I'm genuinely surprised that people can't seem to be arsed in taking footage directly off their xbox ones/ps4s and just uploading directly. I mean, how bloody hard can it be rather than all these potato cams ?

Maybe the dude doesn't know the system has that feature? Not sure...lol

This isn't correct. Mutants are a result of being dipped in the FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) that was being worked on at the Mariposa military base in the years leading up to the great war. It was a secret project whereby soldiers where exposed to the FEV which was supposed to increase strength and intelligence in soldiers.

After the war a doctor by the name of Richard Grey was exploring the now devastated military base and accidental fell into a vat for of the FEV. After a number of weeks in the VAT he was reduced to a blob but retained consciousness, he was also able to morph his being with other living things as well as computer terminals, He is known as The Master and the first Super Mutant who went on to create an army of other super mutants by exposing them to the FEV.

Other mutated creatures such as Deathclaws and Nighstalkers are a result of the FEV being released into the atmosphere when the bombs hit the Mariposa military base during the Great War.

As for the Brotherhood of Steel, they were founded before the Great War when a number of soldiers stationed at the Mariposa base found out that the FEV virus was being tested on human subjects. Headed by Roger Maxson, the rogue faction declared the desertion from the army and set up The BOS.

The Enclave was also founded pre-war, it's basically just a collective of the US Government who made plans to protect themselves in case of a nuclear war. When the immediate effects of the Armageddon had passed they would resurface and attempt to bring back America to what it was before the bombs dropped.
Aren't most mutated creatures a combination of FEV and radiation? I think I read that in the Fallout Bible. I've never been fond of the whole FEV thing anyway. It's fine for backstory of the super mutants, but mutation purely through radiation is much more in the spirit of 1950's sci-fi pulp.

I'm actually worried that this new system will spread your choices even more thin, what with like 300+ perk points and 1 point/level.

It's nothing a patch can't address tho should it come to that.

Where are you getting 300 from. Its a 7 by 10 "grid" (so 70) and not all have multiple ranks as far as I know

There are 275 individual Perk ranks total from SPECIAL Perks, not including any Perks earned outside the SPECIAL system (thus not really a consideration in terms of leveling resource allocation).

Some of the creatures are also a result of genetic engineering like the nightstalkers and the cazador

I always hated that video. How is deliberately setting your dog on fire even remotely "intelligent"? Very glad the Radiant AI was scaled back so much, because a lot of the examples just looked terrible, when it was supposed to be showcasing the concept at its best.
Dude, they didn't scale it back, it was removed from the game. Like, that entire sequence is scripted, with nothing dynamic about it at all.

Bethesda has more or less been iterating on the same game and the same engine and the same general way of doing things ever since Oblivion. They experiment a little, but it's (apparently) basically the same thing again. It's only now that this is suddenly outrageous and unacceptable.

People want them to improve and not coast their way just because they know it will sell regardless.

The feature might just be blocked until embargo.

Or it's just easier to record potato quality than go through the process of uploading to Youtube, and then to vid.me

Besides, "screw you, you'll watch it anyway because you are desperate" also seems like a good reason.

To be fair, I agree with you but I can understand them too. Because I do think it's good to get more people interested in the genre. And I think it is a really snobby/snotty attitude to bitch about the casuals and how they are ruining mah games!

At the same time some of us who really like the genre also like more complication in the game (RPG fans in general don't care for their game to be simple but want to have to balance a lot of stuff. Part of the fun is all the preperation and logistics in the game). So it's nice to get more people interested but at the same time it sux when it feels a game you like is getting simplified.

I think in the end people need to realize Bethesda cannot take this long making a game and perfecting it and make it this big and not have it appeal to a lot of people. It's just not feasable to spend this much effort on a game for a more niche crowd. Enjoy it for what it is. And support smaller RPGs that are going to be aimed more at the niche crowd (like Wasteland 2). It is what it is and honestly, so far even when more aiming a more general audience Bethesda still makes a fun game (though flawed ;) ).

I completely agree with you on that one! I mean like I said there is valid criticism for this and I get why someone would be pissed over certain things. But I was talking about other posters who basically just shit post and feel superior because others may not like their beloved complex systems. I mean I love them too (and they bring back some good memories) but there is no point in acting like the poster I've first quoted in my post. I absolutely hate this attitude. Nothing wrong with enjoying simplified things. Doesn't make you less of a human being or dumber or whatever. There's also nothing wrong with liking complex and strict RPG mechanics. I guess you get what I'm trying to say here.

The dialogue stuff is what I worry most about this game. I'm hoping it is at least acceptable. I'm hoping at worse even if it isn't the other stuff I'm excited about the game will still have me enjoying it despite the dialogue. Though I admit if it isn't, I won't be able to completely overlook that, it will sadden me. Because dialogue and talking to NPCs is my favorite thing to do in an RPG honestly. And I love having skill and speech checks in dialogue (and also outside of dialogue. New Vegas had a few areas where you had to do a skill check without talking to a character. I wish Bethesda games had more of that honestly). I just love skill checks that don't have to do with combat.

I totally get that! Let's hope that the dialogue system doesn't turn out to be bad (or at least not that bad!). The last leaked video actually makes me optimistic. I do think that the spanish dude mentioned that there are indeed checks? Like he encountered CHA checks which were coloured red/yellow indicating the possiblity of success.

And Rockstar are judged by separate standards.....Why? GTA really hasn't changed much since San Andreas. Same formula, more dense (pointless?) content, slightly improved visuals.

