with latest Nvidia-drivers.

Is anyone else getting white and black flickering objects in the distance? One time it came close while I was riding the horse, and literally threw me off the horse and made the horse disappear. WTF?
