Assassin's Creed: Syndicate leaks early, PS4 impressions not... great.

This needs to be put on blast:

Dozens of YouTube LPs and other early video impressions show what game is actually like, post-patch. No threads on GAF, nothing.

One Reddit post from account created an hour before post says game sucks, admittedly playing pre-patched version, uploads no videos as proof of impressions. Immediately posted on GAF despite Reddit posts not being threadworthy, accepted as ultimate confirmation of everyone's preconceived opinions about the game.

It's simple. Those YouTube LPs, with people who have been given the game by Ubisoft, are considered less valuable than even the potential impression of someone who has gotten the game early. Rightfully, I'd say.

And there are plenty of Reddit accounts that are only created when someone has something to say, so I don't know what that has to do with a person's credibility. If it were fake why wouldn't someone use their existing account to bolster there Reddit cred? What would a newcomer have to gain by creating an account outside of sharing an impression?

IMO this is a good thing, i think this is the last AC we will get for a while. It needs a serious break for them to sit and figure out where things went wrong. From that report it sounds like they tried to tone down the pressure Unity put on systems to increase performance but none of that worked. So with another batch of resoundingly bad review from the press AC should finally get the rest it deserves. To be brought back at some e3 in the future when they finally give us Assassin's Creed: Japan

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Even if it was coming from just some random dude, i'd believe it just cause of Ubisoft's development practices with asscreed.

I don't understand, FarCry never has these kids of issues, but for some reason Assassin's Creed just can't stop being...so disappointing

What all went wrong with Syndicate? I haven't read any reviews or played it for myself.

You can watch the actual game. There's like 4 or 5 hours worth of footage. Or are you saying that the game you can watch isn't the real game?

One of the things I've learned over the years is not to post impressions seconds after rage-quitting a game. Otherwise, it'd seem like I think Rocket League is the worst game ever created.

The Asassin's Creed factory never stops running, as such it's easy for the games to run in the wrong direction. Something like Far Cry has the benefit of releasing and being able to work the response to the game into the sequel.

I mean, I could. What I've seen is in line with the impressions of this guy. The game doesn't seem impressive, at all. The graphics seem notably worse than Unity, though the performance is better. Building navigation, with the grappling hook, looks clunky.

What's your point?

I see a lot of people talking about a "year" of development, it takes them longer then a year.

They simply have multiple studios working on the series. They do not have one studio rush through development in a year to make the entire game, they shuffle it around so one game is in development 2-3 years at one group, then another game is being developed in another studio, then they stagger the release a year or so apart.

THAT is why you will see some AC games that are "missing" things that worked good in another one before it., etc.

Personally for me, this series has just gotten really old and REALLY repetitive.

The whole "collect-a-thon" that they fill the world with instead of actually filling it iwtih INTERESTING things to find and/or discover.

I mean imagine if they made AC more like The Witcher in terms of world design. Where you have quests and npc's to find and discover. No stupid "towers" to climb over and over and over.

Then there's the combat......the boring easy as pie combat. I hate it the same as I hate the Batman series combat (and I do not see how ANYONE can say the batman combat is good and say AC combat is bad, it's virtually identical).

It just has 0 depth to it, it's not fun to engage in because you never really feel in danger or like you're being skillful, it's just fancy animations dressed over a super-simple combat system.

Black Flag was a decent game because of it's naval aspect, and it got a lot of people excited for where the series might go after that, and then they just go back to the same ole same ole and wonder why people are bored of it.

You're right - it is simple. I am talking about dozens of direct-feed footage videos of people who obtained the game early, not review copies sent by Ubisoft. Street dates have been broken all over the place. I typically watch these on mute, because LPs are annoying, which still lets me observe the actual game itself. You, on the other hand, are talking about a single Reddit post who has no video proof of his complaints and openly admits to not installing any patches.

So, yes. Simple.

I've played it for three hours now and it definitely performs better than Unity. Yeah, it's not saying much, but I'm quite enjoying the game. There's also significantly less pop ins compared to Unity.

That's fair enough if you don't like what you've seen.

My point is that it doesn't matter how they got it or if their opinion is biased, you can use the streams to judge the game by watching it.

Well, show me the footage of someone who has gotten the game early, and not from Ubisoft, and I'd value those opinions too if they're sharing them. Make a counter thread about those, or at least show me them so I know they exist.

Precisely. The cool thing to do these days is to crap on this series, even though the installment prior to Unity is fantastic, which came out only two years ago.

Your also conviniently forgetting AC3?

2 out of the last 3 games in the series have been bad, and AC4 was only saved by the pirating bits, the actually assassin bits in that were also lackluster.

