Has the video been uploaded anywhere else besides in the OP? Getting very slow DL speed from that link. Only got to see the YouTube version.

edit: nvm, found it

In terms of visuals, I think the rendering in U4 is a good bit above TR, the lighting as well. TR looks very impressive overall, but it is pretty clear to me which one looks better visually.
In the cutscenes I would agree, but in the gameplay. I think Tomb Raider looks very comparable. Granted, nothing can top the dynamics shown in the last Uncharted 4 demo but I found the exploding tomb with water squirting through it to be just as electrifying. One thing they can learn from Naughty Dog's set pieces is to give the illusion of choice by opening up multiple paths that lead to the same place.

I think that Crystal dynamics nailed the lighting and shaders in the underground caves.

With Tomb Raider, you can see the sunlight shining on Lara as it peeks through the tomb which is very impressive to me. In Tomb Raider the diffuse component of lighting is much more pronounced. The models appear to be lit by the world.

I enjoyed Tomb Raider but regretted getting it on console, so I'll wait for this to hit a Steam sale and grab it then. Kinda sad I will have totally forgotten about this game by the time I have access to it.

Why do you keep comparing it to the old demo, the latest U4 demo just blows TR out of the water, seriously dude, it looks much better, and it's much more impressive with its scale and physics.

Probably because there are no new U4 demos depicting lighting in caves.

Game looks great but the ADD scripted events with near death situations every 5 steps are really a bummer.

There's no build up or tension, it's just turned to 11 all the time. We're in COD territory. A shame, I really enjoyed the first one.

The cave part was the worst part of the already pretty old demo of U4, I wouldn't use it as an indication for the game's visuals at all.

Honestly once Drake step outside of the cave even the old demo still looks mostly better than TR (though not as much as the latest demo)

I think TR looks great and it's certainly a looker, but overall it's not on the same level as U4.

Very pretty, especially the new Lara model. I was hoping to see some more puzzle oriented gameplay, but I guess that just doesn't make for very good promotional material.
I will be eager to read what people have to say about it once it releases on Xbox One. If it's better than the last one, I think I might bite on PC if the price is right (and I'm not burnt out on that kind of game after playing through the Uncharted games for the thousandth time once the collection is out).

I'm not sure why Uncharted and Tomb Raider are compared so much. It really isn't a competition. You can play both(on PlayStation). I think a lot of the success of the reboot is direct result of the popularity of Uncharted.

My favorite thing about U4 is its mud, best mud ever.

Every further reveal makes this game look more amazing to me. I really enjoyed the last one and this one is shaping up to be even better. Day one purchase here.

I realize comparisons to other games are always going to happen, but it feels like these threads always turn into salty, dick measuring contests lately. So be it, I guess.

It doesn't 'blow it out the water' as UC4 is just moderately better than RotTR in scale and physics. RotTR also has some of the best water physics of the generation so far. Tomb Raider definitely has the superior lighting engine between the two though.

I can't see how it blows TR out of the water. It looks better that's for sure but Tomb Raider isn't that far behind and I actually prefer the lightning in TR.

Unimpressive

Are you guys watching the noncompressed version because these shots barely look good in tiny gif mode but are especially non-impressive in the full screen video.

I thought this train of crazy was full but I guess we always have room for one more passenger.

It is absolutely no comparison in any field whatsoever. TR isn't above games that are already out let alone something like UC4.

Download link not working for anyone else?

Some nice lighting throughout, and some new animations in there like Lara wringing her hair out are pretty good.

Are you serious? better lighting with that bloom? lol no.
I can't understand how can anyone see the latest demos of these games and think they are on the same level, seriously.

QB for example looks much better than TR and it gives a better fight to U4, it's not something against the XB1, TR is really not on the same level as those 2.

Resisting the urge to avatar/tag quote :p.

Anyways, I stand by what I said. Uncharted 4 is overall the better looking game but RotTR does some things better. I own neither console so that console wars bullshit doesn't really apply to my opinion (even though I will pick up RotTR on PC when I get the chance).

