Fire Emblem If is now Fire Emblem Fates, two versions confirmed for NA, 2016 release

Not buying both. This games are too expensive here with taxes and stuff, and retailers will take advantage of that.
It might not be two versions now. The stream made it seem like only one.

We'll have to wait for more confirmation. (If we even get it until just before launch.)

Seriously, the 2016 release is just awful.
Once again, the DLC will be completely based on Japanese fans, despite Awakening doing as well or maybe even better in the US.

I wouldn't mind 2 versions as long as they deliver on their content promises and use the same strategy as japan. This means bring over both the LE cart and have the DLC discount option.

That being said, I much rather them do a single release. Most of what they said, especially the tweet from the official nintendo Twitter, made it sound like a single release. It's really annoying that they can't just commit to whatever path they're taking right now.

I mean the press release says two versions. Lady on stream said two games multiple times. I'm just going to go on the idea that it's separate and if it isn't oh well. I imagine places like GameStop are going to have it up for preorder by the end of the week so we might even find out that way.
You are assuming Gamestop has been given the official SKU and isn't just doing a placeholder page.

Placeholder pages and not announcing SKUs clearly cause problems. Bayonetta 2 in Europe is a fine example. NOE always said Bayonetta 1 only came with the special edition (known since E3 2014), but announced the RRP for the regular edition so many stores has incorrect listings based on how it is handled in America (as they said you would get Bayonetta 1 when you wouldn't and they not going to take a €10 loss per game...well in the case of Amazon they are in a special position of just being able to throw money at such problems and do exactly that) and it emerged after the Nintendo direct announced the special edition and the first print edition.

That's Camilla from the Nohr (Black Kingdom) version.

Thanks. Black version it is!

Which one? The redhead, or the purplehead
AKA Tits McGee
? Redhead is Hoshido, purplehead is Nohr.

I think we all know which character I was referring to.

*definitely better

That's what happens when you just have a much bigger population to sell to.

I don't care about DLC because they'll never make the DLC I want. I'll never get super hardcore challenge maps that make you use all the strategies you have in your repertoire. At this point, I've accepted the DLC isn't for me.

Leo/Leon confirmed best bro.

Xander is a downgrade compared to Marx.

Is anyone else weirded out by the 'still in development' comments?

The presenter probably can't really say a whole lot else about it, but isn't it due for release in a week in Japan?

lol.

I chuckled when she said that.

The version Audrey was playing was the still in development US release.
You could even see random code time to time.

You'd be surprised how much localization can break games. Even in modern times, a lot of Japanese games aren't programed in a way to accept English text well. XSEED has done some cool write-ups about that very topic. There's also the possibility they're playing on a debug build that has a ton of weird holes in it.

Really? Not sure how I missed that. I guess the US install base is made of more dedicated gamers and the Japanese side is fueled by Pokemon, Yokai Watch, etc.?

I saw the streaming and I will buy both games because it's all over Awekenings again but with more features and for god sake, I loved Awekening.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?

Ah, I thought I heard her say they'd switched back over to the Japanese release after the first set of technical issues, I must have misheard.

For sure localization can mess with a lot of stuff.

Yokai watch is insanely popular. It's being driven by that.

The more FE the better... I will buy both for sure if we get the discount Japan is getting. The only question is which of the 2 I will buy first.

Yeah, I knew that. Awakening was pre-Yokai Watch, though, was it not? At the time, wouldn't the US installed base have been significantly larger?

no?

2011 and 2012 LTDs for Japan

meanwhile US LTD was 7.7m at the end of 2012, apparently the first year was close though

Yokai Watch got big in 2014, when the 3DS was already declining

Just watched the Treehouse footage. Man, this game has that ridiculous Nintendo polish all over it.

The menus, the transitions, the music and sound effects. All of them are absolutely on point. Good to see some interactions between the Nohrian siblings. Leo is a lot nicer than he looks and everyone except for King Grumpyass really dote on Corrin.

2016 is so far away..

I didn't see anything about two versions in the EU direct. Anyone know if it's getting two versions here as well?

I understand the presser says two releases but it seems like they would have stated it elsewhere or shown box arts for NA versions.

And what if each version is the same length as Awakening?

Games are released using older engines all the time. Vice City and San Andreas?

If they wanted to gouge money, they would have just released it at a higher pricepoint like Atlus does for 3DS games and save themselves the manufacturing and distribution fees. If you're going to blame someone for being evil, at least make sure what you're blaming them for actually makes sense.

Doesn't matter if it's the same length. Should a 100 hour game be split into 10 parts if another game is 10 hours? Should a game with similar style, like Hexyz Force, have been split into 2?

A lot of time and resources go into fine-tuning and updating a game engine. These 2 games were made at the same time, and most likely share A LOT of resources. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the characters and how a story scenario plays out to be different.

So $60 + whatever the 3rd DLC will cost is better? Again, stop drinking the Nintendo Kool-aid. The point I'm making is that these 2 parts, though possible to play by themselves, were obviously meant to be part of a whole package, and Nintendo has split them up.

Sheesh, such cynicism.
Just look up at the Serene Forest and see that the game size is 3GB for each, with 1,2 or so is a shared content between them. Even if they don't split it, they'll need bigger cart or make it N3DS exclusive which in the end, is more of a money grab.

The cart in the LE has both side, no?

...does Takumi have a long range AoE bow attack?
It's the spot he was standing on. A bow artillery of sorts, probably usable by all bow wielders.

I think you only get a voucher or something to download the path you didn't choose through eShop.
Don't quote me on this though, not completely sure, but I think I saw it mentioned before.
Nah the SE comes with a special cart that has both main routes on the same cart. It was an incredibly limited print though.

Is this a series first? A male Pegasus knight!

We've known about Tsubaki for a while now.

Charlotte is also the first female fighter/berserker.

It comes with both routes, the voucher is for the third route, which won't be out at the release of the game.
