I'm amused the discussion on value and DLC was preceded by a nice, fawning recollection of the latest in Amiibo.

I don't play Smash Bros. - my collection of the Smash Amiibo is that I like the figures. I got the Splatoon Amiibo because I wanted the extra content/challenges.

That is too funny, I had almost the exact same thing happen in Witcher 3 with the drowners walking into that scene (as you posted in the show notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpOIc12kNMQ)

Yours is framed much better. Hilarious how they slowly amble towards where you guys are talking. But mine had the benefit of my horse ending up with his front legs in the water and back legs on the dock so he was nearly perpendicular to the ground.

Great stuff.

CJ, I hope you play some of Splatoon's ranked matches. I had a lot of fun in the regular mode, but ranked matches suck. Even if you work hard, and are the best on your team, if you don't win, you get nothing. And, it feels like such a waste of time as a result. I'm really surprised they give you nothing for your effort. It's also where the lack of voice chat is a hinderance because often my team is putzing around doing nothing productive. I've basically given up on this mode for now since I play with randoms.

So, no different than the ranked mode of other multiplayer online games?

I have played a few rounds of ranked, and lost twice/won once. To me they've separated the modes pretty completely - money you get in regular battles is tied to your XP. There's no XP given in ranked battles when you lose (IMO, that's fair - it's supposed to be a mode with higher stakes) so you get no money either and you lose 10(?) of your ranking points. And yes it's a team game so if your team loses it doesn't matter if you were the best or the other players didn't understand what was going on.

I think (hope?) things will shake out over the next week or so and people playing ranked will know what's going on with that gametype. I mean, even the worst player who loses and gets nothing will eventually leave that mode or try something else/figure it out, right? :) It's possible that it's too easy to get to experience level 10 and open up ranked before you really get a hang of the game, and that they should've made that more difficult to get to.

Since I am fine continuing at a C- rank it really doesn't bother me all that much. *shrug* You also can't matchmake friends in ranked so it *is* keeping everyone on a fairly level field and the potential to match with randoms that don't know what's going on. Maybe they should do a better job of explaining the differences in ranked the first few times you go in there?

Are ranked matches still only 3 minutes? I'm still a lowly level 4 or something.

no they're 5 minutes long. however, each team has a timer that will start ticking down when you are in control of a splat zone. if your timer reaches zero the match will end and your team will win in a knockout.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one this happened to. :) One of these days I'll search YouTube to figure out exactly what that quest actually was going to be, if anything...

Also, I'd listen to a marvel heroes podcast with Chris Baker and Anthony Giagos

I've been wanting to kick off a Marvel Heroes podcast since I started! It's proving to be quite the challenge given all of our packed schedules, especially now that we're streaming more -- but it's still something we want to do!

I played a little of Marvel Heroes, its miles better then Diablo 3. It feels much more like Diablo 2, which is all I ever wanted in D3, just a better looking D2 with more classes/items/etc.

More details soon. Only thing locked in is the recording time of 8pm EST on Monday and Tuesday. I don't think we will stream live unless we have everyone record their own audio. I am a much bigger fan of Skype's audio quality.

Man, I just started listening on my way to work this morning, and early on already some gems out of CJ.

"As if one terabyte is really all that much better than 500 GB."

... I don't think the new console is huge news, but I would say that a terabyte is twice as good as 500 GB.

"I don't think they'll release console versions of Vita games because they want to sweep the Vita under the rug."

Wait, what? I think doing that would be part of sweeping the Vita under the rug.

Also, I get the sense he doesn't understand how the Instant Game Collection works these days, as he seemed to imply Uncharted is still available as part of the IGC (it's been off the service for about a year, I believe).

Overall, yeah I think it's a good move - and one they probably should have done at the beginning but whatever. 500 GB, since games are mandatory installs now, is too small period. 1TB is better. Not great. Glad I upgraded to 2TB. :D

Yeah you've got me there.

Oops.

I'm late, but the ethan-cbake episode was great. Those guys always have good stories and senses of humor.

Kevin's episode was way better than his penultimate one, although I did raise an eyebrow when he lectured you guys about your negativity given his history of making sweeping negative statements. Maybe he was going through a rough patch (personal life was a two, professional life was a noine) a few months ago and now he's back on the upswing? In any case, much improved.

sad to hear everyone has given up on bloodborne, but I'm not surprised. It's difficult to enjoy and finish those games if you are playing several others concurrently.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

I recall a podcast filled with voices absolutely certain they would buy no amiibos, joking at the mere amusement of such a ridiculous concept.

Now they polish their collection on camera each week. What happened in the last few months?

Pretty sure the only time I was negative on that last show was when I was joking about people not liking Fast and Furious. And things are fantastic personally and professionally, making it harder to fit in the podcasts.

That's good to hear. I read in this thread that you were quitting/putting your podcast on indefinite hiatus. Now you're back with renewed vigor. That sounds to me like burnout, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Episode 449: There Can Be Only One

This week! It’s right before E3, so we talk about a few news bits that’ve leaked/been announced before the show. Like Dishonored 2, Hyrule Warriors 3DS, Oculus and Microsoft’s partnership, YouTube Gaming, the Ratchet & Clank movie game, more Amiibo and a bunch of other stuff. Oh and we watched the Nintendo World Championships and a good part of the livestream video is us reacting to it. But that’s been cut out of this audio. Join us, won’t you? And join us later this week for more episodes with E3 reactions with Kevin and Josh from Back in my Play.

The latest episode just goes to show how much I don't agree with pretty much anyone's opinion on this podcast except for Mike and occasionally Greg.

Not a criticism, but man we are on totally different wavelengths.
