Can anyone read the ui text in The Witcher 3?

I can read it just fine. It's the proper size for the game.

I have been gaming for well over 15 years now and I have to say this goes in my top 3 of all time games with terrible font size.

I disagree with it being "proper size". It is horrid. No joke, I don't even try to read what I pick up anymore because I know I would be causing unnecessary eyestrain.

I simply wait till I get to a quieter area, stand close to my tv, and then open my inventory to view the materials I've gathered.

Keep in mind most here seem to be talking about the ps4 version, which is most likely being played on a TV rather than a monitor.

It hasn't bothered me but I heard Jeff Cannata complaining about it on DLC. Hopefully it gets patched for people who have a hard time with it.

Can anyone screenshot it and show me? I don't have the game yet
Best I can do (I was trying to locate a cow using my witcher senses)

You're all sitting too far away, simple as that. Text is a little small, but if you were the proper distance from the TV it would be less of an issue.

The classic "everyone's having a problem but since I'm not having it there is no possible way it could be the game". You're either sitting way too close to your TV, or you're simply ignoring this.

If the above wasn't obvious, yeah I'm totally having this problem. I don't have this issue reading the UI of either of my consoles or the text/UI in any other game. The last time I had this issue was playing Dead Rising on a CRT back in the day. The text is way too small when I can't read it on a 50inch TV from the length of the Xbox One USB cord away. (Playing on PS4, but that's my distance reference.)

The HUD is not as bad, it's the menu and inventory that is the main culprit.

I am sitting 5-6 feet away and my TV is 42 inch, no I am not sitting too far away and the game is at fault here because it's the only game I've had trouble with since Dead Rising 1 on SDTV.

I feel like repeating the post I already made about this issue in current games
You want an UI that takes up half your screen?
We want text that is readable being "far" away from the TV.

Is this bad? Does this take half your screen?

Exactly why is this better?

I get that some people (me included) play on really big TVs and / or close to them, but there is no reason there shouldn't be, at the very least, a big / small toggle for text.

----
I'm not really that affected since I game on a PC, on a 32inch TV, usually with KB and mouse, but even when I use a controller I still am on the chair. But if I do try to play on the bed, text in most games is impossible to read. Ugh

Maybe it's a case of petty revenge for all the abnormally large text PC gamers have had to put up with in multiplatform titles.

Reminds me of FFXIV when it first hit the PS4. The text size was ultra small and very hard to read when you were on the couch 6-8ft. away. Nigh impossible really.

SE quickly patched it though.

I find the camera movement and angle to really trigger my motion sickness too. I'm starting to regret getting this game.

The font size of pretty much everything but the subtitles is just an insult to couch gamers isn't it? There is just no way anyone can read that without squinting or sitting 50cm from their tv.

How are you guys dealing with this? It was horrible in the Witcher 2 as well but at least they somewhat improved it with patches and mods later on.

The subtitles are almost ok, all the rest is for ants.

Only said the exact same thing today; they are horrible in your inventory screen. It is really hard to see what the hell anything does/is. I hope they patch it quick.
I would have thought it was my eyes only for I just got my eyes tested and I have nearly 20/20 vision lol

Yea, seriously. I get it that some people aren't having this problem, but dismissing it out of hand when there is evidently a ton of people who are is just ridiculous. My eyesight is decent. Telling people to get glasses is pretty f'd up, and a lot of those people who said their eyesight was poor are wearing glasses anyways.

I play on a 50" TV, about 4-5' away. I play a ton of console and PC games that way and don't have this problem with other games. All I would like to see is an option to make it larger. If it works for you, great! But some of us would like to increase it.

I can read it, but I'd prefer if was bigger. The fonts are significantly smaller than those in TW2, and they weren't exactly enormous in the first place. Also, the grey font on a grey background for books and letters doesn't really help with the legibility either.

I've been hearing people have this problem and I'm not getting it fortunately.

