What if I couldn't get into Ground Zeroes at all. Is there any chance I enjoy this?

If you like games, logic and common sense say that you will like the game.

But you know... GAF.

you still would need to complete past games, or else you wouldn't know what you are listening..

Ground Zeroes has very low history bits, juts about 2 cutscenes and some tapes to listen, you can easily find them on youtube to keep up to date. the most relevant thing is that final cutscene, I could say you can jump after that with no problems

EDIT: the final cutscene was even somewhat spoiled in the trailers

This is an incredibly badass story on how open the sandbox experience is to the point it becomes a movie where you as a player have full agency with. Games that the likes of Uncharted and any other AAA title would spend millions on pre-defined set-pieces now given unlimited scope to how the player choose to engage with. *no spoilers*, but this is the kind of thing that is literally the direction Deus Ex and Thief have laid the groundwork on if they were given next-gen specs to work with. Many other reviews also attest to their own personal sandbox experience narrating their own stories:

NO QTEs.

NO SCRIPTED EVENTS.

PURE 100% PLAYER DRIVEN EMERGENCE.

Fucking boss! The true open-world experience that I've been waiting for all this time.

Yeup! This it's the type of thing that gta hasn't done enough with. Over the years they've gotten better, but most if the missions are largely quite linear

I just finished the entire series directed by Kojima, Sans 4, but until now, I've never completed 1 or peace walker. I started with mgs1,and this time I completed it in two sittings. After I beat it, I feel like it might be tied for my favorite. I felt like I was experiencing it for the first time and it gave off the feeling of the beginning of something epic. Then, I played mgs2,my other favorite, still as good as ever, if a bit short. I wish more time was spent with some of the characters. Like after you beat the Game, let us play snake and fight fortune and vamp. But still, the Game is timeless in both its story and visuals.

Mgs3 was never a favorite of mine, and I guess it's because of the whole bond style. I like bond movies but not that much. Either way, the Boss is the real star of the show.

Then I played peace walker for the first time seriously. I played the first few missions on psp when it released but never got into it, but seeing as TPP is very similar, I feared if I didn't like pw I wouldn't like TPP. Now, I'm so happy I gave it another chance. Pw has become tied right up there with 1 and 2. I never got bored of it, and the idea of a more tactile and fleshed out mother base management has me frothing at the mouth. I 100% finished ground zeroes, whose gameplay is my favorite above all and am ready for TPP.

Sorry for block of text, I'm on my phone and literally just finished pw,and I didn't want to start a new lttp thread right before release.

I've played all of them. Used to be my favorite series. Despised MGS4 and couldn't get into the gameplay of Ground Zeroes. I found it unintuitive and it just never gripped me. I want to like MGSV, I just wonder if I can anymore.

Watch some funny videos of ground zeroes and then give it another shot. After you figure out the depth of gameplay and variety of ways you can tackle situations it becomes something amazing.

Btw has anyone got the 2014 E3 60fps gamersyde trailer archived and also the 22 min 2014 gamescom demo? Both vids are only avalable as streams now. much appreciated.

If you log in you can still download them. Yeah it's badly explained, I'll fix that one of these days.

I'm so ready for Monday night! I beat Peace Walker earlier this week and I just wrapped up Ground Zeroes to refresh my memory! I'm so excited for Phantom Pain!!!!

Am I doing something wrong or is this game just really friggin huge?

Man, I'm not a Metal Gear Solid fan, but what I've been hearing about the world and gameplay has me REALLY interested in this.

Only Metal Gear I've played is Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. I'm interested in buying this next week though. Not sure how lost on the story I'm going to be, or if this would be a wise purchase. Maybe I should wait for the hype to die down a bit.

I'm going to go to bed, wake up tomorrow and hope V has come to (my flat.) If it hasn't, I'll probably cry of boredom all weekend as I'm a big nerd with nothing better to do.

Just played for a couple of hours (the opening and the immediate mission after that). The gameplay is fantastic and that introduction is breathtaking, bold, and incredibly entertaining.

As I said I've only played a couple of hours so I'm not even out of the tutorial yet, but immediately a couple of my fears have been realised, most pertinently the mission-based structure and its effect on gameplay and story. I feel very put out by the credits before and after each mission. I think it cheapens the effect of the game as a whole, and unnecessarily makes the entire experience feel disjointed. So far I've seen 'Written and Directed by Hideo Kojima' three times, and I really hope it stops so that I'm not constantly taken out of the immersion.

That's all so far. I'll post again tomorrow with a few more thoughts.

You must not play very many games because it's not even close to being the best looking game on consoles. I'm still trying to understand how you could think this.

Opinions, how do they work?

They said best looking, not best tech.

Aesthetics are all opinion at the end of the day, but I'd have to agree in that MGSV looks for its time similar to how MGS2 did. The lighting, animation, and style are very natural, and so don't jump out at you as being omg so amazing, but at the same time, in quite a few years, I imagine MGSV will also be like MGS2 in that it will still look stunning, and perfectly capture its intended style, while other games you will look back on and go, man, I remember when I thought that looks amazing, but now all these things jump out at me.

Even now, I can play MGS2 and it looks great, minus the faces. A perfectly rendered box will remain a perfectly rendered box for a very long time, where as a neatly rendered box with a bunch of cool effects on it might age and those effects will become more noticeable with time.

Like Conker's Bad Fur Day. The fur looked amazing at the time, but now it looks kind of neat in that I know the techniques used to achieve it and it doesn't look realistic at all.

Maybe I'm fanboying, so Pinch of Bucket of Truck of Dumpster of salt.
