i'm wondering if we could get mega64 onboard with this. they've already done a video with yu suzuki, so could they possibly do another to advertise the kickstarter like they did with bloodstained?

This kickstarter isn't even a week in and is putting up bigger numbers than the other gaming projects. That is still a good sign we just have to stay positive we can hit the 10 million.

We need to get PewDiePie on board!!

Let's start spamming PewDiePie's twitter requesting him to play through Shenmue 1 and 2 to help S3's kickstarter. lol

And post gifs. I'll try to make new gifs when I play through later today.

This is a good idea, though I think people should also expand their focus to all other popular youtubers with large followings. Can someone make a list?

Please do. It's hard to find good Shenmue gifs on the internet, we need a good database of them to draw upon during the campaign.

They were involved in Bloodstained from the start that's why. There was probably buckets of money dumped into its KS campaign alone. But looking at their E3 reaction video they were definitely interested in doing something for the campaign.

This is Shenmue, not Goat Simulator. If PewDiePie was a Shenmue fan, he would probably have the money to support it alone.
Youtubers don't make that much money.

maybe someone can suggest game grumps restart their shenmue videos? who knows how far in advance they record that stuff though.

i think we'll probably see something from them by the end of the kickstarter

they already tweeted yu's response to a question about them from the AMA. i'm also 99.99% certain that rocco is a jacket tier backer.

We could try to get them to do live twitch streams of it and announce it on their videos. Add a link to the kickstarter saying if you like what you see throw some coins here.

Has there been any reaction from Japan over this announcement? I get the impression Shenmue is something more valued in the West than Japan (or China for that matter).

There's plenty out there;

Clearly, you are missing the best one.

I guess if you guys are seriously going to try youtubers, I may as well mention Chuggaconroy. I've only really heard of him in passing, but he seems to focus heavily on RPGs so Shenmue would probably be right up their alley.

You want to help shenmue? Tell yu to work on that kickstarter page. That shit is NOTHING compared to bloodstained.

You'd probably get another Mil just from a better kickstarter.

Agree and another poor showing is how an update is not out for the 3.5m stretch goal. That would have been updated as soon as it happened in other Kickstarters.

Thought these would be better here:

The going around asking randoms for sailors' whereabouts video someone mentioned would work too.

Maybe not him doing it though, unless he's in costume and they get some emotional reactions.

He might want to mention what we get for $10 million...or at least work his way up to $7 million... hopefully he's on that now.

We could do with some more mid-tier and lower range additional shenmue shit.

Decent but small perks a lot of people can afford and would want to do.
Has to seem like something actually additional and not subtracted to not foster any negativity, but small, simple stuff is fine and can be great. Don't forget to go into more detail about the PC retail version so people don't want to downgrade the pledge to go for other stuff. Another good reason to keep it small and simple but fun.

I don't necessarily want the other thread to die out completely but perhaps not as often.

So I run a popular blog that is hosted on the Tumblr platform and just posted an extremely long piece called Why Shenmue Matters. The post has already gotten over 200 notes and has jumped to the top of the Shenmue, Sony, E3, and PS4 tags on Tumblr. It is also near the top of the general Gaming and Video Games tags.

Wanted to set the tone of Shenmue discussion in a positive way.

Here's the link:

You wouldn't mind If I will translate it in russian?

He makes $4million a year apparently.
These numbers get thrown around a lot but are rarely backed by real data. In reality no-one knows how much these people make. In addition much of their real earnings are usually in shilling.

I see what you did there.

Also was this AP? lol

The Witcher 2 was also made in Poland by people earning like $1k a month which is insane.

No kidding! I don't think I've ever pulled anything off remotely close to that.

In the first game if you practiced your moves and trained the to an 'advance' stage you were typically rewarded with some pretty flashy stuff which altered the moves and animation.

On a side note I know in Suzuki's AMA he mention Ryo's model wasn't final but I really hope they stick to the passport models.

Do we know exactly what Sony's level of involvement is yet? Are they providing the bulk of the funding? Any at all past marketing and platform support? I'm seeing a lot of mixed messages online (presumably because not everyone within Sony is fully clued up and has given out some misinformation).

If they're running this from Japan then they're probably asleep right now. In either case, they'd be wise to wait for it to climb a little higher in order to buffer the milestone.

it's possible they're working on Japan time/not crossing it off until there is no risk of dipping under

i think we're going to have to accept the state of the kickstarter as it is. no more repeated bitching, just ways to get more funding

As I mentioned in the dreamcast thread, I found my dreamcast at my dad's today.

No sign of Shenmue, though.

Opened the console, Shenmue disc 2 was in it. Such a tease. Guess I'll have to keep an eye on ebay and get the best deal I can get. Doubt I'll get it for less than 60, though.

Yup, totally different situations just thought it was funny lol.

With that said someone move the team to Poland lol but in all seriousness I think we can reach 10 million we just need to be more aggressive.

Witcher 3 was $32m, which is still remarkably cheap, but you're right a lot of their artists are very low paid.

As for the Pewdiepie thing, assuming he's not a YouTube partner (he is) and assuming he has no outside endorsements (he does) then he'd just be making the base Youtube ad revenue which for his 9bn views would be about $9m. In reality, he'll be on much more than this as YouTube give better deals to their stars, $1 per 1000 views is their basic rate any scrub can get.

He said the Witcher 2 not 3. They were able to massively ramp up their budget thanks to the success of W2. Polish game developer wages are still 2-4 times lower than the ones you'd find in other European countries and even less than you'd find in the US. Not sure what Japanese developer wages are like. I recall hearing they weren't very high.

Perhaps he does in fact make a fair amount of skrilla but I am still sceptical about these estimates since they rely on interpreting deals that are not publicly available.

Lord Karnage of Classic Game Room is already backing the project as of two days ago, but hasn't sent out more word about it than that.

He reviewed the first Shenmue last November. "It's about time, right?"

Big Sega fan, though I'm not sure if he knows about what the fans have been up to.

Good guy Mark Bussler. His "It's about time, right?" comment was about his long overdue review of the game. It's something that fans of his show have been begging him to review for years now. I think he also included an extensive review on his "Best of Classic Game Room" DVD box set, I think.

Also, GameSack put up a video about the Shenmue 3 Kickatarter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBOuk5wJvNE

Isn't it based more on running time and viewer retention rather basic views?

So much better. Like I said, the first's char design is some of the best, when you look through the tech it was made with. Holds up well today. Love how culturally specific all the characters are.
