Holy crap what? I knew he was ill but didn't know that it had gotten much worse. This is way too sudden. He endured a lot directing Nintendo through these tough times.

Holy shit. Just came home and saw this on my facebook feed and thought it was a joke. Then I saw it was from Kotaku and came here. Man, that sucks. RIP Iwata, you will be missed!

Next E3--or the New Year's Direct--is going to be bittersweet. We will finally be able to see Iwata's legacy, the NX, without Iwata himself being there. I'm calling it right now. Seeing the moments of the NX unveiling is going to be both joyous and sad.

Had a exciting day at San Diego Comic Con only to come home to this D:

R.I.P. Iwata. I'll miss your Directs and hair flips. Having Balloon Trip music on loop.

Really sad news to wake up to. Iwata did a fantastic job as Nintendo's boss and his successor will have huge footprints to step into. I guess he was aware of likely dying soon, considering the horrible outlook of his illness and I really find it impressive how some people can keep on working and keep on smiling, as well as keep on putting smiles on people's faces while facing death themselves. Iwata was a great person and due to hisstrong connection to Nintendo's fans via Iwata Asks and Nintendo Directs, he certainly will be missed a lot. Thanks for your fantastic work and rest in peace Mr. Iwata.

Man I logged on saw this topic and my heart dropped. I thought it was a misleading title (I didn't see the word away when I read), but it's not. This is hard to take :(

Wow, this caught me totally off guard.

I was out, and saw it all over my Twitter feed.

He was the face of Nintendo. He had a warm charisma that can't be replaced.

Oh my god! I just turned on the computer to read the news and my stomach dropped! Rest In Peace Iwata. This makes me incredibly sad.

While I'm saddened about his passing, his death made me remember my brother and I laughing so hard that we hurt and were crying while playing Pokemon Stadium mini games.

Let's not bring Jobs into this. You either love him or you hate him.

I think it just shows the rapid change, it's not about him. It's really tragic.

Nintendo should release an Iwata amiibo to honor his legacy.

I kind of like this concept, but not so much the idea of the profiting off of his image- unless proceeds all went to his family or something, which I'd be down for.

The mans legacy is far-reaching. I'm still in shock about it.

Honestly this is the first time I've felt genuinely affected by the death of someone I've never met.

Deeply sad news. My thoughts go out to those who were fortunate enough to know him personally.

Ribbon please :[

R.I.P. I criticized a lot of the decisions he made, but he's an awesome person and it can't be said that he hasn't done a lot of other great things for Nintendo. In a lot of ways it was awesome that he was such a big fan of video games and the President of a video game.

I remember back in playing Pokemon Silver than after exploring through Johto I was overjoyed at seeing the entire region of Kanto return. Just learning recently that Iwata was responsible for such a major game feature really hit home for me. Not to mention with his work on SSB Melee which I've met many close friends on playing together.

Again, rest in piece Satoru Iwata; you created my childhood and arguably the gaming industry as we know it.

This man has made such a huge impact on me since my childhood, I am literally sick. You will be missed and your memories shall live on in your masterpieces. RIP Iwata-san.

I did not expect to come home to this. I hope he passed peacefully. Prayers for his family. RIP, Mr. Iwata. Nintendo won't be the same without you.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
I just read this on a tech site, and heard this on Radio 5 Live.

I honestly can't believe it. I know he had time off last year because of illness but had no idea anything major was up.

As somebody who does fundraising when I can for a UK cancer charity, and have lost too many loved ones I just have to say this:

Fuck you cancer, seriously. RIP and my thoughts can only be with Iwata's family right now.

Spent the last two and a half hours streaming while working on this, and reminiscing about Iwata's triumphs. Great stuff.

Rest in peace, Iwata-san.
