Not really. Last gen has numbers but no high purchasing rate. Several cross gen games have demonstrated that focusing on last gen is a mistake.

Sheit, I completely forgot that they completely recreated some assets for the Remaster. The plot thickens. I'm pretty convinced RE2make is happening.

I always thought that the real-time backgrounds for REmake HD were a spring board for RE2 development.

i disagree, it's really moody and creepy up until the last chapter or 2

I thought the prison camp setting was awesome. The rain made it nice and atmospheric. You started off next to a graveyard as well! I liked the mansion on the island and thought the Antarctic base was pretty cool too. The homage to the original mansion at the end was nice. Some of the story elements strayed a little too far though. Resident Evil is Raccoon City to me.

I think it's fairly clear at this point that they are attempting to make it from the ground up, given the way they're handling it and the fact that "rebirth" was in the promo image. Many portions of the REmake do appear to have been recreated for the HD release and its in the context of recent upgrades of those two GC games that this is been planned. There has to have been a moment within Capcom where they said "you know what, we can actually do this."

Yes, everything would have to be made from the ground up, but RE2 isn't a terribly large game. They'll have to work on the city, the R.P.D., the sewers, and the lab. And then just all of the in between stuff or one new area, should they decide to add one in. It's the most popular game in the series outside of RE4. Maybe the combination of these two factors have justified it.

I find it difficult to justify a PS4 purchase in 2015 as well, but keep in mind this isn't likely to come out until 2016 or 2017. So that gives some time to accumulate some compelling exclusives, a hardware revision, and a price drop.

I get the impression you don't have a PC, which would mean a PS4 or XBO purchase would be inevitable if you want to continue the hobby.

By the time RE2make comes out, the PS4 will have more games, OS features, and a price cut to justify getting one.

I wonder if they'll try to reuse some Darkside Chronicles assets to save time - if they wanted to go with a similar look to Zero and REmake instead of a modern RE game, they might be able to justify it. Imagine the RE4 RPD Leon model getting brought out again for the remake, 10 years later...

The Death Mask room, and the west wing room with the bird cage were both recreated in polygons so they could mimic the FMV lighting of the original.

Yawn's attic room is also briefly realtime for one cutscene, but it was also realtime in the Gamecube version.
