Now that the dust has (a bit) settled, I think back again with this announcement. This was a CG trailer, the development supposedly?) started a few months ago (might not be true) and they're aiming 20th anniversary release. That's ambitious, and we know SE had other ambitious project lining up. Lots of ways to screw this up but let's hope they deliver.

So this being a full remake, are we getting turn-based combat or action?

Hopefully it is turn-based. The World of Final Fantasy game was turn based though.

Re-imagining? All that I wanted. We can still play the original on PC/PS platforms, give us a new battle system please. Not that I hate the original but as I stated, the original version is still there.

Thanks Kagari for all the answers to these questions, well beyond the call of duty.

I was 50% sure when I saw the green wisps that we were about to see FF7.

I was 100% sure when I saw the playground.

I'm surprised it is so early if it was known about a year ago but teams do tend to move slow. This looks like an absolutely monstrous project and the CGI was absolutely incredible. A+.

Just my feedback, fwiw.

Jesus Christ, this is going to be one hell of a console generation.

I haven't felt this excited about videogames since I was a kid.

Y'all are the best, man.

Fuck it, I'm not going to sit hoping that maybe one day it'll come to the Xbox, I'm just going to start saving for a ps4 anyway, they pushed me over the edge with horizon, last guardian, this, and shemnue anyway.

During the trailer I was like
"no, don't even think it is FFVII, you know it isn't real. You know it's not Fin----- HOLY SHIT"

Same. At the very least I though "Oh, the way they are talking it's a sequel, like a non movie sequel" And then Barrett, then Classic Cloud, Then logo, Then REMAKE

;_;

There isn't a single game in the history of video games that requires a graphical remake more than FFVII.

This one actually had technical issues that would make it benefit from a remake a lot more. But, alas, no one but me wants it. :p

Honestly no game "requires" better graphics. I play older games with worse graphics than FF7 all the time.

I do hope they only remake the graphics and don't alter the rest. But somehow, I doubt that's what's going to happen.

So is VI no longer an important game?

Real talk: despite its sprite style being used for a lot of spinoffs, the Japanese did not like VI on the whole that much. They did love the shit out of VII, but VI was a bit of a dud and there's not really a clamor for any kind of remake. (It doesn't help that Kefka in Japanese is a much weaker character than in English. Glory to Woosley)

So, no, it's going to get passed over for major remaking. It pisses me off to no end, but them's the facts.

I think it should be in the OP that CC2 is the suspected developer of this title. People keep doubting cause they think everything in SE in house. There's no way they could do everything when their hands are tied up with KH3 and FF15 in the first production department

They will. Regardless of how you feel about it, Crisis core is a huge part of the series, its a prequel and thus will have major impact on the story.

Personally i loved the story of Crisis core and compilation , so a remake based on those is right up my alley.

CC2 supposedly handling a majority of the work just makes it better. If anyone knows how to make a huge ass game in record time with glorious cinematic elements, its CC2.
CC was more emotionally impactful than FFVII, I feel. Zack went against the odds and lost, but never lost sight of what/who he was fighting for. So good, even if the materia system was easy as hell to exploit.

If nothing else, I think it's very safe to say they'll want to haul ass and hit the 2017 date. With Final Fantasy generally having been very strong in this generation/the last few years so far (especially counting Bravely Default), and with the 25th anniversary back in 2012 having been so bleak because everything looked so dark back then, they'll want to come out fucking swinging for the 30th. And I think it's clear they're setting that up even now.

We got Dissidia and the DS remake of IV out of the 20th. They're going to want the 30th to be even stronger than that.

It's coming in 2017. Book it.

They couldn't even get FFXHD ready in time for its 10th anniversary. 2017 is totally not happening.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
I think one should expect KH3 at D23 Expo in November, not before, is my gut feeling.

So AAA content pipeline from SE Japan seems to be as follows:

- FFXV 2016
- KH3 2017
- FFVII 2018 (production just started as per SE press release)

I'm excited for FFVII, even much more than FFXV if that's hard to believe, nostalgia is a powerful tool.

Kagari, you think SE might be planning a release pipeline surrounding FFVII that year as they have previously (FFVII: Advent Children, Compilation, Crisis Core), or too early to tell?

Yup.

A Variation on the game's themes and expansions of others could be incredibly interesting.

The game has to push people's expectations imo.It would be very interesting if Aeris' story is executed differently with a new approach.

Japan having crap taste is nothing new, but always rage inducing.
