It's almost tragic that fucking Shenmue 3 is having issues with its funding right now on KS. It should be a lot higher than it is.
Shenmue 2 will blow your mind! Play it! Shenmue 1 really is a prologue.
Well when you limit the audience, what should they expect.
I've watched some videos and I don't really get it, sorry. Seems super cheesy with some of the worst voice acting ever and lots of pointless things to do that don't look very fun.I swear, people better not not donate and then play Shenmue III and then wish they had given money. People who haven't touched Shenmue - you need to trust us guys, Shenmue is 100% worth your money!

I'm not surprised funding has slowed. Looks like a niche sort of game.

Its the second time you make this stupid post towards me when I have explained my issues with this thing that im backing to play on my damn PC, again learn to fucking read. We need the Xbox people, we need the newcomers and we need the unconvinced. Id be okay if Sony backed this because it would put us near the dream game goal, but they arent and if you want the dream game then its not up users to pitch the game to others while being snarky dolts about it, its up to Yu to find us some new people and he is failing at the moment. Dont bother responding to me if you are gonna operate under console war crap mode.
The cheese was part of the charm. The games were revolutionary back in 1999-2000. Real-time of day, dynamic weather systems, NPCs with their own unique daily patterns, the most detailed world a player could immerse themselves in, all added to just how much love and care went into them. These were legitimately new things brought into the games industry.I've watched some videos and I don't really get it, sorry. Seems super cheesy with some of the worst voice acting ever and lots of pointless things to do that don't look very fun.

Yeah I mean this came out prior to games like GTA 3 which blew the doors open on open world gaming. Shenmue was never open world, but it was the first glimpse for many of us into the idea of a living, breathing world. Its sort of a "you had to be there" kind of situation. It is niche, you're right there. But you have to remember the time these games came out in. There were completely revolutionary.
I've played both Shenmue 1 and 2 when they were released years ago on the DC and Xbox and don't feel like trying to track them down again. I haven't pledge any money yet, but that's because I would want to replay both before Shenmue 3. If they can't somehow figure out a way to re-release 1 and 2 on the PC or something, then I can't justify playing 3. I remember fuck all about those two games and no, some 3 minute synopsis video ain't enough for me.

I played the first game and loved it, but never completed the second. I couldn't get motivated enough since there would be no conclusion.
I'm excited that there could be an end to the story so I'm going to try and complete it soon, probably this week.
This kickstarter rubs me the wrong way, though. Nowhere in that pitch video did he mention 10 million dollars but he made sure to say and caption "But this Kickstarter will be a real success when you choose to make it the full-on Shenmue experience you have dreamed of." Like...maybe afterwards he should have said something like "if you reach the stretch goals." To me it feels like if 10 million is what's really needed to make the game we'd want, then 10 million should've been the goal all along.
I'll just wait for the release and buy it then.Full on respect for Space Harrier, though. just wanted to say that.
Edit: I'm getting a reminder email 48 hours before the campaign ends, I'm still considering backing the project.
laughably bad opinion piece. what's left to even "come clean" about? it's like they glanced over the budget statement and went "WELL, YOU'RE WRONG AND SHADY" shut uuuuuupThe smear campaign by the American gaming media continues.

It is an over simplistic way of describing it, I was just trying to convey that it had an impact on me personally because it was so different than anything I'd played before.I never understand people who seem to think "Yeah.. shenmue. It doesnt seem like you do enough. Kind of boring.. I guess its a product of its time". No, this wasn't made during a time when you pet kittens and drove a forklifts in every game. People like this game because of those things, and a lot more, not in spite of them. "You had to be there" isn't a proper reasoning for why I love the game franchise, and think its one of the best ever still. I'm tired of shooting shit up, flying, and casting spells.

Yes, people are still too focused on that. We need to get as much money into this campaign as possible rather we want to because we want Shenmue III to be as big as it can possibly be, there is no downside to getting more Shenmue. 10m is a major milestone and that's it. We can reach it if we unite and work towards it. This is all we should be thinking about.I do not think his $10 Million is to deliver the full Shenmue experience we know and really miss, but to deliver something more... considerably so.
It's almost like GI and their shit audience missed the last week or two of revelations on this matter...The smear campaign by the American gaming media continues.

I think everyone should be able to play this game, I think Suzuki did go to MS and they passed. Remember that the Xbone isn't even remotely big in Japan and MS passing on funding this is a testimony to that. MS not being able to appeal or their lack of interest to the Japanese crowd hurts this.
Peter Moore is so well known for screwing people out of Shenmue games he doesn't even have to show ID to NSA staff.
It's almost tragic that fucking Shenmue 3 is having issues with its funding right now on KS. It should be a lot higher than it is.
If its providing development help then im mostly okay with this, it would prove more useful than money, but there is no confirmation about it and people are free to speculate in whatever way sounds plausible. It makes absolutely no fucking sense for Yu to jump into bed with Sony simply to spite Xboners. Sony have got to have a major undisclosed role into making Shenmue a reality above and beyond anything a dealing with MS had to bring to the table - to the extent that Yu withheld an Xbone version/ wont be developing it, because the current deal makes Shenmue 3 more of a reality than less of one.
I suspect (with nothing beyond probability based on likelihood alone) that:
1. MS offered zero/inadequet interest/support/financial assistance or interest to Yu in realising Shenmue 3.
2. Sony offered a measurable amount of assistance, either free marketing - which could easily match or exceed the sum raised by Kickstarter as it is or significant developmental support at little to no cost. That might be use of their engines, studios, tech team - even so, games, actors, voice overs, motion capture, asset building cost money - which is where the KS money would go.
I think Sony consider aspects of Shenmue both potentially legendary and potentially toxic - theyre willing to offer Yu a stage at E3, adding their support but also want to have enough distance in case the project is a monumentally commercial flop THIRD TIME ROUND.
Why put tens of millions into a highly risky franchise with historically zero commercial success when they can put that money into a sure fire hit like TLG, Uncharted, GT7?
We dont know the details Sony have with Yu. All we can infer is that Sony made Yu an offer better than MS or at least one that raised more money than by any potential revenue/ support by keeping Xboners onboard.
Its a numbers game. This deal, whatever the details are was the more lucrative one - one that makes Shenmue 3 more epic and likely to exist than a game that would have involved making an Xbone version a reality too.
I think the lack of clarity is more to blame than the people criticizing it. That being said, some people do expect a bit too much out of this Kickstarter. They're being as clear as they can be at this point.
They should have put 10mil from the beginning. Most people just see funded and would rather wait to get it on sale.
Just one more thing. Let it be known 2015 was the year console war BS got in the way of the funding and/or production of a video game. Embarrassing.
This.
Gamers my ass.
A bunch of idiotic fuckwits is more like it.
It is embarrassing.
Sony will likely publish a physical release for PS4.
"I kickstarted a game for $60 and all I got was this $60 game for $60."
I don't understand the hate/confusion.
