Suggestions, my friend? Im collating as much infoas possible so i can draft something together.

A Game Gear would be neat, with games you can buy/find. Gameboy would obviously be more time appropriate, but I doubt they could get the license.

Of course neither one was out yet in 1987, but depending on how strict they want to be with conforming to the year, I think it's close enough to take some creative license.

I guarantee you the the next batch of games will be Power Drift, GLOC and Virtual Racing. Suzuki won't be that time line specific. I think the game gear idea is fantastic but remember that only Yu Suzuki's games are featured.

I just cannot understand why they still haven't added more high-cost tiers. People want to up their pledges, but the Kickstarter isn't giving them any excuse to do so.

Is the arcade stretch goal separate or is it part of the mini games x5 goal?

Usually in game development,, a mini game would be something like,, for e.g. the arcade punch game that was in Shenmue 1. It won't be an actual Yu Suzuki arcade game. However, i can't be sure about that unless the team say something, and they should since our money is involved.

This needs to be stressed, the narrative on the Internet has become that this Kickstarter is just to gauge interest and after its finished Sony will step in and fund the project to its fullest.

But the Kickstarter is essential in getting the best Shenmue 3 possible and Sony is only providing "some" funding and marketing.

Exactly !! Not only that but I think this is getting overblown. What is Sony helping a project became Sony just using kickstarter while they could fund it themselves. Its untrue.

Shenmue 3 needs this kickstarter. They're helping, not footing the bill and people need to help too if they want to have the Shenmue game they always wanted.

Yep. It's early, but it's night and day between them and say 8-4. Fanbase might have to take this into their own hands and organize the campaign on their own...

Agreed, it is incumbent on us to make this Kickstarter as much of a success as we can, rather than relying on them to run a pro campaign like Bloodstained was.

The even worse thing is that I was originally hoping to get maybe 2-3 updates per month on the game as it begins to be developed. Now I am wondering if we will get 2-3 every 6 months.

Kickstarter Update Idea:

They lock down Corey Marshall to do English VA. Get him and the Japanese voice actor to record videos in which they thank the audience as Ryo, and declare that they will have revenge on Lan Di, before asking if we know any sailors and how to get to Wan Chai.

That's the kind of silliness that brings positivity into the fanbase and makes the backers happy.

but i also think maybe thats not the best idea if they want this game to reach a bigger audience? which would help ensure we get shenmue 4


edit: basically, there's a fine line between catering to us and making sure this does well with non-shenmue fans. i think it will be tough to straddle that line. and if they plan on wrapping up the entire story with 3, then fuck everyone else. make it for the fans haha. but i dont htink thats what theyre doing

Power Drift is a lock, the other 2 will never happen. They have to be emulated. Super Hang On would be a lock in for an additional game.

i think that's a very big assumption that really bad voice acting is part of the vision haha
and i think its absolutely dangerous to cater to the fans too much. it'll become too insular. let's be honest here, those 2 shenmue games didn't have THAT big of a fan base. its moderately sized, but extremely passionate.
they run the risk of having to wait 14 more years for shenmue 4 if this doesn't sell well enough to more people than just the og fans

Yeah, they should get new voice actors. Horrible voice acting needs to be left back in the late 90s/early 2000s. This is a product that will need mass market appeal when it is released and cheesy voice acting won't help matters.

Yeah, we need Corey Marshall! Every character sounded odd, so I blame the voice direction (and simply the gigantic number of characters/actors they were working with).

I just sent a message suggesting those stretch goals. I suggest everyone do the same. They may not pick the same goals, but it will at least show that we neeeeeeed more tiers.

It's still set in the '80s I imagine so it probably wouldn't make sense. I am kinda worried we could miss out on stuff like '80s Sega arcade games, I really hope it's all still in 3.

The sega toys in the original game had stuff from the 90's, so I'm not sure it really matters. Also there was a sega Saturn at Ryo's house.

That's what I'm thinking, and why I didn't put up more money. Bloodstained committed to the console physical from the start, so they got my full 60 bucks. Shenmue and Yooka didn't, but like MN09 I think it's safe to say they're big enough to eventually get there anyway.

Yeah, I hope they keep as much of the incredibly stiff voice acting as possible, actually. It's weird, but endearing. The teaser seems to indicate that the devs get that.

I'm fairly sure the English VO was directed by Suzuki, who speaks very little English. He was clearly happy with it because he re-released the game in Japan with English voices, inexplicably.

I wouldn't be upset to see the English dub improved or disappearing altogether. It's not something that adds to the charm for me, and it's the main reason I only play the games in Japanese now.

Still waiting on this. If they're not going to do it then can they at least explain explicitly why? Physical PC version is a thing and PS4 isn't, which leads me to believe Sony is involved somehow.

Kickstarter lets you pledge whatever amount you want yes. You can then manually select any reward cheaper than your pledged amount, but you could say give them the price of a small car and select no reward if you so wished. You can also change your reward later.

That voice was obviously a template, just as the section they showed. This was quickly put together in UE4 for the Kickstarter and did its job; considering how they bring back a lot of the old people, I wouldn't be surprised if they plan to bring Corey on board.

But yeah: who knows? I would support a petition that would do that.

I run an extremely popular blog on the tumblr platform. I'm planning to write an exhaustive piece about why Shenmue matters sometime in the next couple of days. I strongly encourage others in this thread to similarly tell their stories about Shenmue and share why this series is so great on whatever social media they use.
