Man guys I usually don't get this sad at deaths. Robin Williams made me sad but not like this. I feel a little empty when I think about Nintendo without Iwata. The man was a really great guy.

Nintendo will not be able to have Nintendo Directs anymore. The whole format was so Iwata-centric it will be too upsetting to use that method to communicate with fans in that way.

They were very Iwata-centric (i don't know, but where the Directs Iwata's idea?)

They are a good way to communicate with users/fans, do Nintendo have another option though, i think they should continue with them, i cannot imagine Iwata would have wanted them to end although they will never be the same without him.

I don't think the next CEO will be doing the Directs though & i think it will be some time before the next Direct.

Made this but i don't feel i can finish it. I just can't.

You have to finish it.

Would it be an odd request to ask a couple of GAFFERS to go online in MK8 with a Iwata Mii's and drive slowly around one of the simpler tracks like a semi-funeral procession and save the replay?

Or would this be too weird/insensitive?

EDIT: I mean this in the best intentions, as a sort of memorial run around the track.

I would like to do this.

I can only hope to one day achieve the same level of passion that you brought to your work.

You are an inspiration.

Rest in peace Satoru Iwata. Thank you for everything.

While I don't think they'll be the same without Iwata on a white background pointing his arms at me and looking at bananas, Nintendo should not stop doing the Directs. They're still a great way to communicate their games and announcements.

Actually, thinking about Directs without Iwata has made me realise it's still not properly sunk in that he's gone.

Same. First one without him is going to feel super awkward.

I'm really hoping the stress of his position didn't wear him down too much during his last years. When I heard about his declining health I just accepted it was nothing that would ultimately stop him from performing his job. Now I just wish his time during his health struggles was as comfortable and stress free as possible. We the fans demand so much of him but as this thread shows we loved the man and deep down wanted the best for him.

It's going to take ages for me to get over the idea Iwata will never participate in another Nintendo direct or E3 presentation.

Jesus. That list just goes on forever. I had no idea he was this involved. Just quietly working away. Deserves the legend status being attributed to him today.

He didn't work on that many games. Yamauchi is listed on even more games than Iwata as an exec producer - because he was the CEO, despite never designing a game in his life.

...hate me...
24 hours later and pretty sleep deprived, since it was hard to get sleep in the face of this, I'm about to get some rest. I've come to terms. Life is so hard. I wasn't expecting this at all but I must have been in legitimate denial, since I always rationalised his thinness with a permanent lifestyle/diet/body change post-treatment.

It was, to an extent, Steve Jobs all over again, but this time with an unannounced ending. 2 of the leaders I most admired, even though not necessarily for the same reasons. Losing them almost in the same way, almost at the same age. Fuck cancer.

My final thought is that I truly hope he was at peace. I'd take some solace in knowing that.

Oh wow, I wonder if that's how he came up with "Please understand." It was a pun this whole time!
It was a pun?

I really have no clue if it was or not, he seemed so genuine with how he said it. I actually didn't know that Satoru had roots in "to know" or "understand." And his given name spelling connects it with "smart" which he undoubtedly was.

岩田 聡 Satoru Iwata

聡, "smart"

I'm looking to add a ribbon for myself, anyone have the collection of ribbons to choose from?

Also, I offered and it's still available, let me know if you want me to add a ribbon to your avatar. :)

However, because things move so quickly, PLEASE PM me! It's really hard to collect requests especially if others will fulfill them while I'm doing someone's avatar. :)

Going through this thread has been hard, I've been really fighting off the tears here. I normally don't feel like this when someone 'famous' passes on, but Iwata has been with this industry for so long that it just hits like a train.
