It is still selling though (above GS2) but 40,000 is unlikely. Flyhighworks (I think they're the publisher, I'm too busy to double check atm) reported that Urban Trial Freestyle is at 100,000 too btw. That sounds too much. IIRC, it surpassed Gunman Clive a few days ago, and that was around 140,000 copies sold a few months ago. And it's not yet in the All-Time Overall top 20. Also, I doubt GC sold 40,000 additional copies in the meanwhile.
In the meanwhile, Super Mario Maker is now 6th in the All-Time Overall Wii U Charts. It just surpassed Famicom Remix.
Thanks for this detailed post. It is really interesting and I hope you get the time to translate your full report someday.I was really busy these days, but I wanted to talk about my visit to Tokyo Game Show last thursday.
GamesMaya invited me to the business event and I attended to many meetings with the publishers.
I wrote the full event in spanish, but is very long and it took a some time, so I'm lazy to translate everything in english. So I only did translated the sales related things.
If you understand spanish you can read the full report here:

Capcom Meeting
According to GamesMaya pre-orders for MH Cross are lower than MH4 Ultimate. But since the release of MH Diary they increased, so it was a nice timing for the game release. The Capcom's member wanted to know why consumers are not pre-ordering as much as before.
Maya answered:
- They're still playing MH4U and they don't feel/need to jump to a new entry.
- They think it will be better to wait a possible next year's MH Cross Ultimate entry with full content.
- They don't like the new gameplay changes.
- Some want the game on Vita lol
Capcom will work to satisfy users and will promote the game properly to attract more users.
Square's meeting
The Square's member talked about Dragon Quest Builders. He said that DQ fanbase is 30 years old (average). And he added that Minecraft is very popular among kids. With that game they're targeting both players, and they're expecting great results.
Maya complained about the price of the game (taxes not included):
PS4: 7.800¥
PS3: 6.800¥
PSV: 5.980¥
She said that Minecraft price is around 2.500¥ and is mainly aimed to elementary school students. So the Square game price is too high for kids. She wished for 3.900¥ price for the game or 4.900¥ at max. She is not that confident as the SE staff member.
She added that pre-orders opened two days ago and for the moment just the Vita version had some. People prefer to play this kind of games on a portable system.
Regarding Star Ocean V, the Square member said that the third version sold around 500k, but the IV entry sold less around 300k. They want the series back to the half million level. They heard that Namco Tales of Zestiria had bad word of mounth because it wasn't a full game, and part of the story was split on DLC. They don't want to make the same mistake, that's why SOV will be a full story game, without DLC containing part of the main story.
Meeting with Konami
Maya said that pre-orders for Winning Eleven 2016 are low, but Konami's member said that this year's entry improved compared to last year. So they expect word of mouth to do the job.
Secret Meeting with Sony
The director of the videogame department came, but he didn't allow me to stay at this meeting since they were going to talk about unrevealed games and the future of the company.
Maya couldn't explain me anything either. But probably some of bombs were showed there.
I had meetings with Koei, Sega and Namco too. But not much information saleswise. Again, if you can read spanish you can access to the full report and some pics on the link above.

