Yoshi's Woolly World |OT| It's So Fluffy I'm Gonna Die!

Got my copy yesterday and this game is absolutely amazing! Looks great, plays well, nostalgic, happy and goddamn, Duplicitious Delve is one fine tune.

Can't recommend this game enough.

So I've been really slow going through this (FFXIV HW, Steam Sale etc) and I've just finished the first world. Reeeeeally loving this.

Thanks for all the info! Sounds kind of like Donkey Kong Country Returns/Tropical Freeze with each world getting a hard level to go through after collecting all the KONG letters. Is that a good comparison then?

Yep. Collecting the flowers unlocks a special, more difficult, level for each world just like collecting the KONG letters in DKCR/TF unlocks a temple level in each world. The only small difference is the flowers in YWW are harder to find because they are hidden while the KONG letters in DKCR/TF are always in plain sight.

Ohh, I see. Sounds good to me! :) Sigh, why is this taking so long to come out in the US? :p

Got two-thirds of the boss tent and 6-S to go. Almost there! I tried to do 6-S before bed last night but it's pretty hard, especially compared to 5-S

EDIT: Knot-Wing, Round 3 sped up is curbstomping me :\
EDIT: I'm not sure I want to beat the last two challenges in this game. They're soooo hard ;_;

Yes, though it's worth pointing out that the secret levels don't get as hard as the ones in Donkey Kong. There is a similar jump in difficulty though and they have similar design philosophies where the secret levels require you to just run for it or you'll die.

Not ashamed to admit that I died to the World 2 boss a whole bunch of times.

Not sure how this game is supposed to have baby-tier bosses if he is any indication. First, you need to figure out how to dodge him, then how to hurt him and then he'll keep you on your toes by doing new stuff after every hit. As being agile in this game isn't always easy as Yoshi always takes a while to build up momentum, being hit three times definitely isn't the hardest thing in the world.

And yeah, getting some of the collectibles has indeed been pretty damn tough so far.

Bleh, I meant to clarify average individual level length for Woolly World. >.<

I think it's similar to Yoshi's Island. Each level took me between half an hour and an hour to get everything, a quick run-through takes maybe five minutes?

The boses aren't incredibly easy, especially considering you need to defeat them without getting hit if you want to get the star for every level, and their sped-up variant being quite demanding on the reflexes sometimes, but overall the bosses are much easier than in DKCTF for instance and still easier than in Yoshi's Island.

The trick with both bosses is to not make eggs. It takes too long to aim and throw. Just eat an enemy and spit it straight back out when ready.

U.S. version question: Does anyone know if the Toys R Us Game+Amiibo bundle preorder is online only or can you preorder it in store as well? Because I just got out of our local Toys R Us and the only preorder card they had was for just the game itself, I showed them the bundle listing online which seems to state in store pickup for it is available but they still couldn't confirm.

Beat the game 100% in 36 hours. So yeah, it's not some small game by any means. Pure platforming joy from the beginning to the end. It offers challenge for those that want some challenge (unlocking everything), but it's just easy enough that anyone can beat the game. I played all the stages with my fiancee in co-op, then started collecting all the missing stuff by myself as well as beating the extra levels. I'd say this game is almost pefect. The graphics, music, controls, overall gameplay, level design, challenge, length, unlockables, everything I want from a game is there in a single quality package (and the Yarn Yoshis are so damn cute, I have all three colors). My GOTY of 2015 so far.

Waited for this one pretty excited. Nintendo platformers are about the only games I can play in co-op with my girlfriend. First of all, it seems to be an awesome platformer with fresh and cool art style.

Unfortunately the co-op game-play just seems a tad forced or not so well designed. The second the other player falls out of the screen (which has very narrow fov as it is), character turns into a floating "bubble" and loses all his or hers yarn balls. You constantly hit each other with balls or eat each other out accidentally (which also results as loss of all collected yarn balls). Fun when it first happens, but turns quickly into a drag when gaming and levels gets more serious.

