Chris Pratt is not the new Harrison Ford, he's the new Brendan Fraser.

He wants to produce, write that kind of stuff. Plus he has an anxiety issue that makes him get tanked for doing press stuff. Probably for the best

Maybe I'm being insensitive, but if you know you have an anxiety issue why do you get into acting? I know you said he's movnig on to the other less in-front positions but still, he made his bank as an actor.

Accurate.

Chris Pine is the superior candidate for Indiana anyway.

He has the look, the physique, the beard, and the comedic chops. He's a cool Kirk and would make a great Indy.

Chris Pine is so dull though.

I have anxiety everytime i go on a date it doesn't mean it's not something that i don't love doing.

Jesus. This thread was dumb 2 months ago and it's dumber now.

If anything, his career trajectory seems to map closer to Will Smith's: Sitcom Star -> Unexpected hit -> Giant Blockbuster. Smith went Fresh Prince to Bad Boys to ID4. Pratt's going Parks & Rec to Guardians to Jurassic World.

What did Smith do to follow up ID4? A little known goofy comics adaptation about alien invasion. What's Pratt's next big thing? a little known goofy comics adaptation about ninja cowboy vikings.

Jurassic World didn't score BECAUSE of Pratt, but he didn't hurt, and people were more than happy to see his ass - just like ID4 didn't play because Will Smith was in it, but people came out of it sure as hell loving Will Smith, didn't they?

He aint Harrison Ford, and he aint Brendan Fraser. He's not Will Smith, either, but it sure as hell seems a lot closer a comparison than either of the other two, and at least that comparison isn't based on having watched two trailers in a row and farting a thought into the void, as happened in the OP.

I don't think he always had the anxiety he does now... he also has matured, he went from wanting to be a "star" to wanting to just act, I don't think he realized when he was younger how he would react to losing things like his privacy.

dofry

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
Difference between Pratt and Fraser is that Pratt is likeable.

There is a huge gap because of that simple thing between them. Guy oozes that everyman type goofy charisma. Fraser is still somewhat trying in Mummy 1 so all was not lost for him.

Can't really say if he'll be Ford but he sure is popular one man, same role casted recently. Kinda like Indy and Han. Same roles, different movies

I'm just commenting to say I'm 100% in support of this. Pine is the superior Chris to play Indiana Jones

people actually like chris pine? I can't stand the guy. there's something about his face that makes hin incredibly tiring to look at. the combination of thick eyebrows, short nose, big eyes and lips is too much. not that he's ugly, it's just too much going on with his face. i can't take the guy seriously, he lacks that natural dignity/authority.

ID4? Independence Day? huh?

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.

I like Chris Pine, he's a decent actor but honestly, he's not leading man material. He doesn't have that "it" quality, or the charisma to pull off leading roles as well as other A-Listers. He's better as a supporting actor imo.

The official Chris ranking in terms of both looks and talent goes like this:

Chris Evans > Chris Hemsworth > Chris Pratt > Chris Pine

I have anxiety issues especially socially but I still went into nursing. It's not something you can't learn to deal with.

I always the hate the "hes the new "x"" talks, its so disrespecting.

Hes his own brand of actor, doing it his own way, that should be enough.

My issue is with the prattoons acting like Pratt is the reason that Jurassic World did so well. It's simply not true, ANY decent looking actor could have been put in the role and the movie still would have blown up due to the nostalgia factor and brand power.

Avengers 1 (which JW couldn't beat for the opening weekend BO record btw) set records, yet I'm not claiming that Chris Evans is the reason for it even though he's my favorite actor because I'm REALISTIC.

Pratt got lucky, his TRUE star power will be tested if he ever opens a movie that does well at the BO with no brand attachment or nails a dramatic role which he has yet to do.

No one is claiming he is the sole reason the movie did well. But it's disingenuous to claim he "had no role" or "anyone else would have done the same". He was a factor. Not the main factor, but a factor, one of several.
That also ignores all context for The Avengers.

If Chris Pratt doesn't lose his hair he could turn out more Harrison Ford than Brendan Fraser.

People talk a lot of shit but acting ain't that hard but you have to be able to LOOK the part.

Acting is extremely difficult, you've either got it or you haven't.

It's hard enough acting natural in front of an audience, never mind acting natural playing something that you are not.

I really hope people don't think Guardians and jurassic World were successful movies because of Pratt. Guardians had everything to do with James Gunn + Marvel branding + goofy memorable marketing campaign and Jurassic World is the sequel to Jurassic Park and the first real big blockbuster movie we've seen in a long time. People were hungry.

Saw the Mummy last night... yeh Pratt is a pretty cool guy, but Fraser seems a far better actor and has better comedic timing.

Are people here saying The Mummy is a bad movie? Lol. I think it's on par or even better than the Indiana Jones movies.

What? Neither Pratt or Fraser will ever make anything as good as Raiders of the Lost Ark, probably the greatest action film of all-time.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
He's had a few good hits other than those. Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. The Fugitive. Air Force One. Blade Runner's a cult classic.

Bladerunner may be a cult classic but geez it bombed hard, cinemas were nearly emtpy on launch weekend.

I'm only saying this as the quote you were responding to was asking about Fords megastar quality and he certainly didn't have it there based on Ridley Scotts reports of BO performance even though Ford had American Grafitti, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Raiders under his belt at the time.

I think Pratt could maybe do Indy, but he's not quite Harrison Ford level. Think of Ford movies like Presumed Innocent or Witness - you could never see Pratt in dramatic roles like that.

I used to quite like Brendan Fraser back in the day. Way back in the day, when I was a kid. Like when he did Airheads. And Blast from the Past. Never got into the Mummy films.

Fraser has always bothered me. I did like him for a bit, but then I realized how terrible he is. Pratt is a more likeable dude. I believe he already has a better portfolio than Fraser.

People like Chris Pine. I honestly did not know that was a thing that existed. What the fuck.

Well, this thread is beyond saving. I'm out.

What in the holy fuck am I reading? Go watch Parks and Rec or better yet, P&R bloopers and then talk about Pratt's comedic timing.

Personally I'd prefer Indy remains a singular character as defined by Ford and they, y'know, come up with a new character and a new film concept the same way Lucas did with Raiders in the first place.

I'm so, so bored and tired of the redundant recycling of existing material as a way of trying desperately to milk a brand and reduce risk.

Take risks. Fucking create new films and characters damn it Hollywood!

Nothing against Pine as such (he's too lean though for me as Indy exists as a big guy who's a bit clumsy and gets the job done whereas Pine is gym lean and light looking).

But hey look at Kyle Reese in the new Terminator, guy really looks like he grew up hungry eating rats and scarred by battle.
