Is this the first time we can see N64 version so clearly and not in a off-screen video? This looks good, although zombies are too much like RE2 zombies geometry wise (wouldn't surprise me if those were the same models, only retextured).

My only guess is that they had higher resolution renders of the backgrounds, unlike REmake in which they had to just pull the images from the disc. They clearly still don't have the original 3D models tho to re-render as they're still doing the pan and zoom technique.

RE Zero already used pan and zoom technique so that might be that. Looking at comparisons between the original and HD remaster you can see that those isn't just higher resolution original backgrounds. There are some details here and there added.

Also, good god is this game gorgeous. :D

I wonder if they still modeled Rebecca after Ayumi Hamasaki for the remaster too. She sorta looks more like her now than she did in the original.

It's a shame REmake doesn't look nearly as good, I'd buy it again if they fix the backgrounds.

It would be nice if they included all the t-shirts in the final game, but more than anything else I want a bandito costume for Billy to match Rebecca's cowgirl one, and the N64 models for both characters.

Or they are rerendering to maintain the intended aspect ratio.

That's a N64 prototype? Looks more like a PS1 game, with the way models get so distorted.
It's regretable they kept assets for this game but not for REmake. I never even beat this game on Gamecube.

Didn't now about the N64 version or maybe I just don't remember. Cool stuff.

Anyway, the remaster looks fantastic, better than REmake.

The assets look much better than in RER... but the lighting looks worse than in the GC version. everything is just too bright and the new color palette is too one-tone. For now, I think it lacks ambiance.

As someone that didnt keep up with these REs when they first came out, im surprised that this one is so commonly disliked. I was under the impression all of the REs from that era were generally liked.

Is this truly a bad game, or just bad compared to RE remake?

Matter of tastes.
I love Zero to death.
Some people hate the no item boxes/inventory system or the plot.
Only you can decide.

it's bad compared to REmake. the main issue being that you control two characters separately, and there's no item boxes, so you constantly have to drop items and come back to them

People don't like the fact that there are no item boxes which is definitely an issue.

What I did was define fixed places to drop items so I always knew where my stuff was and always choose places where I had to pass often.
For example, the mansion entrance would be a perfect spot since you're constantly passing through it.
Now, if you scatter your items all over those roms where you only need to go once to solve a puzzle and are generally out of the way, you're going to have a bad experience.

Other than that, it's a fantastic RE game. People complain about the story but considering where the bar is for that in this franchise all I can really do is chuckle.
It's the usual b-tier, cheesy, terribly acted stuff you find in all old RE games. (Not that the recent ones are any better but at least the VA is serviceable lol).
Revelations 2 did it right, it actually had a good story but both the script and the acting infused just the right amount of cheese to give it with that RE feel.

That video is so damn cool. Man, I cannot wait for this!! They did an excellent job with REmaster, so hope they keep that quality at a high level with this release as well. Hot damn, man, this game holds up so well. Sure, there's a lot of brushing up done in the remastered version, but good Lord, they had a pretty nice base to work with.

As far as I know before this all we ever got on-screen was when Capcom released a trailer/commercial for the game when it was originally set to be released as the N64 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUVd3G-MCSw

Other than that, there's a bunch of off-screen footage from the demos that various people recorded at the time.

That Ayumi model <3

Mah waifu. <3

Tho, I ultimately think a lot of people disliked that Capcom did that. I've talked to a few people who took issue that they basically changed her race by modeling her after Ayumi. I think that's silly, she looks great.

Hoping there are more enhancements than RE1 HD, that caves area was disappointing to see. This looks great so far though. Feel like the fresh coat of paint helps this entry more than the other one.

Also hope we get the prototype Rebecca costume as an unlockable

This is such a good looking game, but it also might be the one seriously bad game in the main RE franchise, for me anyways. People talk shit about Code Veronica or 6, but this one is so much worse.
Aside from graphics, it has no redeeming qualities. It's just so boring.