Just wish there was a timer before turning into a ball / camera zoom out / PIP window and some sort of "cant eat or interfere the other player" option.

M rated comedy gold?

Played level 1-7, the part where he turns into a motorcycle is super cool, rest was kinda boring.

I think I'm jut sick of the yoshi island egg aiming mechanic at this point. I got so bored of it in one level that I started skipping everything.

Game is adorably gorgeous though, the wool theme is amazing. It's like that wii kirby gamer all over again, best game too look at, but boring to play.

This was my impression, but I haven't actually played the game.

Are there actually a full game's worth of challenges for a guy who can just sit down and beat Super Luigi U without wanting to complain about the difficulty in the least?

Got my copy today, finished world one. So this game is basically Yoshi's island without baby crying, and a little bit easier.
It's been a while since I've played Yoshi's Island but I'd say you should wait a bit before giving a final verdict on the game's difficulty :p

Also keep in mind you have played and beat Yoshi's Island at this point, where so many of those skills will just transfer over into Woolly World.

Added Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario, and Olimar to the amiibo album.

Whoa, these are cool. :)

Kinda hoping that Chibi Robo is also getting a skin. :) And those 8-bit mario's... Animal Crossing ones would be too far fetched I guess...

I knew there must have been a catch with Kirby and the Rainbow Curse being released earlier in North America, while it was going to be released later in European territories.

It's always a give and take. Last year it was Fantasy Life and LaytonvsPWAA early for EU and Captain Toad and Smash a bit earlier for NA, this year it's Kirby, Yokai Watch and Code Name STEAM early for NA, and Yoshi, Devil's Third early for EU.

Done world 5, thought it was the last and didn't realise their was 6...

But level 5-8 damn that ice castle wasted so much time on it but somehow got 5 flowers and 5 wool :).

Already at World 6, and it seems there's another one with the castle. Then later another extra world obtained after getting all flowers of each world.

There are still lots of levels for me to play.

This is good to head. Like that Ninteendo have been doing these end game worlds, makes the games longer than they seem.

Have been getting all flowers and Yoshis on every level, less concerned about stamps and life.

Took me ~34hours to 100% the game but I did spend the last 5 hours or so running around, looking around for the last enemy to fill out the ''bestiary''. I wanted to hold off my impressions until I finished the original Yoshi's Island I now I can easily say that this game does not even remotely compare. There are 2 key differences:

-Controls. Yarn Yoshi is a turtle compared to classic Yoshi. I started YI (GBA VC) as soon as I finished Woolly Word and it took me a while to get used to the increased falling and moving speed. I probably died more in the second level of YI than I did in the entirety of World 1 in WW. Chaining flutter jumps actually requires some skill in YI, who would have thought, huh?

-Level design philosophy. The levels in YI have a nice baseline difficulty and the collectables require some more tricky maneuvers and exploration but they are rarely hidden in annoying ways. Contrary, WW's levels are, for the most part, way too easy and the collectables are often a source of frustration as they require you to jump all over the level to hopefully land on the magic pixel that will trigger the appearance of the invisible cloud/batch of gems that contains that last stamp you've spent the last 30 mins helplessly searching for. The worst thing is that the reward is kind of underwhelming. Sure, the special levels are some of the best in the game but they are worse than both YI's and New YI's secret levels. I really expected something more challenging after New YI's hellish levels :/
Honestly, WW kind of ruined YI for me because it conditioned me to randomly flutter jump all over the place and it took me a while to realize that YI is much better designed and does not require that.

