I don't understand the crossgen hate. I mean the graphics aren't so hot anyway and we have no information about the game. Why are we happy that some people will not be able to play this game?

It's not so much about graphics, it's about RAM. Being able to instantly fast travel across the map in Witcher 3 and having no loading to enter cities or dungeons has warmed people to the idea of it being next gen only.

Absolutely. I almost wish most hardcore gamers took a course in 3D development or game design to understand the kind of work that goes behind the scenes. You can already tell there's a lot of love in the screenshot, and as Brad Bird described animating, "it may all look spontaneous and natural, but every detail was carefully crafted by hand." And no doubt the game is going to be as exciting as the last entries.

I worked for a AAA studio, I know what a long task game development is. Games can still turn out shit or be disliked for a multitude of reasons.

Finally......

Finally I can rest and not wait any longer....

Fallout 3 was fun, but still fell into the terrible story and motivations. I always end up self flagellation with side quests until im so powerful the game is even more boring than when it was at the start. I liked the way ME1 did gun usage with hit percentages better.

I can still hope it turns out okay/.

I'm guessing that MS has some sort of marketing deal and/or timed DLC on this one, as the XB1 version is sitting in the front of the set. Am I reading too much into the placement of the various boxes?

Wooo can't wait for the reveal :D

Are people really going to complain about graphics already? -.-

It's Fallout it isn't going to be the best looking bleeding edge game but it is going to be no slouch either. I don't expect them to be using the nextgen graphics features that people have come accustom too such as material based shaders.

I've been waiting for this announcement for 3 years. So fucking hyped.

Also, Gaf gonna Gaf on over analyzing leaked images.

I call it as I see it.

You're being purposely hyperbolic despite having seen very little. Just wait and actually see what it looks like rather than 'calling it' as you see it.. AKA being hyperbolic and really not aiding discussion.

If it looks like this when we've got the trailer then fair enough, but please God just wait.

Because last-gen had its time and people want devs to finally start focusing fully on the consoles they paid hundreds for over a year and a half ago. Smarter AI, more complex and realistic physics, complexity and detail of environments and characters, size of environments, NPC amount, lighting, loading screens...all of these things can benefit from not catering to last-gen hardware.

I'm glad this game isn't cross-gen. Move on or miss out.

Why the long case?
Not sure what's worse: People being graphics whores and claiming the game looks like shit when we don't even have a release date for it and it's the first we've even heard about it's existence, or the same people flipping their shit months down the line when they realize what they were shown about a game so far looks nothing like the near finished project.

If people wonder why pubs/devs doctor footage shown early of a game so the finished product looks worse than it used to, they should just like this thread, smh... :\

On a more positive note, OMG FALLOUT 4 NEED.

None of the devs give a shit about what people are talking about on Gaf in the first few hours.

The only thing they are paying attention to are Twitter and Facebook.

Especially in a game like this, having to accommodate last-gen consoles holds you back in more ways than just graphically.

You can't be serious.

Go to the strip in New Vegas, walk down it, then in some buildings.

Then play some Witcher Wild Hunt in Novigrad.

Notice a difference?

Fallout and The Elder Scrolls are the 2 franchises that have the MOST to gain from being current gen only.

I'm dead serious. We have no info about the game. Your idea that the game has now changed in scope is unfounded. GTA 5 wasn't really a lesser game because it was on PS3/360 either, its scope was pretty big in comparison to NV. NV came out 5 years ago.

Honestly if that image posted on the site is in-engine, it's better than what I expected. I care more about everything else first before the graphics.

Because it's the only thing people are talking about now, instead of one of the things that people will talk about at the conference.
They're starting off E3, revealing it there would have made all other news obsolete before they came.

Oh well, there are people at Bethesda smarter than me. I just want a few reveals and surprises left for E3!

The dog bowl, the strewn tools on the floor, the wind chime, the bottles of whiskey and the cans of paint, the messy bed, and even the cloth covering the gatling gun. It's tremendously detailed and feels lived in.

I was super impressed with the level of detail in Dying Light's interiors and such; it held a lot of "history." I was even impressed with GTA V's detail and unique assets that littered the game world. Bethesda's own Skyrim took extreme care to invite players into that world; where homes were complete with food, forks, clothes and books.

Fallout 4 may just be the best realized post-apocalyptic game to date.

I think I'll go ahead and boot up Fallout 3 again before I decide if I can be bothered to engage in the inevitable fallout (ah hahhh) over the visuals.

Excited either way, but it really is a shame that they've chosen such a shitty box art. Just get an image of some dude and a dog standing in the middle of nowhere and zoom that shit the fuck out. Easy.

At least it has shadows this time guys.

Still... you can see that this is an engine continuation in a lot of respects.. and not something with a new foundation (and if they did make a new renderer and streaming system from scratch, then I would be impressed).

I hope it does not get in the way of gameplay system (lol) or ambitions.

lol.
It's posts like these that make me come back to NeoGAF all the time.

Why? Was there something inherently amusing about it?

It's just my personal feeling about the announcement. I honestly feel disappointed that I can't be hyped like everybody else, I don't like not liking games/developers, but I can't change my feelings about this.

If it really was amusing, then glad I gave you the laugh.

Could be, but might as well be just what the designer put there. Or alphabetical or whatever.

I mean, with what we've seen with the GTA V release on PC, it kinda was a lesser game because it was on the PS3/360 tho.

Hopefully the screenshot(s) we have indicate this game won't have the ugly grey brown and yellow filter that the last game had. Post apocalyptic does not mean everything needs to be brown and grey. In fact I think creates opportunities for just the opposite as nature takes back over.
