Do we expect Splatoon to be the next major Nintendo I.P.?

The joy people get from proving other people wrong that don't really care about a topic and just throw out a quick opinion is weird to me.
Let's look upon your quote.
Game won't break 500k worldwide.
That's a bit hard to believe given how much Nintendo is advertising the game. Splatoon received more marketing than both Bayonetta 2 & The Wonderful 101 combined.

Yes, let's look upon my post which was three weeks ago. Before the Direct. Before the marketing. Before the Testfire.

Even if I still stood by that number, it was a 5 second post that I put maybe 10 seconds of thought in, like a lot of other people who posted their predictions. The "man they're gonna eat so much crow, look how wrong they are, we're so right!" stance is super bizarre.

That's a fucking awful wall of "shame". I don't see a single malicious post in there, it's a bunch of valid opinions on a vague, speculative topic. Anything to make yourself feel better I guess.

Major marketing push means the game should do decently, being on the Wii U puts a cap on exactly how well it can do. I'm pretty impressed by how hard Nintendo is pushing it!

I wish there was a proper demo though. I'm entirely unsure if I'll enjoy the game or not. Some people have compared it to Gears which really didn't do it for me, but I do love me some shooters (generally prefer FPS though). Yeah... I just don't know.

There are people saying the game will bomb like The Wonderful 101 and you are categorizing those opinions as "valid"???

A good chunk of those quotes implied that Splatoon will go the way of The Wonderful 101, which pretty much translates to "Splatoon will bomb hard". Not exactly valid given the circumstances.

The Amiibos were a thing at the time of this thread's creation, & Nintendo doesn't give Amiibos to franchises they think will bomb.

Not every wall of shame is the Bayonetta 2 one, ie "malicious". This wall is pretty much just a longer version of the Guardians one.

Nintendo will slap Amiibo on anything and everything. Have they released a retail game since Amiibo's conception that doesn't have Amiibo support? Every game will have Amiibo support until Amiibos aren't a thing anymore.

  • Majora's Mask 3D
  • Code Name: STEAM (it only supported Fire Emblem Amiibos, it didn't get its own line involving the main characters of the game)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (It only used the pre-existing Shulk Amiibo from the Smash wave. It didn't get Amiibos for the likes of Reyn, Dunban, & Riki....as much as I'd buy them all).
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X
Those are off the top of my head.

Slightly off topic, but do we know if the "Global Testfire"-Discount will also be in Europe? And if so when will it go live?

Edit:
And why isn't there an OT yet?

Games with exclusive figurines? There's exactly two : Smash Bros. and Mario Party.

That Splatoon has exclusive Amiiboo figurines is major.

Between this and the 500k world wide thing, you seem to just really like to give your opinion on things you are ignorant about.
Not that it matters really, it's all just videogames.

Personally I expect 500k~1million. If I were a betting man I would say under a million.
I know Nintendo is putting a lot of effort in marketing this game, but I'm just not sure how well that will translate into sales, and I have no idea how the game will be received once it comes out.
I don't think it will be the 'next major Nintendo IP', unless something like Pikmin is considered a major IP.

I've only heard about the discount being in Europe. I played the first test fire and didn't see any discount when trying to preorder (I'm in the US).

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own

Well miyamoto basically confirmed there will be a pikmin 4 for instance.

For the UK having an apparent huge marketing push for this game I've still yet to see anything relating to the game here. Was the whole budget splunkef on the Mad Max spot?

I checked the eshop yesterday and the discount appears in a banner in the main page (you may have to scroll down a bit) but you can´t order the game yet.

Xenoblade X has no compatible amiibos either, altho maybe there is some small thing maybe not worth mentioning with the shulk amiibo.

yeah, i always thought that we could maybe make the MC look like Shulk just by tapping the Amiibo instead of set everything by ourselves

Put me on the wall of shame as a nonbeliever.

What happens when we get proven right though? Are you making a wall of shame for all the hopeful posters as well?

Given how well Splatoon is doing with pre-orders, I doubt that'll be the case. Plus a good chunk of the doubters pegged this to bomb like The Wonderful 101 did (;_;), which is pretty much impossible at this point.

And like I said numerous times, Nintendo doesn't give franchises its own line of Amiibos if they think said franchise won't do well.

New rules, OTs go up when the game launches, not before. :

Oh really? I must have missed that.

So basically, Monolith should be pissed off?
Kind of, but I think Nintendo giving Splatoon its own set of Amiibos is more telling of how much faith they have in that than it is Xenoblade X not having Amiibos equating to Nintendo not having faith in that game. Nintendo believes that Splatoon will hit a wider market (but likely with realistic expectations given the Wii U's instal base), while Xenoblade X will likely be a cult hit with critical acclaim like the first game was.

I've seen constant adverts on Nick Jnr for it pretty much for the last few weeks

A huge marketing push for the Wii U in the UK these days doesn't seem to amount to much.
I've caught one ad in the UK so far.. which was on Sky One during Modern Family (there are probably more on kids channels but I'm not expecting much on the bigger channels).

The fact that you felt it was necessary to make a pre-release 'wall of shame' is even sadder than most of the posts in there.
The OP asks for an opinion, why is it necessary to have Nintendo fans circling the wagons around the negative ones.

What's the point? Naming and shaming everyone who thinks Splatoon won't have major impact? Before the actual game even releases?
Read the posts in there, most of them aren't inflammatory at all, just tempered expectations. Quite warranted ones at that.

Huh.

My kids are 7 and 5 and Cartoon Network / Disney / Nick etc are on constantly, I haven't seen a single ad ( in contrast MK8 was on like every single ad break)

Maybe just missed them.

It's one thing to have a feeling that it won't do that well (wich by now is starting to be unreasonable too)

It's another thing to truly believe that this Game will Bomb on a Level similar to TW101, wich recieved next to no support at all.

Wich is the Wall of Shame exists, you can see there that a lot of people are doing the later one.

If you distilled the list down to the posts that actually say this, you'd have no list to speak of.

Not the ones saying it'll bomb like Wonderful 101. It could underdeliver (and maybe will), but comparing with Wonderful 101 is silly. It's like saying at the beginning of this generation Wii U not only will be distant third, but sell under 100000 units, it's just silly.

Put me on the non-believer list too, Neoxon. Just know that the Omega Crow is waiting for you if when it bombs.

I've actually seen more ads for Splatoon on Adult Swim than I have Cartoon Network, which is kinda funny considering the the common defense for those terrible ads was that they're suppose to be targeted to little kids.

Did you go trough that List yourself?

I counted 16 Posts in there wich said that it will sell around TW101 Levels, or will bomb for sure.

The updated list is on this very page (100p.p), so just scroll up, and count for yourself wich post mention TW101 Level of sales or directly decided that it will undoubtley bomb. Wich is, to come back to the original point, is quite different than to have a feeling that it won't do well, or being unsure on how well this Concept will resonate will with the genral public

Haha fuck me I just noticed I'm quoted on that sad wall of shame.

Bro, if *any* game not named Mario***** sells well on WiiU ***In the UK*** I'll eat whatever the hell you want and video it for you. Looking back to last year, Smash couldn't even sell enough to break the top 10 here and quickly dropped off the top 40

I'm sure WW sales will be more than acceptable for Nintendo.

There's been pretty much constant splatoon ads on nicktoons (my little boy's been watching the spongebob marathons all week) as well as quite a few ads for the mk8 dlc

To answer the question of the title - it already is.

We saw a Splatoon advert in the cinema before Mad Max, which was a big deal considering there were never any Mario Kart or Smash adverts and I'm in the UK.
