Okay, outside of the white bit, which is valid, and an issue in just about all media at this point, one which hopefully will be addressed going forward. What sort of body type and age bracket are you expecting from action heroes?

I think agre discrimination is pretty bad in gaming. Especially AAA one. Heck, one of the few positive examples we had (Sam Fisher) got magically deaged by like two decades. But gaming tends to be behind on things like that. The current trend of casting old as hell dudes in action movies will eventually trickle to gaming. For now at least we have Geralt :)

You and anyone who thinks the character is ugly are nuts.

I said kinda and just compare her to the other characters in this thread. She's definitely not a conventional beauty that you could put on a model runway or whatever.
I did not mean that as a negative, I was surprised as usually a trait of female characters is being sexy, doll-like etc.

I disagree, quality of writing absolutely plays a role into raising standards. If one area of writing improves it opens the doors for another to improve, and so on.
I'm still not sure what that really has to do with equality. Writing has to improve in general

I guess I can see what they mean if, by "badly written" they mean those characters just end up being tired cliché sexist tropes. That would impede the progress. But, I don't think that's likely to be the case for the ladies posted in the OP.
Yeah, that's what I meant with "abhorrently written" in my post before that. In that case I'd obviously understand.

came to the thread looking for a comparison of female characters from this year to past years

only found OP has a picture of a few characters from this year, and nothing from years past (as the title suggested). Pretty epic post
The thread from Nirolak from half a year ago is probably a good comparison.

Most notable is that the characters are actually the protagonist this year.

Thoguht analysing this with a year by year basis probably isn't that enlightening given the long development time of those games.

Aloy won, just few minutes and her design and personality is clear, and it's the most interesting IP in the whole show.

Isaac Clarke is in his late 40s-early 50s if I remember correctly.

I guess if gamergate did one good thing, it was that it made companies far more aware of the sexism in gaming. Its good to see a growing trend of more women headlining games.

Hope this continues behind the scenes too, with more women taking senior positions in development, publishing and marketing.

What about all the other "isms"? It's not just women who are underrepresented right.

Can't wait for the wave of elderly, half black half Chinese, slightly overweight body type, male pattern baldness, transgendered, disabled protagonists. All with average sized penises, because if it's not small or average it's sexist and unnatural.

In what world is this girl not only not sexy, but stocky?

Having more than 0% body fat on her face doesn't turn her into some grounded, homely everyone's girl. Jesus.

EDIT: I just went back and read your original post and you called her ugly? Come on, now.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
My favorite part of this is that they're finally reasonably dressed for what they're doing, as opposed to what happened in the past.

Horizon's protagonist in 2010:

"Welp, about to go hunting. Let me put on this lingerie and I'll be right with you!"

Morrigan Stark

And here comes the thread shitting. Thanks bro

They all white though

Except Faith, whose race is apparently up for debate around here

Edit: Reading past the OP, there's a lot more diversity than I thought this year. Good stuff.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
first their subreddit gets banned, then E3 kills it with a strong female presence

sorry goobergate!

I want prequel novels like yesterday

and a brandon graham comic

I've never seen anyone this angry at the subjective opinions of sexiness in an imaginary video game character.

Holly Tanaka and Olympia Vale from Fire Team Osiris in Halo 5 as well as Kelly and Linda from Blue team.

Half the playable Spartans are women.

Why can't everyone just be happy that we saw some cool ladies in cool games? Why try to find something negative in everything?

It's not lingerie, it's armor! It's totally explained by game lore so it's not sexist.

Different tastes and all but my main point is that neither her facial features nor the way she's presented is meant to represent a dream babe character to ogle on. I also like Faith, Quiet and Lara as strong female characters but there is a clear difference in the level of how attractive they are or should look (on a sexual level).

If you don't see this then we can just agree to disagree.

In what way is Faith oversexualized?

Faith is a dream babe character? Interesting.
