Has anyone translated Sakurai's tweet on the matter?
Even in google translate you can tell he had a great level of respect for him.

Goddamn it :(
Hugely important and influential developer and business man. Because of Directs and presentations I'd come to know him more than most game bussiness men. I'm deeply saddened by this.
RIP

You guys need to chill with the asshole comments. That's just Pachter's honest opinion of his business style. It's not like he knew him personally.

I know Mr. Iwata's death is sad, but there's no reason to go ripping into people who have a less than 100% opinion of someone. Relax.

Rest in peace, Mr. Iwata.
Going to go and watch that whole GDC 2005 keynote video later tonight.
The news still seems kind of surreal, like I can't believe it just happened. Probably won't feel real until the next Direct without him.

Out of all of the (incredible) tribute images so far, this has hit me the hardest. Nintendo games exist in brightest parts of human imagination - they push the buttons at the epicenter of fun, slide through our brains bringing a trail of creative whimsy in their wake. Seeing a picture of Kirby crying, or Mario with his head bowed still takes me to those vibrant worlds - a sadder continent to be sure, but in those vibrant worlds nonetheless.

This image, though... this is brick and stone. Metal and mortar. This is real. An actual human of finite longevity, of failing flesh and blood, will soon be laid to rest. Another incarnation of the man can't be programmed, another Iwata asks can never be held, and another direct with him will never be filmed.

Iwata's final credits are here, the closing coda on one of the most genuine and beloved characters the game of life ever programmed. Sure, we can replay Iwata's greatest moments, but we'll never get another new level.

So thank you, Satoru Iwata. Thank you for your integrity, thank you for your prowess, and most of all - thank you for leading us through the few bright spots Earth still has to offer. </3
Beautiful post.

If anyone could hook me up with the ribbon as well, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't really tend to change my avatar, but this is a time where it is appropriate. My mukumuku can just be sitting on top of the ribbon or whatever. I would just like to honor Iwata-san.

What a damn tragedy. His influence on the Wii/DS era was the most enjoyable era of games for me personally.

I love what he tried to do and his attitude was always positive and he really seemed like a big kid in some ways - fun was important to him.

This is not fair though for him and his family. Too soon by far.

RIP

Good post :( I'm finding it hard to vocalize how sad I feel, so I'm glad that so many are sharing their thoughts like yours. Thank you. That photo is just... heavy. /sigh

Saw this on KYM. This thread is moving so fast, sorry if it's been posted already

Holy shit. Terrible, awful, horrible news. :(
Huge loss for Nintendo and the medium in general. Rest in peace.

I'd appreciate a ribbon, too, please.

It's crazy the effect this news have had on all of us. Very few knew him personally, but the terrible news of him passing away hit us like a punch to the gut.

Rest in Peace to a great. I loved seeing his charismatic self during every Nintendo Direct. The puppets from the past E3 will remind me of how Iwata was: happy, cheerful and loveable.

What a shitty feeling to know that one of the last things he has done as CEO is to apologize for Nintendo's E3. The man must have worked over the last months knowing that he was going to die. He didn't deserve to pass away on that note. :-(
This is sad to think about :(

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
R.I.P Mr. Satoru Iwata

A legend with great talent and an extraordinary person. Saddening news.

I'm fucking crying :(

My friends and family think it's a little odd that I'm so bummed about the passing of a CEO but they don't know the Iwata we know from Directs and Iwata Asks. A genuinely good dude who almost had a poetic way of speaking. Gone too soon.

It's pretty damn cool that even though I've never met the man, I feel like I've connected with him through the games I've played.

Shows how this little medium of ours transcends the physical. The love and care he put into his games reached me, just another average joe on the other side of the planet.

This is a lovely sentiment. It's funny to think of the stories of him toiling away, bugfixing what is now old code, while he was in management- an embodiment of that special Nintendo polish that makes so many of their games timelessly appealing. It really sounded like he treated his games like labours of love instead of simple products.

He wrote it poorly, it made it come off as if he wanted to reiterate how bad of a CEO he thought Iwata was.

A slight change in phrasing woulda made all the difference...

For instance, "I know I've been critical of Mr. Iwata but...." or something. He probably didnt mean anything harsh. Just hit enter a tad fast.
