Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

Thanks for the info.

I'm not happy by the xblaze report.i was one of those who enjoyed the first ..but wanted more answers to the story . not a recap.
I guess i'll wait a little before purchasing it.
It does give some answers, just not what you'd expect from a $40 sequel. It's mostly just filling in gaps and explaining things you already knew in a more direct way. And it gives you what is basically an epilogue that seems to tie off everything from the first game. The new characters that are supposed to be the new main leads are mostly a narrative device that don't actually get that much screen time.

I would say that the recap does give a number of answers about the original story, it's not a complete repeat. And that's only half of the game.

And... I think it had about the same amount of fanservice as the first game (which definitely had a number of shower/bathing scenes in addition to the swimming pool scene).
Yeah, I'd say the fan service is mostly the same as the first game.

Hmm, maybe I'm misremembering how much fanservice was in the first game (I only remembered a couple), but yeah, it's probably about the same, all in all.

I hate to sound like I'm just complaining all the time, but Sekai Project really needs to put out some info on Grisaia 18+. They announced it for July, and we're now more than halfway through August without a word. I understand there were issues with Frontwing, but we shouldn't have to rely on someone happening to post a log of an irc chat to NeoGAF to find out what's happening with the product we paid for. All I'm looking for us an email saying "Sorry we couldn't make July, but we hit a snag. We should be good for [August/September], but we'll keep you updated." I'm happy SP exists and are doing what they're doing, but their communication could be a lot better, across all projects.

Yep, their communication skills are poor. You can blame Frontwing for some of it, but Sekai Project isn't exactly open about their other projects either. Look at WAS which has been in limbo with SP having promised to explain why, but they never have. The long delays with WEE were never explained either. For a company largely built around Kickstarter projects you'd think they'd understand the importance of communication.

Having backed some projects i freaking agree.
I backed WAS , grisaia and others.
I liked the idea of someone trying to bring something new to the table ( even bought WEE1 )
But damn if they need to talk more to keep their fans invested.
People will understand if there are unexpected problems, that shit happens everytime. i'm now sadder each i see more project to show supports when i need more info on the project i've already supported.

I'm worried that they try to take more than they can manage and that we get nothing in the end.

Andi say this as someone who has fault, WEE, grisaia , WAs ( and more ) in their expectations since i've supported them about those projects.

While I agree that the communication can be better, it's felt like they were trying to do a bit more than they can handle for quite a while now. SP has mentioned that they've been expanding and hiring on their forums, but you don't want to hire help too late either.

For example, shipping and logistics for physical goods (especially internationally) is a huge problem for everyone and there are so many possible forms to fill out or automate.

I would like some more things said to keep the marketing interest up (which they really need to do) and that's for sure. The VN scene could use all of the new faces that it can get.

I think Sekai Project has been a bit overly optimistic about completion dates and it puts communication into a very awkward situation at times. I'm also not thrilled that they haven't given customers more information about the goods they are selling through BackerKit (or at least not getting further along with them before closing them) sometimes too. The cutoff for The Human Reignition Project is very weird given that fact.

Still, all that said, they are a younger company and companies have to learn how to do things just like everyone else. I would be amazed if they weren't selling the Kickstarter exclusive Clannad physical at a loss (EDIT: maybe not but it wouldn't be much gain). What they have done so far is GREAT in many ways. They need to remind everyone that it is by keeping up with information about important things, and not just to questions on their forums. These products can only market themselves so much, and customers should expect reasonable things such as "we're alive".

Couldn't have said it better myself. I know they have an account on here, hopefully they see this and listen.

My biggest issue with SP was promising Vita ports on several Kickstarters and then hiding behind the excuse that Sony is giving them a hard time.

As I recall, the construction of the new engine and subsequent porting of WEE 1 was a big part of that delay, but the whole point of the port was that the new engine was unity based and could be easily repackaged for Vita. I agree the communication on WEE hasn't been great, and it's funny to think I'll get Clannad before WEE.

I can imagine the issues they are having, especially with certain Japanese devs... Still, I do feel too that they've piled on A LOT of projects at once. I have no idea how they can do it all, even with freelance workers doing some of it. The smaller titles having been trickling out like Nekopara etc.

