Can someone explain why everyone's getting extra emotional from this? I assume it's an important Earthbound spoiler?

I will miss his enthusiasm, warmth, and inventiveness. His unwavering quest for what is fun, what defines that "Nintendo Magic" even if I've felt frustrated with some of their decisions over the last couple years; I've always known that he was trying to steer us to new unexplored horizons of fun.

Sometimes in the pursuit of that goal you hit roadblocks, it doesn't always come out as intended, but he was at the forefront taking risk on that next new thing. I appreciate that.

I will miss his Nintendo Directs, developer interviews his off kilter humor, and it truly is a great loss for the industry. RIP Iwata.

RIP, a legend through and through. The worst news to find out prior to sleep.

He a gift to the world of gaming, and there aren't many like him.

I'd also like to request a ribbon on my avatar please, a pm would be appreciated too.

Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata. Thank you for being the man you were, for making the world a better place, and a key figure to my childhood and many others today.

I'm speechless. Leaking tears. I hope he knew just how much joy he helped bring into the world over his career. What a terrible terrible loss. 55 is too young.

R.I.P, Mr. Iwata. And thank you for everything.

The world lost an amazing man entirely too early. He was one of the few people that truly loved both what they did and the joy it brought to others, and it was easily to see just that.

The world will be much emptier without the true heart and soul of Nintendo among us, and I offer my condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Satoru Iwata, you will be missed by millions

Absolutely devastating news. It's rare to get so worked up over someone I don't even know, but Iwata is a legend. He will truly be missed.

How does the Company replace such a force of personality? Although I didn't agree with some of his decisions as President he definitely was felt in the Gaming Community.

Iwata was great both as a person and as a Videogame designer. He brought joy to so many of us with his games. I'll never forget him.

Wow. I really didn't see this coming.

My grandmother passed away Friday, now this. This week has been a series of fantastic ups for me, only to be hit at the end of the week with horrible downs. Talk about life loving to shit in your cereal when things are looking up. :(

RIP

I am shocked. Aside from his missing 2014 E3 for surgery, I didn't think there had really been any indication that he hadn't made a full recovery.

So sad. RIP.

Awww maaan... First time on GAF for the day, and this is the first thing I see. :(

Very sad day for gaming. I was nervous about his weight loss, but then I figured he would be ok. Smh...

Rest In Peace Iwata!

WHAT!?!? Damnit!!! D= This is so fucking out of the blue...

RIP Iwata. Thank you for the memories! You will forever be remembered.

Here is a scaled down version for avatars, with a white glow to detach it from the background. And the original. It's quick and dirty.