And I'm playing the PC version on a 32" TV @ 1080p so there isn't much screen landscape to begin with lol

To be fair, if you're a comfy couch PC player, you're getting doubly punished.

50" TV, perfect vision with glasses, reading alchemy ingredients is a pain in the ass...
Yeah, it's not necessarily unreadable, it's just unpleasant.
I could start using 8pt fonts in my professional emails instead of the standard 11pt Calibri uses, that would still be readable but people would be right to complain or stop reading my emails.

Its bad. Ive resorted to always hitting "take all" when looting anything, due to the fact that I havnt been able to read a single item description. With all the random crafting items and shit, I have NO idea what all the stuff is in my inventory. I think im gonna sit 2 feet away today and read everything...

Had to sit through the opening cutscenes twice last night because of a bug with the PS4 game that disrupts loading.

Anyway, the moment the game gave me control, the very first thing that I said was, "holy shit I can't see a damn thing on that screen." Subtitles are manageable but the UI needs some tweaking.

Having the same problem using a 42" TV. I often have to get physically closer to the screen in order to manage the inventory, read contracts on boards, etc.

I will try the zoom trick posted earlier. I wish there was an option to actually scale the text size.

Glad I'm not the only one. Shit is hard to read and my vision isn't the greatest which makes it even harder. This is 6ft away from a 50 inch.

Sorry for low resolution pictures as they don't do justice to the situation but you get the idea. Saving screenshots on Twitter.

I can't see clearly what items do (bottom left).

Can't read what the in-game card game is suppose to do either.

I'm sure it's good for some people, but I'm playing on a 60 inch sitting 8 feet away and I'm having trouble. Definitely taking me out of the experience.

I can read everything on the bottom left 12+' away from my 46" Aquos. Tested it in the first shop where
you're asking about Yennefer.

It looks nothing like those compressed images to me.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
It is one of the worst offenders I've ever seen. Playing on a 42" sitting 6 feet back, and I can't read half of the text.

I really hope there is a fix.

Yeah. I've been having great difficulty with this. Granted, I sit on the far end of the limit for my television (about 10 feet from a 65"), but nonetheless, this is a serious damper to enjoyment of the finer details of the game. Most of my other games are fine, but I have to get up and get closer to the TV to read most text, especially for the low contrast inventory sections.

Also, as others have already noted, it seems very likely that they did not do any sort of "real world" testing of playing the game from couch seating. However, I find it hard to believe that there was not one single person, among the over 200 people who worked on the game, that realized this was a potential issue. It's too bad that they weren't able to give this fix a higher priority.

Now, even if it is addressed, either we play the compromised version of the game, or we wait for the eventual patch and put aside a game we're eager to play.

Add me to the list, 60" TV here, playing on PS4. I'm not saying it's impossible to read, it's just very unpleasant and I have to change position on my couch every time I read something from the inventory. They made the perfect game with this bullshit problem, I can't believe it.

This is my main problem. Picking plants and reading what I have picked. It's so friggin' tiny!

Never have this problem on any games but Witcher is causing me to eye strain.

I really hope they fix this in the next patch. I have perfect vision and I'm like 6 feet away from my TV and this is giving me headaches straining to read it.

Would adding an option for larger text size start giving headaches to the people who can read just fine now? Didn't think so.

Would a larger text size be hard to implement, coders?

QA doesn't test for probably 90% of end use cases? That seems smart...
Most QA seems to be done with monitors so that the testers can spot bugs easier, so developers with in house QA probably skimp on that to cram in as many testers as possible.

I had a slight issue with it last night, but it also could be because my eyes were tired already. I have a 55" TV and I sit about sixish feet from it. My eyesight isn't tops anymore but it's still very good.

I haven't noticed any problems when using my Hubble space telescope to read it.

seriously though, fix it.

I'm playing on a 50" sitting less than 4 ft away... this is terrible. I hope they patch this because I seriously may quit playing
