Since Sony can get away with gaining massive hype on 2017 games, Nintendo will join the party
Wait...at least Sony has big 3rd party titles coming in 2015. Don't act like they don't.

Its possible that Retro is working on it lol.
...when the NX is released
I find the dev talk stuff fascinating. Am I the only one?
More like next week with a makeup Direct. Take back Metroid Ball, AC Party and SF Zero. Their goodwill was a hundred times better before today. You better bring it in 2016 Iwata
Emergency direct inbound
I don't think it was like that at all last year.
But yeah, it's hard to tide over a D.O.A. console for 4 years.
Nah, not really. It was bad, but 2012 was worse, and 2008 was a level of disaster that is almost entirely unreachable.
Next year will pretty obviously be all in on the NX.
This was a bit more barren than I thought it would be, but I'm guessing they delayed a few projects to NX that would have otherwise filled in the rest of the year until it came out.
It makes sense too, because why waste more output on two EOL platforms.
Overall I didn't find it very upsetting since I was expecting things to be winding down.
So, I missed the event. What happened?
It's obvious they're putting everything in to NX and it shows, so the argument about Nintendo being in transition carries a some weight.
But at the same time, Sony and Microsoft have been in "transition" years as well, and both of them have never, ever, ever had a conference as dreadful as Nintendo's was today. Nintendo had nothing.
The new 3DS Zelda seems built nigh entirely with A Link Between Worlds assets so I imagine it's a pretty small investment that lets them experiment in cool ways.Pretty much. I'm kinda surprised they're pumping out another 3DS Zelda game though and there was no 3DS localisations in there.
they will win everybodys hearts back next year with a new console and more zelda
Every Nintendo fan on Sunday..
They sure didn't harbor dat goodwill
So, I missed the event. What happened?
I'm not sure if this Digital Event speaks to them transitioning away from a dead Wii U and aging 3DS or if it's a much larger paradigm shift toward cutting back the large scale games in general (even more than they already have been) and shifting almost completely to these cheaper, smaller side-story experiences that are more in line with a shift to mobile-like projects.
Couldn't agree more. So many disgusting posts of seething anger and rage. You'd think there were 8 year olds in the forums.I'm more upset at people's piss-poor reactions than Nintendo's lackluster event. I'm sorry Iwata
the disappointment should have been anticipated more strongly:
i see a lot of people were blindsided by what happened. here's where your expectations should have been going into this:
-they said no zelda wii u at e3
-they said no nx at e3
-they said no mobile at e3 (or qol for that matter)
-they're not going to reveal stuff in late 2016 or late 2017 like everyone else is (except maybe smt x fe), because that's when nx is coming out.
-they had already made somewhat big announcements in star fox, fire emblem if, and smt x fe in the leadup to this year's e3 showing. the amount of surprises left afterward were bound to be minimal.
-blast ball used the metroid prime hud so it is obviously part of metroid prime somehow (seems everyone got this)
so basically they were going to focus on early 2016 and late 2015, which is everything for this fiscal year or whatever they plan to have before next e3. i'm looking forward to the zelda and paper mario games we knew nothing about going into this, and i'm excited to try star fox later this year. it's actually a nice lineup for 2015 when everything's been moved to next year, but the show itself doesn't instill the same excitement as some of the other conferences like announcing backwards compatibility or shenmue iii.

I honestly prefer those cleanly edited dev stories to a bunch of nervous devs trying to relay a message to millions of people live on a crowded stage. It's so much more natural to me and presents the game and the people behind them waaaay better.it could have easily been featured on the treehouse stuff as an intro to the extended gameplay there.
in the direct it felt like padding because they had nothing

Exactly how I felt about their Wii U showing. They're doing admirable with stuff like Yoshi, Star Fox and Mario Tennis considering it's a platform with limited appeal.Next year will pretty obviously be all in on the NX.

They announced literally two Wii U games. TWO. Animal Crossing Party and Mario Tennis HD. Keep in mind that this console also has zero third party support. Overall, an unmitigated disaster.
I'm guessing Zelda is going to look different from what we saw before when its shown off next year.Even if Zelda is only for NX (it's probably for both Wii U and NX), they should have just showed a fucking 30 second trailer for the game. They had NOTHING to replace the gaping hole left by Zelda's absence.
The new 3DS Zelda seems built nigh entirely with A Link Between Worlds assets so I imagine it's a pretty small investment that lets them experiment in cool ways.
I know this is an unpopular opinion....
But I don't think it was as much of a disaster as everyone is saying.
There's some awesome games coming out in the next 6-9 months for Wii U and 3DS.
All this while obviously prepping 2 new platforms.
They could have blown everyone's minds and announced stuff that will be out for NX in 2017 or whatever, but stuck to what is realistically being released soon. It's not like NX is not getting Zelda, Mario, etc. how much better would the conference really have been if they said "new metroid in 3 years" and showed a logo and nothing else?
Just saying... It wasn't an amazing conference but it wasn't terrible imo.