Thanks for the details! Wonder what Sony had behind closed doors....
And I wonder what was in Sony's secret meeting. Clearly not anything about Vita. Even GamesMaya said that gamers prefer titles like this (Dragon Quest Builders) on portables, but that recent interview with Yoshida, all he could talk about was how he hoped it would get some of the younger users onto PS4; rather than trying to expand what they have on Vita. Sigh.
WKC3 closed theater?Secret Meeting with Sony
Thanks for the details! Wonder what Sony had behind closed doors....
WKC3 closed theater?
Level 5's PS4 game is not WKC3. I refuse to believe they would go to E3 and unveil WKC3.
This is probably exactly what the meeting was on, lol. Sony wants to move its audience from Vita and PS3 to PS4. Though I'd have to wonder if retailers agree here or, like with the DQB example, they aren questioning the strategies being laid out and needing reassurance. It'd be interesting to have seen if there isn't some push back from retail with regards to the Vita's treatment from Sony considering it carries a good chunk of retail and hardware.
I don't even see why that would be a secret, they've been pretty open about it since last TGS really (i.e. revealing titles like Senran Kagura & Ys as PS4 games, with a small logo noting it's also on Vita at the end). Exact same thing happened this year pretty much.
Interesting point about the retailer pushback though. Sony are doing the bare minimum for it (i.e. new colours this week), wonder if that is enough.
This leaves retailers asking the question: "Why would anyone buy a PS4 or buy this title on PS4?" and that's when you bring up reassurances, you discuss the affects of a price drop, and you discuss future titles that you believe will swing the ball in another direction
I'd have been interested to find out what reassurances Sony can throw in for things like hunting games or VN's - genres which have found their bigger successes on handhelds and don't seem like a particularly great fit on consoles.
Game Videostreaming and VR (Virtual Reality) were major attractions
The next TOKYO GAME SHOW is scheduled to be held in Makuhari Messe from
September 15th to 18th (Thursday to Sunday), 2016!
I was really busy these days, but I wanted to talk about my visit to Tokyo Game Show last thursday.
While that's true, there's still the ongoing Vita/PS4(/PS3, fading) release style going well into 2016 and potentially even early 2017, and the retailers are likely much more in-tune with their customers and customer demands than Sony for the region. And so while Sony is positioning "Vita staples" as PS4 games instead with the hope of moving its audience, a retailer may look at that and say: "The fans on Vita won't buy this on this console. They want it on a handheld." There is a very real scenario of losing your market with the death of the Vita that Sony may not be doing anything to alleviate or counter.
I'd say this actually sort of all lines up if you think about it from Sony's perspective of wanting everything on PS4 but retail and, potentially, developers not agreeing on the viability short and, potentially, long term without a handheld. Sony pushes for PS4, retail and (not necessarily) developers push for the Vita version. So we have a PS4/Vita version of just about everything coming to market. This leaves retailers asking the question: "Why would anyone buy a PS4 or buy this title on PS4?" and that's when you bring up reassurances, you discuss the affects of a price drop, and you discuss future titles that you believe will swing the ball in another direction (like, say, DQXI... which I'd find funny if some retailer then asked "But what about the 3DS and NX version?"). (Successes in Asia will not, for instance, make retailers in Japan happy even if it makes Sony and developers happy.)
Even with the Vita outselling the PS4 (YTD and LTD), its not outselling it by that much and its slowing down at its 4-5+mil lifetime, and its software is holding largely flat-ish. But as the Vita fades, you hit the same problem as the 3DS fading: its 13% of the market at retail and potentially more at digital (and whatever it has left of the PS family's kid ties with Minecraft that the 3DS/mobile hasn't eaten up). The 3DS fading has an obvious successor plan lined up that is market aligned, the Vita doesn't.
If the Vita trails off to 5mil and loses its support and family line, and the PS4 continues it sluggish trod. You're facing a potentially very large market contraction for the PS family in Japan and in the eyes of retailers.
There's also VR but, if the other thread is anything to go by, the price tag is going to be high and potentially crippling this gen. (And this may actually have been part of the "secret meeting". Its a new product coming to market soon, and retailers need to be ready for it but Sony may not be comfortable releasing pricing information to the public yet.)
PS4's YTD is over 165k higher than Vita's
Wow, thanks very much for that Hiska. Was a really good read!
Any chance you can tell me what happened in the Koei meeting at all? Would really appreciate it. Only if you have time ofc.
There you go.Hiska en Español said:Meeting with Koei Tecmo
We started talking about the new Attack on Titan. There was a giant head on the stand.
I asked for when the game would come out and they told me that is planned for winter. They plan to release it as soon as possible, but due to the lack of a release date it seems it'll be released early next year rathern than on the holidays.
Then we started talking about Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII, as its the 30th anniversary of the series.
Not much else to say about that.
We moved on to NiOh, we saw some footage of the game. Its planned for 2016, the game is exclusive because its aimed at the Bloodborne audience and the Dark Souls III audience, fans of this kind of game have made jump to PS4 and they plan to use that.
The game's been in development for 10 years but its on its final stages now.
We then moved on to Hyrule Warriors Legends, its coming out on January 21. Maya would open preorders for the game after returning to the store.
After that we talked about some Gust games, like the new Atellier Shallie and Yoru no nai Kuni.
We ended with Arslan: Warriors of Legend, a musou style game based on the Arslan anime.

Wasn't there already an all-in one package for DQX? Or is this including the expansion that released during Golden Week? Also, where did you find that info?

Half million for SOV in Japan? That will be hard.
Wait? What happened to Yokai x Sangokushi? Wasn't this game meant to come out 2015?
You would think they would want to release the AoT game alongside season 2 of the anime.
Yeah I don't see it either.
Did we ever get a date for DQX on PS4? Did they not talk about it at all at TGS?
Wish we had inside info on that Sony meeting. I want to know what their plan is for what looks like a single system future.
Not giving up hope for a NGP though.
According to its website, there is no a release date for the game yet. My bet it's an appearance within a Nintendo Direct, though.