I myself totally don't mind the wait with having a ginormous backlog and a VERY busy year ahead of me. The only thing I want to make sure of is that I do GET the items I've ordered, at least at some point. It's slow and steady and some stuff like artbooks have apparently been taking them a pretty long time with working with the Japanese teams and whatnot.

But yeah trust me, I've dumped my fair share of money into those titles so as long as I have product in hand at some point, then yeah it's all good for me, at least >_>

(First off with my last post, I came off way too strong and blunt again and I edited some of it - I really need to work on that)

I'm sure SP is doing it by working a LOT of overtime hours and doing a lot of things that we wouldn't understand to get it done. It's really commendable and business can be really evil.

Things take the time that they take sometimes (and at times saying something about it only makes the situation worse), but a rose is nice only if people notice it and remember to notice it. These VNs are too good to be forgotten (although MG would be worse at that). I was seriously happy beyond belief when they made the physical Clannad copies the way that they did, but it also felt like it was a while back until the DRM issues came full circle.

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I don't mind that it takes a while. I understand that there are issues, I've got plenty of stuff to play while those get worked out. I just want them to communicate, and communicate as accurately as they can. I don't mind that Grisaia got delayed, I mind that they told us July, and then didn't bother to tell us it was delayed or why outside of some niche channels. Be upfront and honest and I'll be patient. That's all I ask.

Anyway, back on topic, apparently Sweet Fuse is on PSN flash sale. I've heard it's a lot of fun, even for a guy, so I may check it out. My wife would probably enjoy it as well. Anyone want to toss any extra recommendations or anything on the pile while I debate spending the money?

I think this is pretty big, but the Muv-Luv Kickstarter is confirmed to have a Vita stretch goal (from r/Vita), with possible PS4 and Android stretch goals as well:

That sounds really nice. Will definitely be backing this, though I don't know whether I'll go Vita or PC (assuming it makes the stretch goal, of course).

Playing danganronpa 1 at the moment
right after oogami's trial
.

I can't believe how many forum threads and image galleries im missing out on because of possible spoilers.

Besides, i went in this game completely oblivious of its plot/characters/genre.
didnt know i'd end up trapped in the school fighting for my MC's life. Didnt know it was a murder mystery either.

Great great game.

Starting playing through my Steam copy of Hatoful Boyfriend. I beat all the routes on the original PC version, but playing through for the new stuff like Anghel. Even on the regular routes they added so much new stuff! Characters like Azumi must be new as well because I didn't run into her at all in the original version. Going to go through all the routes after seeing how much new additions there are (and the fact that you need to unlock Anghel after a few endings, basically).

I remember the original creator said they would be adding the Tohri route to the PC version and looks like it'll be out this fall. Hope my save data is still on the game so I can unlock it right away!

It sounds like you only played the demo of the original PC version, not the actual original PC version. Anghel was in the PC version, so was Azumi (although she has a bit more content in the updated version).

Well yeah, the freebie PC version. I never saw it as a "demo" though, since I know you could purchase a disc version in Japan with the additions. It was still a full game in of itself.

Currently playing Saya no Uta.

I don't even know why I like this as much as I do. It isn't one of the best VNs I've read (yet) but I'm right before the second h-scene and I admire its sheer fucked up-ness a lot, it's very enjoyable for some reason. I love it.

(Evangelion spoilers!)
I haven't seen something so beautifully fucked up since the "cum-in-hand" moment of Evangelion.

This is great.

Why were Dracandros and WhirlwindMonk banned?

Presumably it has to do with a thread that has since been deleted, if you need to be more specific you can contact me directly.

Some personal bullet point news and discussion points instead:
  • I finally played some of the Sakura no Uta trial yesterday and I'm now safely on board the hype train.
  • I've been playing Princess Evangile on and off, I'm not particularly impressed by the writing thus far, though the localization seems pretty spot on.
  • I'm also almost done with Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai, and I can't help but marvel at what could have been. It's still a good game, but I feel like it's structured in such a way that it could never truly succeed at what it's trying to do.

It's been a while since I got an ending, closed the game, and realized it is 3 am.