Gotta say that this doesn't look to be a lot behind Uncharted 4, but the physics pushes Uncharted 4 ahead for me by a large margin. I'm a little bit biased on that as the level of physical destructability in UC4 is something I've always wanted and was the most hyped aspect of The order 1886 for me way back before the game released (never really heard if any of that destructability materialised in the game?).

Your opinion is wrong though. You can argue that you like the art but technically there is nothing going on in TR that is impressive compared to any game right now.

Exactly. I feel like you guys have no context of what has already come out this gen and what is coming.

game looks great in motion... but i'm not a fan of the superhuman falls, shootouts, the constant action sequences, or the handholding for the puzzles. Takes away from the discovery aspects that made tomb raider what it is.

also her run animation is...umm.. too robotic? at the end of the video it's like she's running around with two arm casts on. looks odd.

You don't get diplomatic immunity for posting hyperbole just because you don't own the consoles related to the discussion.

It's the jerk that never stops jerkin'.

To many people, it's a competition: between those who have relentless love for Naughty Dog and those who enjoy Tomb Raider more than Uncharted.

e: those gifs up there look fantastic. :D

I find RoTR to be a looker(not as much as U4) so I don't really agree with you there.

Her character model is the only thing that is good in that whole video. That is discounting her hair which is all kinds of jank. Low res texturing and some terrible animation cycles puts this thing firmly behind all the other "lookers" right now.

This is so beyond anything going on in TR.

I feel like I'm the only person who sort of hated the first game.

Surely you've never been on a Tomb Raider 2013 thread... 50% trashing the game vs 25% meh about it vs 25% that actually like it. You're definetely not alone.

I think it is a great game personally.

I think it looks A LOT better than what I expected from only seeing the rerelease of Tomb Raider on XBOX one. It doesn't matter to me whether it looks as good as an exclusive that comes out a year later on a different, more powerful platform. I'll play Uncharted 4 when that comes out.

I'm just going to stop replying to you. You have no clue what you are talking about if you think that TR isn't amongst one of the more graphically impressive games out there, especially the lighting model (and especially the game being a cross-gen multi-plat).

I also loved the first one, I'm pretty excited for this one (though gameplay wise the latest demo wasn't amazing but I trust CD), have to probably wait for more than a year though :/

I agree U4 looks great but, as you can see, I'm not the only one with this opinion. It has its problems but saying that U4 blows it out of the water? Now that's exaggeration imo.

Can't even enjoy a Tomb Raider thread anymore with fanboys bickering which is better between uncharted or Tomb Raider, for real guys.

Anyways, the globe trotting aspect of the game makes me feel we'll lose that metroidvania aspect of the first game, which has me kinda sad.

Because we've seen all of TR. Ryse Mud was pretty impressive too...

It isn't in the top 10. No way man. I'm sorry but I feel like you guys haven't been keeping up it doesn't look better than WC3

ryse_story_6_by_raziel1992-d6qsgbx.gif

Ryse is amazing looking, one of the best. TR isn't even close to Ryse.
What will seeing more of the game prove? Will the animations and bad textures suddenly be fixed.

Says who exactly? The game looks great. If I can get those visuals at 1080p with a steady 30fps then I find that impressive.

Not every game is Uncharted ffs.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Jumps 3 meters before the end of the platform

Still lands 3 meters ahead of the next platform

I have my own complaints, but I don't think one of those blocks is 3 meters. Cause she jumps on the line of the last block and onto the line of the first block of the next platform. Couldn't be more than a foot per brick. And the gap wasn't even one Lara length.

I really dislike how they continue the theme of intense punishment in cut scenes. The demo opens with a crash in a rolling car. Then a bear trap... Yet somehow she goes on without limping.

Must be crazy then because I thought these were unimpressive on my phone but the I got the on my laptop and I see what everyone is talking about. The game looks good and its not blown away by anything from UC4 even though Uncharted looks better overall.

Big transitions could still use some work and I'm surprised she looks a bit stiff at times, but overall it's looking like an upgrade. Most impressive of all being the cutscene stuff which looks crazy fluid.
