iOS Gaming July 2015 | Apple bans the revolution

But the thing with IOS is you never know when some quality release will drop out of the blue

Yeah, like many others, we've tended to basically do all our press and announcements at launch on the day historically ourselves. Our next (self published) release has a bit more breathing room so that will be announced a few weeks ahead of the actual global launch for a change. Be interesting to see how that impacts things for us.

was looking for a fun roguelike so i picked up Sproggiwood

a bit pricey, but it seemed well reviewed

only played a little bit on the commute but it seems really fun. love the art direction and music, the graphics themselves are big and bright and there seems to be a sandbox town builder in the mix which i sort of love (more games should throw stuff like this in there.)

I've been wanting to pick this up but haven't even put as much time into another rogue like, Crowntakers, as well as the many other games filling up my iPad. But it definitely is on my wish list.

I'd be interested in knowing how much of the game is focused on the town building portion once you've played more. For some reason, that's a gaming genre I can't get into. But the rest of the game certainly looks intriguing.

There's at least one interesting release for point and click lovers (and iPad owners) ;)

Guessing that's Syberia. I had thought that already had an iOS release, but apparently not.

Edit: that must have been Android. Got it in a Humble Bundle a while ago.

Edit 2: It is already on iOS. What's with the new release? Could be that it is free with an unlock instead of a price tag just to get people to try it.

interestingly enough, the town building seems completely optional and purely "sandbox"

what i mean is, i can design and place buildings/roads/etc freely, at no cost and with no benefit to the core gameplay. it seems like just a fun little thing to play around with, and i kind love it for it.

Cool. Sounds good to me. Will be picking this up at some point.

That seem to be it but nope, it's not Syberia I was referring to :)

Tales From Deep Space by Amazon Game Studios is on sale at 3.99$:
https://appsto.re/us/x-KB6.i

Wonder if Amazon is not selling it well. It dropped to $3.99 a few weeks ago, went back up and now down again.

Truly hope they succeed since the studios they are publishing from are pretty talented.

In other news, playing a little more of Star Wars:Uprising and it's pretty....blah.

Not horrible but not particularly fun either. Probably will be deleting.

Other than some casual quick play games, right now I find it hard to resist going back to Deathwatch whenever I have the time.

Main thing I'm looking forward to tonight is Prune. Looks gorgeous, and seems like a fun touch-friendly puzzler

Hex Brutal may be good, but not sure how much different it is than Alone. Also curious about Super Retro Bros. as to whether it's good or just a crappy Mario Bros. knock off.

Wait... a reboot that isn't a stupid, blatant cash-in? Hopefully it has MFi support but even if not, I'm going to get it for sure. Need to support more of this over the shitty IAP practices of other pubs.

It's a port of a console game that is absolutely garbage.

As one who pumped quarters into Q*bert long ago, I don't think it's all that bad. The classic mode basically is the original game and the controls work fairly well (a huge complaint on consoles, so maybe it's better on mobile in that regard). The updated mode is just a little more slick, but also seems appropriately toned down from the screens I've seen from consoles.

By today's standards, the game itself may seem trite to many, but as a port for fans of the original? Don't really see the issue.

Maybe the control shift has improved it but it was super sluggish on console and generally a port that didn't need to happen.

I've played it!

It's a good concept that starts off a bit on the easy side but picks up afterwards. It's polished and has a good amount of content.

Overall it's a good puzzler but it may lack a certain something to make it great.

This is about my impression as well. It is a nice game, but for some reason it just didn't hook me like I thought it would.

May have to rid myself of the lackluster Star Wars: Uprising and check this out. Haven't played many MMOs other than a brief flirtation with Guild Wars.

Edit: Ugh. A stamina system in Forsaken World. Why couldn't they just use the PC version's F2P model? Seems like if it's mobile and F2P they gotta go with timers and crap. Yuck.

Yeah, Uprising is nothing special. Nothing surprising coming from Kabam, but I'm a massive Star Wars fan so it's always disappointing...

Yes. Also read over at Droid Gamers that Aspyr is gauging interest for a mobile port of KOTOR II (which I was surprised was not already in the works). Much rather have that than Uprising.

You can sign up to show that interest here:

Now if we could just get some Rogue Squadron action on iOS....I'd be forever attached to my Mini 2.

Can you tell that I really don't want to be at work today?

Are you talking about the original Qbert or the "HD" version?

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with having easy access to the original. The reboot I could take or leave (and having hexagonal squares is an evolution the game just didn't need to make, and feels worse for it), but I'm going to completely ignore that part. The gem doubler, the character selection and stuff I'm going to ignore. Original is there (with leaderboards) and that makes me happy enough.

Well, Forsaken World is a broken mess...at least for me on a U.S. server, which probably isn't even supposed to be live, but it was the only one I could choose. But all kinds of graphical glitches, no tutorial, no indication of where to go or how to get there...

Yeah, I'll wait for the worldwide release but based on what I saw and the stamina shenanigans, I don't see this game being for me.

Looks fun, but seems like Skullduggery is an improved version of the concept. Been a while since I played them, but I recall not being that impressed with the To Fu games

Oh, this is much different than Skulldruggery. More of a puzzle game than the fast paced platforming / combat of that game. Your more concerned with limiting your moves and figuring out the best way to get through each level (although faster times do award better scores). And it is vastly better than the earlier To Fu games.

The 2.5D graphics, level design and level of polish are up to the same standards as the other Amazon Game Studios output. Also seems to have a lot of content for the meager $1.99 asking price.

Picked up Prune. Seems like it might be on short side, but it's well worth the $4 for the art style and polish. The levels do get more challenging, but don't expect SpaceChem or LYNE. More about the experience than mind-bending puzzles

Sounds like I'll have to check it out

I'm addicted to Alphabears. Help. I did finally get to check out Deathwatch, too, and I'm really digging it so far (even if it is a huge battery hog). Does the game contain anything similar to X-com's base building aspects, or is it just straight up combat?

No base building. Just awesome, tense combat with a nice mix of scenarios.

Nvm, learned that Prune is longer than I had guessed (5 Chapters, around 50 levels) and it continues to introduces fun and interesting new mechanics

And totally worth restating how lovely the game looks. The menu has you spinning the planet, as the stars streak by and the ground erodes and reshapes with the passage of time. It's just gorgeous.

Will need to check that out. It does indeed look beautiful.

In the beaten to death BTB runner department, Paper Train Rush is quite unique in its take. The mechanics are the usual lane switching, jumping stuff...but don't know of too many other games that give you sensory overload like this one. Bursting with color and the paper 3D affect and roller coaster like train tracks are just wild. One of the few games I've played on iOS that makes me a little dizzy.

The usual ad supported revives and the like but it's worth a try just to see its Candyland, toy room art and zig zagging tracks kind of mess with your mind like your on an amusement park ride. Lol.

Kind of like Subway Surfers on an acid trip.

Talking about BTB runners, I was actually thinking about the genre recently, because I finally checked out TEC 3001. Loved the sense of speed and how you're not restricted to lanes

The genre seems so repetitve and boring now; I was thinking of how the genre could feel new (or at least interesting) again. Personally, I'd love to see one take the changing levels idea from Maze Runner and make more dynamic levels (think Uncharted set-pieces), with more acrobatic parkour-inspired movement beyond the usual jump/slide.

I'd love a sequel to Blood Roofs. Still my favorite BTB runner and easily one of the most creative with a story, massive boss battles and a quite unique Victorian meets Hell setting.