More food for thought:
-The game looks great and is full of charm; the final part of the last special level made me a bit emotional. Did not expect that. Really wish they would have devoted as much love and care to the level design as they did to the visuals.
-The music is nice.
-Bosses are mostly meh and even get recycled. They look great and some don't have a super obvious weakness but they are ultimately just too easy.
-Most of the Yarn Yoshi designs are ugly. Ended up sticking with the default Red Yoshi for most of the game and only switched over to Game Cube Yoshi near the end to change things up a bit.
-I wish I could Yeah good Miiverse posts in-game. Some of them were really funny but there's just no reasonable way to find that post on Miiverse and show my appreciation :/ Also, stamps ruin everything; 90% of the posts are just poorly placed stamps and bit of text. Feels soulless.
-The game lacks extra content. Why can't you replay the fruit the fruit minigames and aim for a high score? Why is there no boss rush mode like in Kirby games? Why no speedrun mode?
-You can spend the in-game currency to temporarily power up Yoshi, but I made little use of it. In hindsight I really should have used the badge that makes invisible clouds visible as it would have probably alleviated a lot, but all, of the frustration in searching for the collectables.

The game is not that bad but anyone expecting this game to be YI with a yarn aesthetic will be severely disappointed. WW is more like a way better looking and sounding easy version of NEW Yoshi's Island with some occasional ingenious level design and without the awesome secret levels.

Guys. What's wrong with me? Whenever I hear World 5-6's music it makes me super emotional. This isn't right. Why does this game have SUCH BEAUTIFUL MUSIC? ;_;

I beat it last night. Definitely my second favourite Yoshi game after the seminal SNES original. It's just a game filled with happiness.

Finished the game and it's probably my favourite WiiU platformer right now above 3dWorld and Tropical Freeze. Yes, it's easier than both of them but it strikes that wonderful, almost impossible to get, point of perfect difficulty while being creative on every level. And the co-op adds (or takes out) another extra layer of complexity depending on the skill of the second player.

I don't understand the reviews this game got, I hope you americans give it some justice when it releases there, because it is so g-o-o-d.

I keep circling this thread for signs of a US special edition pre-order announcement. I'm ok with missing the boat on the Mario Maker amiibo but I need that green yarn yoshi like nobodies business. GIVE IT TO ME NINTENDO.

Emptyquoting.

But additionally, where is that Mario Maker amiibo bundle here in US?

I'm surprised to hear someone say this because I find YWW's stages much harder. I 100% finished all 54 stages in the original YI, but I'm not sure I have the patience to do the same in YWW. I find deaths more frequent and secrets more obscurely hidden. It's much harder to stay on top of health without the original game's ability to make star eggs too.

Mario Maker is what, 6 weeks away now? And NA still has nothing. The manufactured rarity of these stupid amiibo's on top of NoA's lethargy with any announcements is frustrating to the max.

And considering how poorly recent Yoshi titles have fared (especially New Island on 3DS) I would not be surprised if NoA assumes there's little demand for Wooly's World in NA and underships yarn yoshis with the games launch since this company is risk adverse to the point of self sabotage. Vicious cycle etc.

The weird thing is Toys R Us had that bundle up from like the 11th of July to a week or two after and now it's gone from the site entirely.

I nabbed a preorder when it was up and checked with customer support last night to see if it was still good since the product disappeared from the page and they claim I'm good to go, so fingers crossed?

Toys R Us has a history of cancelling pre-orders on people, especially when waves of new amiibo's launched. I remember a huge shit storm during the wave with lucario, pit, villager, and falcon where pre-orders were cancelled left and right, assurances were made by Toys R Us, and then more orders were again not honored. I would be suspicious if I was in your position.

Oh trust me, I am considering I was one of the people caught in the Lucario mess. Luckily I ended up receiving the amiibo in the end.

World 6 is a rollercoaster so far, lol. 6-1 was pretty chill in terms of difficulty, but so cool in terms of design and presentation. Then you get 6-2 which I thought was piss-poor with boring design, recycled music and way too easy for a world 6. Then comes goddamn 6-3, which is just brutal. Got my one and only "Hey, Mellow Mode is there if you want it, scrub". Not just difficult per se, also pretty frustrating in terms of progression and knowing where to go next. Really liked it, though.
