that is a lot of character profiles on the battle screen. 7 player party?

These are fun to play and I dig the battle system and OST. I play these in spite of the goofy looking characters and will continue to do so with SO5. I hope the wait is not too long between the Japanese release and the Western release.

Environments look really nice, and 7 person battles sound interesting. And, maybe I'm weird, but I like pink hamster girl's design.

All that said, I've never been able to enjoy a previous SO game, as the characters and stories are always super bland. Not much evidence that's going to change here....

And that's the good thing. :D

Need more to compensate for the lack of JRPGs in the PS3 during 2006-2010

JRPG doesn't have to mean "silly, garbage character designs". Really, you have to put in extra effort to create character designs this bad. I'm not going to pretend that my favorite JRPGs of yore didn't have a lot of bad designs too, but, well, tastes change. They should know that a bit more sensible designs could surely attract a decent number of ex-JRPG fans who have been "growing out" in the last few years of Loli/Moe trash in the genre. And at the same time better designs would not stop current JRPG fans from buying it either. So, win/win, no? :p

Maybe I'm wrong, though, and they really can only break even by targeting the Japanese otaku audience primarily. Don't be suprised, though, if this great resurgence of JRPGs this gen will ultimately fail to be successful enough to sustain in the clearly more important Western console-market nowadays because of these stubborn design-choices. I'm not saying they should give up their "Japanese-ness" and start making WRPGs (which are equally ugly 95% of the time, anyway). Just tone down the unnecessarily pandering, over-designed crap.

Ah, maybe I just have to except that JRPGs aren't made for me anymore outside of FFs. Some days it makes me sad to "let go" of my once favorite genre, some days I see new JRPGs and can only shake my head, swearing that I'm done with it :D

Now you know what it's like to be that old man yelling at a cloud.

Wow, the game looks pretty great for a cross-gen game, I'm surprised. Too bad the characters design is garbage, at least most of time you only see their backs.

Whatever Reserve Rush is, it has to be very important. Dude filled 5 of it and got 475% of extra EXP.

It's just like the bonus battle gauge/bonus board in SO3 and SO4 respectively, it seems. But going by the image, it seems like less bullcrap than the bonus board. Stupid gem tetris.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that from SO3 (never played 4).

Yeaaah, I hope it is as simple as it looks =X

Yeah, for whatever reason I really like the figurine-like models, it's similar to what Capcom is doing with SFV. It's just the design that sucks, I was going to pass on the game due to this, but I changed my mind. The enviroments look way better than what I expected, I like the models style and the battle system is going to be hectic and crazy.

Looking really good. The gameplay was always good for all entries, so I think the only thing they need to get right is the story.

A good JRPG seems to be coming along.

I figured I'd hold out at least another year, but I'd buy a PS4 for this.

Is that a water based attack on fish-type enemies?

Eh, I should probably not overthink things and just stare at her butt.

O_O

"Deep Freeze". It's an Ice attack.

It's quite normal for games to let you use ice on water-based enemies...

I also don't really use symbology (magic) in SO games, so idk if there's elemental affinities going on.

FFX HD doesn't, and they had two chances to insert it in there. Based on some of Tabata's comments, it doesn't seem like dual audio is going to be included in XV either.

What? The demo even had dual audio. Lightning Returns had it as a separate DLC for free for the first few weeks. Type-0 had it on-disc.

Game looked great to me, can't wait for the English release. 7-man battles are going to be entertaining.

I'm looking at the history of the series' localization now, it's weird, SO2, 3, and the PSP remakes had huge gaps but SO4 came out at basically the same time. Granted I don't think that means much.

Still, this is definitely earlier than expected.
Didn't Microsoft publish SO4? If not I know the game came out during the time where MS was trying to push the 360 as THE JRPG machine. I think that's what contributed to SO4 being released in the west within a few days of the Japanese version.

It's been a while but wasn't it based on what kind of attacks you did? So at least it wasn't totally random.
