Nintendo CEO Kimishima says Direct is alive, with at least one coming this year

One for Xenoblade (or Paper Jam) and one to tie up the loose ends like Yokai Watch EU date, Paper Jam US date, confirm TP HD and maybe Rhythm Heaven localisation. At any rate, great to hear they're still a thing officially, but not expecting too much in the way of major announcements.

Still waiting for the other game of the Gen6 to be announced before the end of the year and released at the beginning of 2016 ?

It's a possibility, but this is by no means the longest gap from game release to next game reveal so who knows when it'll be

I'm glad they'll do at least one Direct before year's end. If it's about what's coming in 2016 but without talking about NX, I expect to finally see that infamous Zelda U footage they're holding since E3 (if they didn't prioritize Twilight Princess HD, of course, but if they announce Zelda's 30th Anniversary they should talk about the two games).

And some updates on Star Fox Zero, Pokken, #FE and hopefully more Super Mario Maker DLC content.

I can't wait!

Was honestly not expecting this. We're pretty ready Nintendo. Any day now.

It's alive!!

Damn it's crazy to look back on this gif now.

Great news. I hope by "at least one coming this year" he means "a Direct is coming next month".

I would prefer it to be announced next year and released around September 2016.

Gen 7 will be in 2017 regardless of if the next game is in February or September :p

What do you think it'll be like?
I know, but the release date in 2017 could be different depending of when the final Gen 6 game is released next year :p

That's a subject for a different thread. I don't want Pokéfans jumping on my throat here. xD
Their big end of the year Direct last year was in the first week of November. I'm hoping for the saem this year as well.
Hopefully!
The gif was made long before Iwata died.

Maybe we should photoshop Miyamoto or Reggie in there instead.
Or Kimishima, the current CEO :p

Well I disagree with that. I can see why you think it, but it has not been the case thus far.

*shrugs*

At any rate, I think Pokémon Z will be released early next year. Hopefully Battle Frontier is back or something as cool as the BF is introduced, so I can get excited for the game

Btw, do you have any predictions for Gen 7?
MK8 dlc. Believe.
I am still waiting for the Kirby DLC pack they never promised.

I won't lie, when I first heard the news of Iwata's passing, I was hoping it was all just a hoax so that they could re-enact this gif for real. Sadly that wasn't the case. :(

What would be amazing is if he recorded one secret Direct that would re-enact this, but then broadcast it posthumously.

Iwata dropped bombs. What will kimishima drop?

Bad spinoffs and quick cash-ins? :p

I wonder if the lack of Directs just mean they didn't have anything to show. Their fall lineup is rather mediocre. My 3DS purchases aare all Nintendo games released long ago that are dirt cheap now.

Nah. Don't need that. MK8 has enough content as it is right now.
It's better when they focus all their manpower on MK9 so they can release it in the first two years after NX launch.

Nah, not going to happen because they're actually focusing all their manpower on a new F-Zero, built on the MK8 engine. Believe.

Thank jebus.

I'd be really upset if TP HD was officially revealed via some randomly uploaded youtube trailer. Lacks the punch of a direct.

They don't have anything to show...for Wii U and 3DS.

Most of their devs must be working on games for NX now.

Plenty to show for wii u and 3DS. Still have tons of games coming out, tons of stuff left untold about those games. Some unannounced games to be revealed I'm sure.

They'll keep releasing and making games until each successor is released. Even if NX replaces Wii U *AND* 3DS next fall (which I don't see it replacing both, but it could happen), we will still get more games summer/fall up to release. Zelda U is constantly reconfirmed as a Wii U game (even if it makes it cross gen, there's still stuff to reveal).

Yeah, that gif was made far before Iwata died. Steve Ballmer is in there, goodness.

It continues to be a hilarious gif.

Bear in mind, we thought the same when the Wii died. Yet the 3DS had a huge drought too.

while the launch games didn´t grap the mainstream like intended, Pilotwings, Nintendogs and Steeldiver were followed by OoT3d and Mario Land 3D+Mario Kart 7 ready for its first holiday season in 2011.

I don't think it can be assumed that Kimishima will host the Directs himself, although it would be great for his image if he did. I think Iwata was unique in that respect: a PR personality and a CEO.

Anyway, I'm pleased to see the Direct format return.

For Wii U:
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival
-
Star Fox Zero
Pokken Tournament
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Legend of Zelda U

Am I missing anything? Hardly 'tons' of games, and nothing that is really going to set the world on fire either. From all indications Mario Tennis has been thrown together quickly and is pretty lacking on features, or anything that sets it apart from previous games in the series anyway. The Animal Crossing spinoff was almost definitely made alongside an NX game imo. Pokken and SMTxFE were both co-developed with outside teams, meaning those devs are working on their own games as well. Pikmin 4 is a possibility for Wii U I suppose. Twilight Princess HD is all but confirmed at this point, and my guess is that it was made to help pad out the drought before NX launch next year.

3DS has even less 1st party stuff coming, although I do think there will probably be some surprises here. Rhythm Heaven localisation seems likely too, if only to help fill the gaps. Luckily there are a fair few 3rd party games coming this and next year that will help too.

No more Xenoblade directs please, there's been more than enough footage of the game already. I really hope XCXNX doesn't have such a drawn out release such as this.
