Gamble req packs on competitive arena matches?!

Viewerships through the roof. More MT purchases.

Frankie, put me in the credits for H5 for this idea.
It would take about... one HCS match before players would start to get death threats because some kid lost his/her Req cards.

First time ive posted in a community thread on GAF. Think i might have to spend my halo time here instead of on the gaming side more often.
Questionable decision, friend. This place is toxic and unsafe. Ya have some people posting that their favorite Halo game is Halo 3, others posting about throwing their consoles in the closet or having it on craigslist, and just general shit flinging from our
#
butts.

Tread carefully, you never know what you're gonna get

Fresh coat of white paint on the Spartan Laser

I do like the white, but I am seeing it a lot. I suppose they are only showing a very small subset of the skins now. I do hope having the req system in place requires them to have a HUGE amount of content. I have never felt a Halo game has had enough customizable content. I hope with this system that changes.

As for Theater, this mode is currently only available for Multiplayer. Holmes didn’t flat out say that it wouldn’t be available for Campaign similar to Halo 4 but they simply didn’t want to confirm or deny anything at this time because they don’t know if it will be there at launch or not.
Would be sad if this is the third game they've released that doesn't have complete features at launch. Does MCC even have a proper file sharing system yet?

So, finally got to watch The Sprint. Good stuff, as ever. Thoughts:

Audio design continues to be an interesting field; do they just do stuff randomly? I mean, I imagine that eventually you get a sense of what'll sound like what, but it seems to be about making as many sounds as possible and picking the good bits. The light sensor was especially cool, in a synesthesia sort of way.

Better insight into how the REQ system works with the discussion of tier variants, and a few more questions. So, does each weapon have 9 tiers? 'Cause the Shotty apparently has a Tier 2 variant. Does that mean you can buy the base model as soon as you have the in-game currency for it, rather than having to wait until your team levels up?

The breakable wall sections are a fun addition.

I can see why they went with a more... straightforward section for the stage demo. Looks like a ton of work, in terms of both technical work and rehearsal. Were the other members of Osiris player controlled in the stage demo too?

The more I see and hear of Warzone, the more it excites me. It looks to be crazy awesome!

From what little I've seen, and what I'm hoping we can assume, this looks to also be the most customizable Halo game to date, which is fantastic.

Give me (limited) emblem placements, bring back clans and allow clan emblems on-Spartan, and introduce rank-emblems.

It'd be fantastic if you had control of the color and skin of each piece of armor, too.

Alas, I know I'm pipedreaming with all of this, though.

Quit penalty shouldn't be that much of an issue in H5 compared to MCC since there are multiple ways to punish players. If it's a ranked game, your rank(s) both your skillbased and experience, should get penalized. If you quit too much, you lose the ability to get req packs when you rank up. Unranked should be the same way, but obviously it only effects your experience gain rank and req packs from that.

I believe that would be enough to keep players from quitting. Also it would somewhat force these players to buy req packs. Which is good for 343, but also for the other players, since these quitters will think twice before doing it again.

.

i think you assume to much about halo players. i'm not so sure a huge amount care about rank or will care much about and/or notice an effect on req packs. i think it needs to be something immediately noticable, such as an appropriate matchmaking ban.

Also just finished the sprint, I love those things so much. I would like to see some continuing support version of these as they go forward.

With this and all of the other E3 coverage I'm still digesting all of it but my initial gut reaction is really positive.

Looks like that trailer bit of Locke fighting Jul with Halsey in the background happens early on (I'm guessing right before the level they demoed). Appears Jul is going to be taken care of quickly which then puts Laskey, Halsey, Roland and Palmer together to have the Chief AWOL discussion (unless that scene radically changed) which we've already heard is happening early on. I expect some words between Palmer and Halsey (Palmer, 'I thought you'd be taller'... Halsey, 'I thought you'd be a better shot')

I'd also be in favor of matchmaking bans. CSGO does this but they can be extremely harsh.

30 min
2 hours
24 hours
7 days

Seven days is a bit much.

Maybe start it off at 5 or 10 mins then 15 mins and keep increasing it up to 24 hours. Also have the ban reset every 24 hours.

I feel like you can never be harsh enough to repeat offenders.

Definitely needs a ban for quitters, idlers, betrayers, etc. 10 minutes should be fine as a starting point, then go from there for repeat offenses.

2 questions that maybe someone will be able to answer: did they confirm friendly fire in arena? It was out in the beta right? I've played too much MCC to remember. Also, in the beta, using left trigger as smart scope was advantageous over using it with the standard R3 because it would auto re-scope after being descoped when shot, correct? Is that still in? I really want to keep grenades on left trigger if I can.

The problem isn't just people quitting several times a day, it's that they quit at all. That's why you need harsh punishments, but also a way to reconnect to a game that's not over yet. People don't give a shit about 15 minute bans, especially not if it takes 3 quits to get to that point. That's why the CSGO method works, people sure as hell don't want to get locked out of the competitive mode for 24 hours, let alone a week. People also actually care about their ranks so they are less compelled to quit out as it counts as a double loss (if not worse).

betrayals are especially tough because a bad player can put himself in an obviously dangerous situation greatly increasing the likelihood a "good" player gets an accidental betrayal. not to mention all the trolling that used to go on where teammates would harass you by constantly dropping your shields to have you die by enemies easier and get angry enough to betray them so you get kicked.

It would be nice if players who betray a teammate can't pickup the weapon the other player was holding, that way you can keep friendly fire on for competitive gametypes while discouraging betrayals.

Have all the control schemes been revealed?

As much as I love bumper jumper, I've gotten pretty comfortable with the Jumper configuration in Destiny.

I agree with that, but only if there's a way to reconnect like you mentioned. Someone's Internet might go out or something beyond their control happens. If the punishment is too harsh for non-repeat offenders, it'll cause more harm than good. If they want to have harsh punishments, that's fine, just have a way for players to reconnect (I doubt this is going to happen though).

the elite controller has me thinking i'll be changing up my control scheme greatly (its been bumper jumper since halo 3). hell, i may even use a dedicated button to ADS - unless this no longer gives an advantage in the final game. updates on this Josh?

Well it won't have campaign theater or btb at launch.
Their "forced" vision is netting us free maps, and will keep the population alive, unlike past DLC's in Halo.
It is forced because if I don't want to play srs arena all the time and want to screw around in a btb environment, then I have to deal with all the random bullshit instead of classic btb.

It is also forced because they are focusing on it more than classic btb. In media and dev time apparently.

And if you think this will keep the fly-by-night halo players that leave after a week for other easy-mode games like CoD then I have some bad news. BATTLEFRONT and CoD come out in the following weeks. Along with Fallout 4.

So, question: is there a point to REQ packs that give you custom skins for anything save for starting weapons in Arena mode? Like, will on-map pickups change depending on who picks them up, or will my Will of the Warrior Energy Sword skin not show up on Truth?