Maybe, Wonderful 101 looks much better than it plays.
This series you can judge by footage most likely, but not all games.

I miss demo discs honestly...

There is not going to be a "break" from Assassin's Creed because Ubisoft needs the money that the franchise brings in annually. Unless they find some substitute for the amount of revenue that AC brings in, it's not going to end.

Personally, I think this game looked ok but it's coming out in a year stacked with games. Was anyone looking at this as a "must-buy" besides die hard fans of the series? As for this guy's impressions, they sound pretty damning but I wasn't keen on buying this or really any AC game at launch. This franchise is always on sale around 20 bucks or so in 6 months or less anyway. Seems about right if it's going to be another glitch fest.

The grappling hook was the one aspect of the game that would have sold me. If it is as fustrating as Reddit guy says, I doubt they will be able to fix it.

Lold hard.

Was there anyone who expected this game to be good? I really hope it absolutely bombs so hard that Ubisoft will be forced to drop this franchise.

There is no salvation for this game until it takes a loooooong break and goes back to the drawing board.

They take literally seconds to find on YouTube, or in one of the other active threads on GAF's first page. There is a reason why the search function is encouraged before posting.

But, seriously, what is different about the game if it's sent by Ubisoft? Is it a different copy, somehow? If I'm watching these videos to just observe the performance of the game itself, does it matter if the copy was obtained via broken street date or as a review copy?

Apparently you disagree, but I will always value watching footage of actual gameplay over a single anonymous Reddit post that backs up none of its claims and admits to installing no patches.

I am buying it Friday. Mostly everything I have seen with my eyes on Youtube and Twitch tell me that this is a solid game. I love the setting and the series so I will enjoy it.

I am getting it Friday as well. As you said everything I have seen so far make it a solid game.

I am hyped for it.

You lold hard over one random guy's comments on Reddit? You could check out some of the gaffers who are playing the game right now and dispute what this person says or you can keep on loling

The grappling hook feels like a cop out in a game based around parkour. It was the last fun thing about AC (even though it was mostly automated it was still fun watching the animations) and now you don't even have to engage with it... and they STILL managed to half-ass it with its glitchy implementation.

As much as I'd love to see a repeat of the Unity glitch thread (for the comedic value), I'll take this post with a grain of salt.

Can anyone remind me when the review embargo lifts?

I don't think it's very productive to put much stock into a game by judging a buggy unpatched copy. I'm sure there will be a lot of people bitching about their buggy pirated copy without the day one patch in a few days; but for everyone else, it'd make sense to wait for the day one patch before judging.

I have seen footage, and these impressions are in-line with what I've seen. And they'll probably be fixed with patches. So I don't know what the big deal is.

If these patches are out for some players then maybe their impressions will have more value. So, are the patches out already?

Unity had problems even after the day one patch.

And there are pirated games on Xbox One?

I'll be interested in seeing release day impressions, maybe there will be a day 1 patch to smooth some things out.

Syndicate being bad will be the least surprising thing ever, though. Assassin's Creed has been trash for years now.

There is already a day one patch, which every pre-release player (must be hundreds, if not thousands of them now) have downloaded, except this guy.

This guy based his experience off the pre-day one patch - which should be fine, but every other person who has posted impressions says this guy's experience is abnormal.

Why is nobody educating themselves about this? People are literally just jumping on a bandwagon of unnecessary, vitriolic hate and pessimism.

I'm a giant critic of the AC series, but this shit is just uncalled for.

Yes, and several such players in two threads (the "40 minute demo" one and the "Assassins Creed Syndicate" one) say that this Redditors experience is nothing like their experience. They say it's a step down from Unity visually, but far more robust in terms of simulation, with limited/low scale performance dips.

Edit: they also say the gameplay is far improved and that new mechanics like the grappling hook are good. They say it's still on the 'meh' scale because it's an AC game, but it's a step above Unity.

They also say the scale and standard of the gameworld is a gamechanger, a big step up from Unity.

Well, fair enough. I won't even ask for the receipts on that one.

They really need to reboot this franchise with a compelling storyline that connects every game together. Desmond's arc was by no means great, but it kept me interested enough in the story to continue playing.

That was my problem with Unity. I stopped halfway because it didn't feel like the story is progressing at all.

It's amazing how AC4 can be such a great game due to the pirate setting and meta games with the ship/islands, and they completely toss all that shit in subsequent games.

That brand is being profoundly mismanaged right now.

No offence to the person who created the topic but why on earth are we putting so much emphasis on some random guys impressions when we have several people here on gaf that have got the game early and are giving their own impressions?
