I try to stick to 3-5min for rest periods if I'm going heavy. Anything more than 5 and I feel like I have to get up and lift something.

I usually do 3 minutes for working sets for my main lifts, though with heavy deadlifts I sometimes take up to 5. Accessory lifts I'm usually not going as hard on so rest is usually 1-2 mins.

Can you eat brown rice instead? Big difference in the Glycemic Load between them, like 2.5x

Glycemic Index doesn't really matter when you are eating a mixed meal, containing proteins and fats. It is measured when you only eat that one food which is not the case most of the time. No one eats just plain white rice, it's always eaten with something else.

Anyway, white rice is absolutely fine. The only thing that matters is calories and brown rice has practically the same amount. It just has more fiber which makes it more satiating.

You can eat white rice. It's not gonna make you fat unless you eat over your maintenance. Of course it's much easier to go over your maintenance with something like rice compared to potatoes. You need to count your calories and make sure.

Makes very little difference if you eat it after a workout. In fact, simple carbs can be advantageous then... and it's about 20% difference in how quickly you absorb white rice vs brown. Plus, if you eat it with fibrous veggies, you can also slow down the absorption further.

Also, there's no meaningful GI difference between brown rice and basmati rice (which tastes basically the same as white rice anyway).

Edit - Beaten by despire. Need to work on my explosive typing reps.

Finally forced myself to try and go to the gym in the AM instead of PM. Got everything ready the day before, was up at 6:15, lifting by 6:40, then back at my house to shower at 8 and leave for work at 8:20. I think I vastly prefer this schedule if I can consistently force myself to get up so early.

I'm certain you can lose weight on 2 cups of any kind of rice inevitably.

That is about 90 carbs, which is probably just enough to run your brain, much less lift weights and do cardio on.

Im pretty confident the body is in a dont giveafuck mode after working out. One super shredded guy at my gym eats haribo gummies after every workout, he said he has a amazon prime subscription for a 5lb bag every month O_O
Even if he drops dead at 55 he will have lived swole and full of gummy bears.

I agree. I much prefer that schedule (although I can't lift the same weight that early)

Morning is vastly superior. The gym is a ghost town and afterwards you can be satisfied that you have already worked out and don't have to do anything later in the day.

I get up at 5:13 AM. I'm at the gym just after 6AM and out after 7AM. Then I'm at work around 7:30AM.

I've stopped going in the mornings during the week. Kinda like the extra time to do more sets on hyper days. I bill hourly so I just get off earlier and it pans out time wise because I get there before the normal post workday crowd anyway.

I might have been convincing myself I would otherwise be doing some weekday social activity after work which didn't happen.

What gym do you go to?

My gym is packed by 430AM and stays that way until about 11AM. Then picks up again after 3PM and is packed until 2AM.

The only ghost town hours are 2AM-430AM and 11AM to 3PM, lol. I literally have been at my gym at every possible time, it's kinda crazy. I need a new gym.

Really? Interesting. I didn't notice any drop in my strength today, but I chugged a cup of coffee before hitting the weights.

I've instructed my girlfriend (whom gets up at a little after six to get ready for work) to brow beat me to get up at 6:15 to force me to get on this schedule.

Yeah, it's probably just me but I just can't go as heavy at that time of day...lighter sets were fine but (approaching) PR sets were way harder.

We'll see how it goes when I do heavy 3x5 squats tomorrow... God, I hate squats.

I wonder if part of the problem is that one is still waking up a bit when doing the first sets of lifts, which in pretty much any program will be the hardest/heaviest lift(s) of the session.

It's a "pro gym" in Helsinki (Finland). A lot of normal folk also but I'd say most of the pro bodybuilders in the area go there. Good equipment etc.. My job pays for it so I'm going there. Also it's quite near my work place.

Ok it's not literally a ghost town but there are so few people that it's a non-issue. Maybe 10 +-3 people plus me and my GF and it's a pretty big gym. Which means that you can pretty much do whatever you want when you want because there's so many pieces of equipment. Multiple benches, racks, cables, whatever machine you need etc..

It starts to pick up after 7AM but the first hour is pretty quiet. Then it gets a bit quieter again when people get to work after 9 or so. Haven't been there in the evening so can't tell how it's then. I once went after 2PM and it was literally packed. Never again. Too many bodybuilders who are either personal trainers or bouncers or something else I'd guess, meaning they don't have normal office hours and workout when they want to.

Nothing like going to my gym at 6 am and looking at how empty it is. I love mornings during the week and then on the weekend I tend to go a little bit later.

Mmmm, up .8 this morning. Every time it's 1s week I trend up in weight. It's weird. Whatever, looking forward to the gym today. Lunch time gym is awesome. I've been at all times of the day, going at noon is my favorite. I'm not much of a morning person and going at night thrashes your life.

Finished up my 7th 531 1s week with DL last night. Hit another DL PR, but it was tough. Did 230x5, 260x3, 290x3, 305x1, and 320x1 (PR) @ 144 lbs BW. Took a shit ton out of me lol.

Flying down to Tampa today to spend the next 5 days visiting my good college bud. All rest, beach, and good food coming up. Prob gonna gain 8-10 lbs by the time I leave lol.

Haha I dunno about all that. Will prob have to drop the weights down after the next cycle, they're getting rough. Have already had to deload on squats and OHP, bench and DL are getting close to that point too.

I'm so glad I'm not the only ultra lightweight fucker here. :D
And this is the only place im really even comfortable talking about lifting due to my size. Skinny guys talking about lifting openly tend to set themselves up for jokes/comments. Annoying, but that's how it goes.

"YOU lift?!"

Ugh...lol

Get outta here with this nonsense. No one ever asks you if you lift. Not buying it.

Dang those are some harsh coworkers.

I am usually more afraid of the 'smaller' guys, and girls because they lift so much relative to their body weight.

Meanwhile I am over here struggling to do bodyweight shit.

Is there a point where breaks between sets become "cheating" of sorts? I need 3+ min between these squat sets, but saying I did 5x5 seems like a bit of BS having taken such long breaks (up to 5 min).

I was taking like, nearly 10 minute breaks on the tail-end of my 5x5 routine to get my squats. It's not cheating if you can still lift the weight.

Gym went great as usual. Deadlift with 5x320, 3x360 and 1x405. Went up real smooth and felt real good. Just bench left and another 531 session done.

I've tried joining in on conversations with the guys here at work that lift. They had some pretty crappy remarks/questions to send my way.

Dude, you're shredded...unless you wear carhart coveralls to work every day, I think people would notice. Do what Coot suggested lol.

Yeah, you need to get on that slim fit game for your dress shirts and dress pants (if possible). Don't be wearing the shirt tents that most people do in business casual environments.

I agree, classic fit shirts are a thing from the past now. Also I think it is best to spend the little extra money to get Non-Iron shirts.