By the way, Sakura no Uta trial isn't in English in any way, shape or form, right? I'm still trying to catch up to the genre, I wouls like to see the reason for all the hype.

So I guess I'll talk about what I played while I was banned. Well, I finished School Days. I liked it, but it's nothing special. The musicis nice tho.

Then I played Higurashi Onikakushi, which I really enjoyed, and I'm looking forward to Watanagashi. After that, I played Nekopara, which was a fun experience. Since then I didn't play any VNs until Nekopara Vol. 0 released.

Lately, I haven't been playing VNs much, since I just got into watching anime.

Has anybody played Chaos;Child? If so, was it any good? Thinking of picking it up. I enjoyed Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes.
Edit: I bought 10,000 yen PSN card to buy it, only to realise that Sony does not allow you to purchase games on PSN with anything other than a credit card... tohoho

Wait, what?

What's the point of selling PSN cards, then?

Also, from what I've heard, C;C It's pretty good, trailing behind S;G only, but it seems to have quite a few callbacks to Chaos;Head so you benefit from reading it, too.

Of course, mine's second-hand info, sadly. Can't read Japanese :/

Sorry I seemed to have missed an important part there. They do not allow you to purchase CERO Z games with anything other than a credit card. I imagine it is because they are 18+, but I don't think CERO ratings are legally binding, and you would think just proving you have a credit card would be enough, but no, you need to purchase it in full with a credit card.

All I say in this thread is I love playing VNs but I can't post anything from my playthroughs. All the recently completed games I've played to 100% are VNs (The Sagara Family, Nekopara 0, Nakadashi Banzai, Obscene records...) and is downloading cosfetish academy. Please don't search for them in google since they are pretty much NSFW.

Also I don't recommend Sunrider Academy to anyone. Please even playing the ecchi version of it wasn't worth it. It was such a slug to finish I only manage to finish one girl's route and nothing else.

i played sunrider academy demo and i didn't like it.

it's certainly not the grphics since i like sunrider, But the flow of the game is kinda ...annoying at times.

it's not the subgenre that i dislike since i've completed tokimeki games and 2 loves plus games. i don't dislike that aspect of the management.. it's just that sunrider academy rules threw me off. Yep i'll say it , my real problem ( with the game ) is the calendar system.

Isn't that game quite long ? How long did you take to reach This chapter 4 ?

It is, pretty much spent the entire day on it.

Also I pretty much never saved and the only time I did was when I was half the level the game wants me to be at when I can't really grind so I have to replay everything...makes me sad.

According to this Gamesindustry.biz article, CERO Z is the only rating that is legally binding.

Nope, and even downloading it was a pain because the Getchu mirror was (is?) corrupted :\
If you want in on the sca-ji train just wait for subahibi. I haven't actually played any of it (sakura no uta will be my first game of his) but I head great things. I'm really looking forward to it now though, going to pre-order it as soon as I get some address stuff worked out and the copies of Katanagatari I'm trying to sell sold.

I haven't finished the game but I'm on chapter 8 out of 10 iirc (game clock says ~17 hours, so like 20 with fuckups) and it's fine. It's more of a traditional RPG than the previous eternal team games. I prefer the other two games, but that's because I like the strategy gamelplay more than dungeon crawling.

The structure of the game is just terrible. I gave up on it because of how repetitive it was.

The Muv Luv Kickstarter has a prefundia up. Thankfully they've narrowed down their goal and abandoned some of the crazy stuff they were talking about a few months ago.

Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative Digital Bundle with OST
Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative Physical Bundle
Collector's Box with Exclusive Artbook

I hope that means that the physical bundle will also have the physical OST. The games, box, OST, and artbook sound good to me :)

This isn't a perfect idea but I think for the people who are fatally turned off by Extra, they could offer some kind of digest version and a way to unlock Unlimited from the beginning. Unlimited should be fine though.

This might be the first thing I'm backing. A Vita port might entice me to slog through 30h of romcom to get to Alternative.

I just hope they know what it means to develop and publish a Vita title and have planned accordingly, since there are a number of Kickstarter projects that have promised games for the platform, but have yet to deliver them.