I hope they include the N64 prototype as an unlockable.

Exactly what I was thinking about while watching this video.

Also, I love how Billy almost 'S.T.A.R.S.' the same way in the prototype than in the OG version. :lol

EDIT: The remaster's looks REALLY good, I'm not sure of it, but the pre-rendered backgrounds seem to look better than REmaster's.

They have all the original assets unlike REmake, and the original Zero team came back and is doing this themselves.

Well, like the other HD titles, if they can't have physical releases for them, I won't buy it. Big RE fan, but I want my discs dang it!

I agree. Really don't like the change in lighting

Yeah it's actually very simple. Dump the items in the main hall until you get to the second half of the game and then dump everything on the basement floor where the burning train wreck is. That way you can access anything you to need with the elevator. Then again there isn't much you need at all. You're carrying at least 90% of what you *need* all the time.

Wow, just paid attention to the title and saw PS3, 360.

Games still coming to those in 2016? Depressing.

The only game that depresses me coming out on last gen is Dragons Dogma online.

The game is cross-play with PS3, a 2016 PC and a PS4. So all the game is designed around PS3's memory and abilities, enemy count, scale, scenery etc. So the most you'll get is a large boss with a couple of goons at most on a 2015/6 PC no matter what.

I thought it was a refreshing take on the franchise. I just don't agree with the plotline. Neither the lack of item boxes or having a dual partner affected the experience in any way whatsoever and this is just coming of someone who had JUST finished all 4 campaigns in RE2 on the Vita back to back with A ranks.

They had this demo at Capcom's booth at Anime Expo last week. It looks pretty smooth; at least over 30fps. The game also looks a lot sharper than I remember.

Still, we have to wait a while to get it; it's my favorite RE game.

They've started a voting face-off for an alternative t-shirt design DLC for Rebecca at Capcom's official page: https://game.capcom.com/bio0hd/lang.html

Thanks for the heads-up. Glad the white shirt won, it's awesome.

Second round has stared. I still like the white one more.
Definitely worth it for the dlc code, they also send you a link to a developer diary video as soon as you vote.

Prefer the white one, but honestly unsure why they don't just include two or three of these. Once they have Rebecca modelled in a blank t-shirt changing the colour and image would be pretty simple.

Hope they do a similar promo for Billy.

I hope they also include another bonus costume. I like the idea with the T-shirt one, but I would prefer something more... different, stylish or weird.

The developer diary video I got a link to on my email shows the difference between the old and the new Rebecca model:

Well i would say:
Very good games, among the best ever.
RE 1 rebirth
RE 2
Good-Average games:
Re 1
Re 3
Bad games:
Code Veronica
RE 0
Very bad games:
RE 4
RE 5
Utter Shit:
RE 6

(And yes re4 was a bad game, with a terrible story/plot, ridiculous characters, no respect for suspension of disbelief at all.
The "daughter of US president" thing was a complete no sense, maybe it sound believable for a kid or something. The excessive almost comical action, the female soldier with high heels and full-dress... come on, that's shit.)

This re0 has worse gameplay mechanics compared to the first, with a worsened inventory management, and the character switch was a pain. I would say that plot is bad too, the leech thing doesn't fit at all with the franchise. Also there is a huge drop in mood, and some of the lame action in cutscenes is added too.
The lame-action was introduced with code veronica, which had very bad cutscenes, since that game the franchise quality deteriorated.
Please note that it wasn't just RE, a lot of games and movies followed the same bad path: take MGS and the twin snakes for example, the latter completely ruined by nosense queasy action.

Thanks for the contest link! Glad I was able to get in on the voting. Definitely voted for the white shirt, although I think the pink heart one looked cute on her.

I'm planning a massive playthrough of the RE series. what is the best way to play them? Chronological order or release date order? I also will be playing through the chronicles games and the code x veronica game. I could probably look it up on google, but why not on GAF right? :p
