Solid Snake Japanese voice actor: ‘Kojima Productions has disbanded’

Money and freedom.

Because honestly? Between publisher X willing to give him 100 million to make Alloy Toothed Wheel Rigid and publisher Y giving 50 million for freedom to pursue something new altogether like he did with Boktai/ZoE, I'd say there's a higher chance he'll take the latter.

If Kojima was a 'hit machine', then yes. But the reality is that even though a lot of his games are ingenious and fun, the ones that print money is only Metal Gear.

Who's the one that will balance the money and creative freedom will get Kojima, imo.

It's going to be interesting to see how much weight 'Hideo Kojima the blank canvas developer' vs 'Hideo Kojima the creator of Metal Gear' carries with publishers and gamers alike.

I'm sure that wherever he goes or whatever he does, he'll be able to do whatever the hell he likes creatively speaking. But he does enjoy his big, flashy, expensive game/movie experiences, and that may sway him.

I'm guessing Kojima next game will be smaller in scope compare to Phantom Pain. Not indie game budget small, still AAA but smaller with mid sized studio. I think it'll be a while until the new studio stabilize and grow over time before he tackle another project as huge as TPP.

That's my guess anyway

Had Kojima not left and PT continued on to be Silent Hill reboot, that's most likely gonna be another huge hit for him. The reception for PT is incredible.

All the more reason to carry on making Silent Hills, with a different game. A good horror game doesn't not need an incredible scale or lots and lots of things to do. Quality is of paramount importance, and quantity really not, in this genre, imo.

Feels like they're in some network television drama.

Don't forget to watch NBC's Tokyo Fire Wednesday night at 9:00.

I will repeat what I've always said since we found out he was being sacked in December.

Sony should give him and the KojiPro team their own studio with the budget akin to the Uncharted games with the creative freedom they give to the Naughty Dog team.

Just let the team run wild and release the awesomeness to the world.

If Kojima went independent, pretty much any game project he pitch will have multiple publisher willing to sign in unless he demand ridiculous budget.

And I'm not sure why you think MS is the one who more 'gets him' than Sony considering Kojima seems more closer with Sony or even Nintendo since they do have mgs twin snakes.

The only reason to go with ms is if Kojima next project require a lot of money that make any other publisher step away.

requiring a lot of money would bring him even more closer to Sony, Sony's spending are much higher on Video Games than MS.

Besides, a lot of former team Silent staff work at Sony now including Toyama, they can collaborate with Kojima to make the best horror game ever made.

I don#t care who, I just hope someone will give Kojima and his team money and free reign. That is all I want.

Sony spend a lot of money on games, but I think they're a bit more conservative about game budget, they're willing to fund experimental, weird and unique games, but they're not gonna spent like 60-80 million on those.

Now correct me if im wrong but doesnt naughty dog work under a small budget by typical bloated aaa standards? (Not including marketing)

Their projects are usually pegged in the 20s for uncharted. It's probably over 40 million now due to studio expansion and longer dev cycle.

Uncharted 2 costed them 20 million to make and Uncharted 3 costed the same.

Naughty dogs are wizards not because of their technical prowess but also for the fact that they have low budgets in the AAA realm and pump out the most impressive games in the industry.

ND, imo is probably one of the most efficiently ran AAA studio around, I doubt they're the norm. also I'm sure their budget has increased a lot now for Uncharted 4 compared to their 20Mil for Uncharted 2 times.

I could also see kojima turning it down because it's a fools errand. This is a guy who created Raiden for the purpose of appealing to Japanese women/growing the fan base demographic in his country. A man with an ego like his would probably not be happy with his game doing poorly in his home region. Just my thoughts.

I agree. I don't know why people keep saying that he's going to go with an American company like Microsoft just because, "Microsoft has a lot of money."

First off, just because Microsoft has a lot of money, doesn't mean that it all goes towards the Xbox brand. The Xbox brand only gets a set fund each fiscal year.

Second, someone like Kojima isn't going to turn back on Japanese fans for future games. Heck, Ono didn't want Microsoft for the funding of Street Fighter V, he wanted Sony. Not to mention that having games exclusively on Xbox won't be doing so hot in terms of sales.

People keep throwing out Microsoft as someone who will acquire him but when you look at his relationship with Sony and how they treat their top devs it seems to me he may they have the stronger push to pick him up. I'd rather he go someplace where he can bring his efforts to light with the least resistance. Also I would hate for him to get the Rare treatment.

I still have a hard time accepting this...and I don't want to imagine how bad Konami will fuck up ANOTHER ONE of my favorite gaming franchises of all time.

Sony's definitely going to sweet-talk him. As will many publishers. But like I said before, I think he's going to go where the most money is, if only to hold as much of Kojipro together as he can, and after the recent Sony 2nd party downsizing and the Shenmue Kickstarter thing, I'm not sure they can offer Kojima the kind of funds I'm assuming he'll want. Microsoft on the other hand could and probably would pay through the nose to have him. I'm sure we'll hear something by the end of the year.

Someone like Kojima going with Microsoft is like a very talented rapper joining someone like Bad Boy Entertainment/P. Diddy; It just wouldn't work.

Plus we all know how Microsoft works well with first party franchises, including on how they treated Rare.

It is still possible, regardless of how some of us might feel about such news. Regardless of whoever Kojima works with in the future, you can rest assured he will make great games.

But Spencer, The Messiah of Xbox has rectified all that.

People really focussed on Sony, for some reason. I do think MS is off the table though, if we're talking about creating a new Japanese studio and not just getting Kojima to oversee an MS game.

What about other big publishers? I'm looking at you, Square Enix.

Shu, if you're reading this, get Andy on the phone and tell him that you're making a new WWS studio with these guys.

Thanks in advance. :)
