I'll go console day 1. Then in a year or 2 when a nice selection of mods builds up on PC. Experience the game again, massively enhanced.

These weren't released by Bethesda. They were leaked by someone who has an early copy - probably without the inevitable day one patch - and they are in the terrible jpeg format.

Ahh well that sucks. But still, part of a games selling point is its visuals. Otherwise no one would bother pushing them further.

Well, that's pretty ugly indeed. Hoping to see some PC screens at high settings, I will most surely get the game anyway (waiting for reviews) since I love Fallout but man, it should look better than this.

A day one patch won't do miracles. Don't expect graphics quality to be much better than the leaked screenshots even with a patch.

"PC > console"

Not shit, but did that game look like at launch and how long did you have to wait for the mods to make it look like that?

No way in hell we're getting graphics mods.

Exactly, not like those mods are going to immediately release. Until they do, it doesn't matter. By the time they do, this game will be cheap on PC

Given that these are highly compressed JPEGs, I expect the game looks much better now, even without the patch, assuming you're actually playing the game. These shots are so compressed I can hardly tell details.

Well the graphical discussion seems pretty well publicized and cited across the board from what I can tell

I imagine when the time comes for the NEXT Fallout game they may look into shaking things up a bit

Devs hate to ditch what they know and start over. They dev time for this game was already pretty long and thats just them iterating on their previous entries

It doesn't look that bad you guys my god. Although if frame rate ain't stable this thing can burn🤓

It looks bad for a proposed next gen game. I expect higher IQ and textures and the right lighting and shadow work to be there in full. Otherwise this might as well be a half decent remaster.

gamebryo

since Morrowind lol

Skyrim used a modified version of gamebryo... this game uses I guess a modified version of that, the creation engine ...
still it's fucking time for a completely new engine. I wish they would you something like the cysis engine

At this point I figure it's easier for them to work with gamebryo for this type of thing. Not better performance-wise, but maybe it's a better workflow.

Just out of curiosity: Why don't you go PC day 1. Play the game with higher details/60fps and then return in a year to replay it with mods? This way you also do not need to rebuy the game during a steam sale.

Yep, that coffee cup screams Bethesda seal of quality

oh come on. They improved the coffee mug.

Fallout 3 is the most I ever played a game I did not like. I have no idea how I pushed myself through to the end of that game. There was no fun, no charm, nothing. Ugly world, bad art, ridiculously repetitive combat. This looks a lot like Fallout 3. Will not touch,

I think it's interesting how the lack of media has driven people to speculate Bethesda is affraid to show the game off, and not actually part of their pre-release plan. Bethesda announced the game on their own terms, and the release date they set was of their own choosing. If the game has problems they could have easily not announced it at E3 or set a release date for next year instead of having it be so close to the announcement. Not following a traditional release cycle doesn't mean the game has problems, especially when it's been clear from the beginning that they want to keep as much of the game secret as possible.

Is that a PC screenshot of F3?

I like that F3 screenshot a lot better aesthetically, but I actually enjoyed the yellow tinge that the game had over the largely filterless and probably more realistic look of 4 .-. At least as far as looking at these vistas are concerned.

In more immediate environments, I think F4 looks pretty fine for what it is.

You know, a sign of maturity is being able to enjoy something and still criticize/critique it.

I loved TW3 to hell and back when I played it earlier in the year. It'll end up somewhere atop my GOTY list. But I can still talk to you for hours about all the problems with the game. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it the game.

Grow up.

I can probably go through this thread and pick out some of the stupidest negative comments over what? Some screenshots for a game that hasn't been released? And judging them over a console screenshot? You act like this thread is of the upmost intelligent discussion.

How about you google the definition of critique then come back to me. Lol grow up, wtf?

Oblivion's reveal footage was incredibly next-gen. SO next-gen they completely pared it down to run on consoles and then nerfed the PC version as a result.
I remember being incredibly impressed by the physical movement of the (intricately modeled) chains in the prison cell, and the detailed shadows they cast on the walls.

No such things in the initial release version of course.

I await the mods that get made for console.

There won't be any mods on consoles which make the game look better. No 4096x4096 texture mods, weather mods, lod configs, fov edits, etc. Although there will probably be mods on the console which are more gameplay related.

Just went back to watch the Microsoft E3 conference footage. Holy crap, Bethesda are as sneaky as Ubi when it comes to pretending PC footage is console footage. They're on completely different quality level settings.

The highly compressed jpeg argument again that will magically enable shadows, geometry, texture resolution, AO, and other bells and whistles that are standard in late 2015 with the magic of a .png.

(This is someone who snagged an early retail copy and, they are not that compressed either.)

Most games can't do this and have a decent frame rate. It doesn't matter how good it looks if it plays sluggish. Nex gen is current gen for the past 2 years😜

This is reminding me of BioShock Infinite: looks gorgeous from a distance, but don't get too close and start analyzing textures...

Really disappointed in how it looks

That really pisses me off

You know theyre not exactly impossible to make or implement.
but bethesda simply won't let them pass so at to not look incompetent.
with pc's they have the 'consoles held us back' excuse.
but theyll be left red faced if a console version ends up looking much better than how it looked at launch .

I really doubt it will become really cheap within 3-4 months. The mod tools come out early next year, and from looking at the dates on the Nexus I think it only took less than 2-3 months for some of those really popular ENB mods to come out after the launch of Skyrim, actually the ENB mods started appearing in 2011. So yeah, we'll just have to see how quick the modding community works things out this time and I'm pretty sure the graphics mods are separate from Bethesda's tools.

Yep.

I wonder what "card" is next after we got a png shots that looks 5% better than those. lol

Let me correct what I said earlier. Am I willing to overlook sub-par graphics because I will enjoy the game regardless? Yes. Should they get a new engine so these games don't look so bloody dated? Absolutely. The next Elder Scrolls shouldn't be using this engine but unfortunately it probably will. Mods will correct this but it shouldn't be left to them to bring your games up to speed.
