First #FE (SMTxFE) live gameplay on Treehouse Stream

I would, she's too bubbly. And by real localization challenge I think they mean what they mentioned at the stream, the VAs on the japanese game also had to knew how to sing, so probably they are trying to find the same kind of people here.
nooooo let me dream! D:

I think they may not even bother dubbing it, since they bothered to translate the seiyuu names in yesterday's trailer. I'm sure it'll at least be dual audio, though.
Dual would be best

Lol @ Tiki's profile, definitely confirms the vocaloid association
First 'dark miku with an eye patch', now this, #Miku4Smash

It's not anymore directly accepted there than it is here. Even the Japanese realize how fucked up shit things like idol culture is.

I'm pretty sure this game will be a critique of idol culture. But yeah, the first two trailers were really really overt that I cringed a good amount.

While I do think japanese realize how fucked up it is, the west completely abhors it. Count me in as one of the people who is shocked that Nintendo is bringing it over.

Seeing Tiki's profile, it's definitely a commentary on the culture. Real and Virtual idols, I am amused.

There's nothing wrong with liking idol stuff, it's just it seems unnecessary (to me) for it to be applied to so many different things in which it was never present, and didn't seem to have the need for it to be present in too.

fair enough. I'm not a fan of idol stuff in particular, outside of really enjoying the Project Diva series (though not sure that's even the same thing). I don't like games that pander just for the sake of pandering, either. If i wanted to ogle anime ladies I could do that on the internet for free without spending $60. I have faith ATLUS that they can produce a worthwhile experience using these themes, though.

My initial criticism to many posters' negative reactions is more that they were coming off as though it would be better if this game just not exist, or that it was somehow poisoning the existing series. While Fire Emblem may not ever shake loose the waifu stuff that many equate with the great sales for Awakening, I'd put money on the next SMT game continuing the general darker tone of the series.

I understand and agree to a degree. Like I said before, if this game wasn't attached to the name of both of those series, my reaction to it would be completely different given that I would have had different expectations for it.

Not wanting the game to exist is a sentiment I can understand and I feel it comes back to what I just said. I think if it wasn't attributed to those two brands then a lot of people would not have a problem with it besides the in your face idol stuff. It's the fact that it's the idol stuff in series that didn't have any of that before. As for poisoning the series, I feel like Awakening is making FE head down a path I greatly dislike, since Awakening's success could be in part attributed to those themes and tones I can also understand people who are fans of the older game's style being put off by this new direction.

Thanks for the discussion. Out of curiosity, since you seem to be pretty invested in the Fire Emblem series, which game would you recommend to someone who has only played Awakening? Is there a readily available entry in the series that you think really defines it? I have access to WiiU/3DS when it comes to Nintendo platforms, so it would have to be an eShop game I guess. If there's one that is readily available on DS/GBA I guess that could work too.

Gameplay looked awesome.
The game is basically persona idol edition and im cool with that, shouldn't have called it fe x smt though.

Not too sure about the idol aspect of that either, but I must say that I was really impressed with the animation during the singing sequence when she awakens her Performa.

Did they say anything about character being tied to specific FE characters ? or can you mess around with them like with Personas (fusion etc ...)

Maiko is the president of the production company “Fault Entertainment” that recruits Mirage Masters. She is like a mother figure to the Mirage Masters. She’s a drinker, and has worked as a gravure idol in the past. Maiko is sharp and has quick wits, and cares about her production company comrades more than anyone.

This is amazing hahahahahaha

She does look the part, not being offensive here or anything.
I know, the thing is I actually wondered during the presentation if they were going to include or mention Gravure Idols since the games seems to take a lot form Idol culture in general...

I'm loving this game so far, it looks very fun tbh

I just watched IGN's demo and started laughing my ass off at the Jpop duet summon. The game is so over the top that i can't help but love it. I'm wondering how they are going to localize it though.

Combat looks good and appealing to me. As someone who has only really played P4G and FE:A it looks familiar as well.

Also Tsubasa is a dragoon/valkyrie so day 1.

This game is amazing. I don't think many people get that it's a parody of idol culture. It kind of reminds me of Strange Journey in the fact that it's ridiculously over-the-top.

The navigation and combat reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei IV. The game obviously isn't as "pure" SMT as IV was, but I'm glad the Devil Survivor team is continuing to innovate because Devil Survivor was excellent. The government conspiracy themes were hardcore 80s Megami Tensei wrapped up in a 2009 SRPG bundle.

Someone was noting that the UI is very likely designed by the same designer as SMTIV's.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Toma is Itsuki and Tsubasa’s classmate. He’s a Mirage Master of Fault Entertainment who loves “henshin” (transformation) heroes. He’s a little frivolous in his speech and actions, but he’s the type that puts action before thoughts. He’s always wishing that he could be a hero, and is currently aiming to get the lead role in a Tokusatsu program called “Masqueraider”.

Now THIS appeals to me. Now it makes sense why he has the cool bike.

Also, weird. Whenever you copy-and-paste text from that site it automatically inserts the read more part and the link...never seen that before.

Gameplay is looking way more interesting but still not enough to buy a Wii U.

I'm pretty impressed at the character building and the attention to detail honestly. From Tiki, to Maiko, to Toma. And even the little nod with naming the production company Fault Entertainment

So we have a Tokusatsu actor, a Vocaloid, an Idol, a Gravure Idol, a musician and an aspiring Hollywood actress. Looks good so far.

The more I hear about this the more excited I am! This looks crazy rad (especially the battle system!)

Does anyone have a link to the Splatoon Squid Sisters reference?

At what time in the video is this? I'm on mobile so the link with the time doesn't work, scrubbed through and couldn't find it.

I like the concept that they all pertain to a particular segment of the entertainment business. It could be a cool thing if it's not simply superficial, but goes a bit more in-depth with it.

It's not necessarily a reference to the Squid Sisters at all, but it's actually a general idol/j-pop duet performance, that the Squid Sisters also are influenced by. See anything else idol/j-pop related for a quick ref: AKB48, Morning Musume, Idolmaster, Love Live.

Ah! I heard they had the same names and the song was similar, dang! thanks though!

lol the Main Character doesn't even like Idol Stuff.

I see you Atlus...I see you

It'd be funny if this is something that the game was building towards (hinted at by being able to be an ass when the female character is excited about Kiria's performance). Like an SMT Law and Chaos alignment, where chaos would be the MC aligning himself with the enemy Mirages to destroy the entertainment industry.
