Lack of shadows in a lot of areas look really weird but I guess they disabled some shadows in the console version for whatever reason

The character animations look... Really bad. I swear some of them are directly from FO3/NV. I don't think higher graphic settings are going to fix that in the PC version
SSAO looks absent or the user playing in the videos has cranked the gamma way up. Even boxes laying on the table have no shadow at all, looks really bad. Compression in the videos is also really high so texture details are gone.

That said, it would be truly sad if Bethesda decided to skimp on the assets and ship this game with med-high res textures because their shoddy engine couldn't handle it.

finally looks pretty smooth running around in third person. lighting indoors looks "soft"? but everything else looks clean enough, im excited!

The art is actually really good, it's weird no one is really talking about that. I think the concept art and the actual visual style a pretty well realized. As for the graphics, it looks good to me in spots, looks a little rough in others, but I feel that has been most of my experiences with Bethesda games, just give me that damn world building.

I agree. It still looks good and way better than fallout 3 to me. I'm not concerned about any visuals, the artstyle to me is appealing. Pleasantly surprised how good it looks on xbox one actually. To each their own though. Looking forward to this...

Jesus, all those re-used copy paste indoor assets from Fallout 3/NV. The same metal boxes, the same terminals, the same med-kits, the same tables. Engine also has the same jank/judder going on while moving. Will need PC mods to fix it.

I think the theory that this was meant to be a last gen release is spot on!

It's set in the same world in a similar post apocalypse timeline, who is going to have invented new computers and what not in that world in that time?

35 seconds into the third video, is this shadow distance (building up in front of the house) a joke?

Also dog animations are ridiculous.

They look literally like the same low poly models.

A lot of janky animations in those clips.. Enough that ai feel like it will ruin some of the enjoyment of the game for me (and reflect in review scores).

This game may well have started out as a cross-gen title, but I think the art style looks gorgeous enough to carry it. Maybe if I was playing on consoles I'd feel a little underwhelmed, but for PC modders this is a fantastic base to start from. Skyrim modded looks stunning, and Fallout 4 is looking significantly prettier than Skyrim did at launch.

I think it looks fine.

haha good posts combo :)

I don't think it looks good but I like how the cartoony artstyle clashes with a post apocalyptic theme. I never played the Fallout games so I don't know if they went for a different style than usual or not. Fallout 4 is on my wishlist anyway.

Fallout 4's PBR implementation looks lazy as fuck. Almost like they switched midway and simply slapped on the old textures and called it a day. Not seeing any good use of reflection roughness either, everything seems fairly uniform and 'cgi'.

Of course, it might be intended for the art style they chose.

Glad to see that somebody else sees it. I wouldn't call it lazy, just really ineffective. Too many objects simply look like ad-hoc specular and diffuse maps. There doesn't seem to be any consistency to the materials, the thing most associated with PBR.

That doesnt make sense and people should stop making such excuses...

Just because MGS4 has a model of Metal Gear Rex, that doesnt mean they should have used the MGS1 Metal Gear Rex model....

I think it looks great, I don't care about texture resolution, the graphics look good enough to me. The animation does look janky, but for a game with this much atmosphere and depth I know it won't bother me when playing. Didn't bother me in the previous games so why would it matter this time.

After playing The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight it's really hard for me to feel immersed in a world that aims for realism with such poor graphics and animations. It feels like a remaster from a PS3/360 game. Not sure if I'll be picking this up.

Fallout 3.5 indeed. But surely some people will still be happy, seeing as they are happy to play the same Assassin's Creed's of the world every year.

I have a feeling F4 will have very mixed reviews...there will not be a free pass this time.

For real. They should've built a new engine from the ground up for this generation. Looks too similar to Fallout 3, which was 7 years ago.

One can only hope that they wont get a free pass again, but I seriously doubt that...

The reactions in this thread alone pretty much guarantee a mixed response. I remember the F3 / FNV pre-release reactions well and they were completely different in tone.

Looks like a typical Bethesta game so I will probably play it for a while, enjoy what is there, piss off some NPC that will kill me as soon as I enter the town again, give up and never play it again.

I really think there is a good chance some site, EG in particular, may be pretty harsh on F4 if it hasn't moved on from Fallout 3/Skyrim. Right now, it doesn't look a whole lot different other than a graphics upgrade.

I was on the fence for this from the start and nothing I have seen so far has convinced me it looks that great.

So i want to plan my starting build so i can get that over with quickly and actually start playing, you start thr gsme with 15 points that can either be used to raise a perk or raise a level in special, right?

They seem janky in retrospect but Oblivion and Fallout 3 were amazingly immersive games for their time because they were the best looking games of their type back during a time when no one else did that style of game like they did.

It's 2015 people, they have some rough competition now from games like the Witcher 3 so making excuses for the graphics doesn't fly like it used to back when there were no other games like it. Visuals impact immersion tremendously for people, videogames are a visual medium after all.

So is it a waste to start off with a 10 in any said perk because of bobble heads / freebies?

Because I'm thinking of starting of with a 10 in charisma.

Also, how much of an experience bonus would I get for each point I put into intelligence? Would I hey a good amount if I put 5 points in or should I put more?

Is there Dogmeat friendly fire? I hope not since it looks like he will dart in front of your shots from time to time and I dont want to accidentally kill him.

TW3 doesn't even remotely have the same freedom Bethesda games have.

This sounds a bit like projection, and too your other comment, using neogaf as a barometer for most release is usually not that wise. Also, are you comparing Fallout to Assassin's Creed, wow.

Graphically it looks fine, whatever. Not amazing at all but totally fine to me.

However after playing and loving FO3 years ago I think I got kinda burnt out on the formula. To the point I played about 2 hours on NV, hit a bug that crashed and lost my save and I just didn't bother trying again.

So while graphically I think this looks acceptable I haven't seen anything that interests me gameplay wise. Im working my way through the ps4 version of wasteland 2 at the mo and feel its a more appealing fallout game for me.

Have to see what the reviews say I guess but I'm not seeing anything new here really. I'm not interested in the build your base stuff either.

I remember the reactions to Skyrim screenshots vividly, and they were identical in tone. Skyrim then went on to become one of the best selling games in history.

Turns out that even though Beth games are lacking in visual splendour, their gameplay is insanely fun.
