NES or N-E-S?

I've never heard anybody say it as one word.

I, and anybody I've talked to in person, spell out the letters. Just like how people spell out S-N-E-S, or just say super nintendo.

If someone said it out loud as one word I'd would stare at them funny.

N-E-S. Each letter stands for something, so you should say each letter individually.

I'm 32 years old and have never heard "Nez." "Nes," maybe, but not "Nez." That couldn't be further from being correct. Reading "Nez" is leaving me completely dumbfounded and somewhat angry. What the hell is that?

NEZ?!

EDIT: Yeah, I always have and still say "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo." It's not hard to use full words.

N E S.

Sometimes Nes when I'm lazy.

Never Nez. Not sure where that abomination originated from.

While we're at it, may I reiterate how much I hate the word 'Ninty'.

Also 'Shmup'. Gross. They're shooters.

N-E-S or "the Nintendo"

Super N-E-S or Super Nintendo. Nobody really ever used "S-N-E-S" (or any other variation of that abbreviation) out loud as far as I can remember.

I never heard anyone ever use "nes" or "snes" as a word until I heard them used on the internet at some point over the last decade or so. I never ever ever heard anyone use either term in the 80s or 90s.

N-E-S now, but called it Nintendo when it first came out.

Super Nintendo from day one.

I'm from Canada, near the New York border.

80s kid from the Atlanta area - we said "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo" and "N64" or just "the 64" but later would say N-E-S and Super N-E-S.

I don't think I'd heard "ness" until I got to college.

Just because kids in one town/country called it one thing back then, doesn't mean that was global.

I've seen this discussion many times over the years, broadly while NA kids pronounced it N-E-S and Super N-E-S or S-N-E-S or even Super Nintendo, UK kids called it NEZ/NES and SNEZ respectively. Five syllables was a bit much for the playground :D

I wonder if the UK pronunciation was also helped along by popular use on our games TV shows of the time like Gamesmaster and Bad Influence.

I vaguely remembered Dominik Diamond criticising people who called is the SNEZ on When Games Attack if i recall correctly

I always say/said "N.E.S." More often in person I say "original Nintendo" or "Nintendo 8bit" and people know what I mean.

I know some say "Ness" and that's fine, I don't really care. But to my mind, it's "N.E.S."
