I'm kinda sad that at this rate, if they don't do anything, we probably will only reach a bit more than 4M and I really want all the stretch-goals done.

I don't understand why they haven't improved reward tiers and added PayPal. I want that ticker to go up! EDIT: But I'm sure that they are on it and it can't be done in just 2 days.

Still a long time to go and Kickstarters always get boosts in the final days.

I'd like to see a little more direction from the kickstarter in regards to taking advantage of social media... but then again, to some extent the Shenmue fanbase shouldn't need their hand held on this. Shenmue 3 is real. You know what to do...
I wonder how deep this game will be can we expect a yakuza style game with a lot of depth with surroundings and combat, or will it be bare-bones to an extent
Gonna depend on the funding #s.

I expect if we can get it over $5m by the end, we should end up with something pretty legit.

I pre-ordered the first Shenmue game when I was back in high school. Now I get to fund Shenmue 3 fourteen years later. Feels good man.

Do you other fans get the sense that Yu Suzuki wanted to do this more than anything? The kickstarter mentions Ryan Payton is the one who pushed Yu into getting this kickstarter to be a thing... I've never got the sense he was dying to do it, but always seemed joyous and "sure i'll do it" about it. Could be a cultural thing, or Yu is very introverted, but just my impression.

Much obliged. This is hilarious and awesome.

The timing of Shenmue barely a few minutes after FF7 was truly insane and genius. Amazing part to be of and hilarious. We were all unprepared. TLG, Final Fantasy, and Shenmue just exploded the thread to like a 100 posts a minute, we all went nuts, I was trying to refresh like crazy.

It still feels weird talking about Shenmue 3 like it's an actual thing. Dreams do come true.

So are we to pester Sony & Sega now for HD ports of Shenmue 1 & 2 on PS4 before the release of 3? would be nice just for convenience.

Tower of Babel Dreamcast tech demo (emulated and no sound).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4fAbTrhvto

I think became the basis for the Kowloon tower ?

I think it is

It is pretty well-understood that the Tower Of Babel demo was the basis for Kowloon / Kowloon Tower from the Shenmue beta footage (which was Shenmue 1+2) and although modified, very much present in the released Shenmue 2 game. Both the Tower Of Babel demo and Kowloon in Shenmue beta / Shenmue 2, were presented in the same way, with sweeping camera angles.

IDK how realiable the source is tho

No way. He has always wanted to do it and I don't think pushed is the right word. He was by no means forced. He was convinced. I think after 14 years of nobody wanting to fund the game it made him apprehensive for sure, exhausted and if anything shameful that he couldn't give the fans what they wanted or make the game he wanted to make. Kickstarter is an alien way of getting funding to Yu, and asking his fans for money isn't something he has experience in. I mean, it kind of feels like a last resort because it kind of is. I'm sure he'd rather have the big publisher funding but that wasn't going to happen and it's kind of now or never. I'm sure he realised that and is happy to see the game finally being put in to production.

Haha, yep. The great part was that Sony and SE had already set-up the disappoint with World of Final Fantasy, it really felt like a timed troll all over again, especially if you go through the thread there was a giant "WTF is this?!" reaction with World of Final Fantasy before the second nuke that was FF7 released, they totally destroyed everyone's guard from the beginning.

I may be mistaken but my memory of Yu Suzuki all the way back to his days making arcade games like after burner and outrun, is that he's just an honest soft spoken guy. Culture may also have a hand in it as well. This is definitely his baby but he may have accepted it wouldn't ever be taken seriously but a publisher again hence his reserved appearance. Hopefully we'll get more of his side story later either in a making of documentary or a kickstarter interview.

Sega is the one to pester.

And yes, there should absolutely be a concerted campaign to get Sega to release ports on PC/PS4/Xbone (why not?). The kickstarter is proof enough to justify the expense, one would hope!

Yeah I by no means believe he's not deeply passionate about it, I just find it interesting. And his concern it wouldn't stand out next to FFVII and Guardian seems really human to me.

Listening to older interview, he talks a little bit about chapters, and reconstructing Shenmue a bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bj8POLfIyM

Supposedly "9 chapters left" but translation seems weird.

It seems my "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" could've been pretty much the first comment regarding the Shenmue announcement. :) Only a second earlier people were still talking about FF7/indies/the possibility of Shenmue 3... And then... boom, another megaton. It's still hard to believe that actually happened...

I don't want to back to the old dimension anymore.

I don't know if this has been answered already, but are we likely to get a virtual Sega arcade to mess around in Shenmue 3? How will these IPs be handled, if at all, considering Sega still owns these?

I'd love to see an arcade perfect version of Power Drift in one of these virtual arcades...

unless english V.A appears as a stretch goal down the line, i don't see that happening for cost reasons.

that's fine though. i quite like the japanese voices, as endearing as the english dub is.

Hearing "cost reasons" scares the shit out of me. I want this to be the game Suzuki had always wanted to make, no compromises.

It's probably been answered but if I get the $175 pack with the printed artbook I get all before it like name in the credits and toy capsule etc?

The Japanese voice actors with English sub is the best approach, however, I can't ignore the fact that there are people out there that grew up with the English voices and love Shenmue for that, so I would definitely include English V.O as a stretch goal along with explanation.

Wouldn't it be easy to get even more funding by releasing a Shenmue 1+2 bundle on PSN soon? I don't think money is that much of an issue seeing how much goodwill they have. If Sony plays the hype machine right, this could potentially be a big success.

Neither do I really, makes it more authentic in a certain way.

But if they could somehow get the original actor for free if he was so cool like that...I wouldn't say no. :p

Stretch goals...would be great if there were one for releasing pc build\ more footage of Shenmue beta on the Saturn. Maybe even the prototype Yu spoke of last year.

And Lucky hit mobile game!

As soon as this was announced in was wondering if this is all going to be built from the ground up or if they'll be using any of Sega's engines/tool sets. In particular Yakuza 0's engine.

including this guy?

I hope the western version have that guy only. I have the Dreamcast Version of Shenmue 1 and 2, and here in Europe the game is in Japanese and i like the voices. The VA in English is horrible, if they add VA in english i hope thers an option to switch to Japanese or English.