As was said there's some 275 within the Perk Chart including Ranks. Then there are over 100 Magazines in the world which impart unique perks as well. Plus who knows if there are Perks acquired through specific actions and story choices. Plus Bobble Heads. So there are easily over 300 perks, if not closer to 375.

Actual decent conversation in this, starts at 1 minute in, nothing special. Volumes pretty low, but it's doesn't look all that bad. If you look close you'll see a few responses are Yellow and get replaced with news after being used.

Ohh and the first minute shows off some decent cloth physics.

I thought someone said that when you selected a dialogue option the rest were gone, but he could choose all of them there like before?

Also that must be the big quarry from the announcement trailer?

If they get away with stiff animations and other quirks it's because they're making a type of game that no one else makes and on a scale that no one else does. They're doing something that only they do. Before you point out whatever other open world game -- No.

Pretty much. Honestly, I got Skyrim at the beginning of when I got my PS3 (in 2012). I hadn't really paid much attention to non mobile gaming for a long time before that (as I only had a PS2 and decided for budget reasons to just be happy with games on my phone).

I played Skyrim... I was totally enthralled. Read criticisms, agreed with tehm that would make it better. Have tried other games and haven't found any other than Bethesda games and Obsidian's game using Bethesda's engine that match anywhere close to the same joy I get out of Bethesda games. To be fair I did like Obsidian's take over Bethesda. But that's cause they took everything I love about Bethesda games (that you can't find in other games) and improved on the stuff I wish Bethesda was better on. I mean as much as I love Bethesda games, I love Fallout New Vegas far over the Bethesda games I've played (but part of why I like it is that it borrows what I like about Bethesda games). I want another Obsidian Fallout. But other than Obsidian using Bethesda's engine, I just haven't played any game that really gives me the same feeling/immersion.

Bethesda has their flaws, but their games are more than the sum of their parts and as a whole, no one else makes a game like it.

Their RAGE engine is pretty good. The changes it has undergone since San Andreas are astounding. Goodness, Slightly Improved visuals?

I don't rate GTA V that highly either. I'm bored of their formula.

Dude, they didn't scale it back, it was removed from the game. Like, that entire sequence is scripted, with nothing dynamic about it at all.

I know that part was scripted, but it was supposed to be an ideal example of what Radiant AI could achieve, and it looked awful to me. Who would set their dog on fire? Didn't seem even remotely impressive.

Radiant AI was present in all the previews of the game though. You can find plenty of them online still. You could do things like steal all the food from someone's house and watch him go to the store to buy more. But they had to scale it way back to the form we saw it in when weird stuff started happening - like you'd turn up to a town and find almost everyone dead. Civil war broke out while you were away over... who knows what. The system broke far too easily.

Could be a bug. Or maybe it depends on where you take the conversation. If you're rude to an NPC maybe they'll just say screw off and stop taking to you.

Yeah it's a bit more complicated was going to say something but didn't want to be rude. I didn't know based on playing 3 and NV I had to read wikis. Even the vaults weren't built because of the bombs. Well not most of them. It was all just gov testing more or less.

Correcting isnt rude. And I have no problem admiting I was wrong about something lol

Also that new video in the quarry with the conversation looks completely...fine. Dude goes through all the dialogue options just like before.

I actually wonder if some people think, when they see the dialogue "wheel" with short sentences, that that's what the character actually SAYS and not just a abreviation for, I assume immersion and less clutter on the screen?

Also real talk, that dude in the white T Shirt that he speaks to is Nick Scarpino's doppleganger.

So in that case, maybe we should be putting a screenshot of Oblivion up against Fallout 4 and see where the debate goes then. I'm sure the difference in visuals would be pretty astounding.

My point is, being stuck in the past and hamstringing developers with uninformed, arbitrary and usually pretty naive yard sticks that they have to achieve to somehow earn our money from us is a dangerous path to go down.

I think it depends on the situation. Sometimes it's like AP and TellTale games where you get 4 options and you better choose the one you think is most important. Other times it's like old times and BioWare games where you can pick and choose. Which is why people should probably wait until we see more of the actual game to make such snap judgments.

Yes. Hell thats the one thing even people shitting on it seem to agree on :p

yeah sorry man, certainly wasn't trying to be rude.

All the dialogue wheel negativity seems to be nonsense, I think people are just basing the entire dialogue system on one conversation you have literally right at the beginning of the game. Other gameplay shown seems to alleviate the qualms most people have.

Are there any story or major spoilers in those 20 minutes video?

Depends from what leaks it's cut together. There has been at least one rather major story spoiler in one video and then plenty of general random roaming with stuff like side quest objectives etc. shown.

Lol. This is just as ridiculous as the people saying FO4 isn't a significant visual improvement over FO3.

Oblivion was the last time they really pushed technologically in nearly all aspects.

Again, you werent rude. And i liked teading that information. My feelsbadman comment should have been a clue i wasnt upset :p

Also the little conversion video from the othet thread if you want to judge for yourself if / how butchered it is or isnt. Low volume so crank those speakers

Very light spoilers, seems to be just a random side quest

Better quality, still off screen stuff, video on power armor action; https://vid.me/Q9j2

Spawning of that deathclaw is so scripted it's not even funny, I guess they want introduce them as mini bosses for which you need PA to even have change of survival.

I'm really, really hoping companions still give temporary perks, but going off of Dogmeat, it doesn't appear to be the case....which, although I understand makes a better 'pick who you like', it also gives less credence to a 'spend some time with this NPC' component.

And going off of that logic, I'm not too sure we'll see choice/quest-ending related perks either...

Seems hugely improved from what I've seen and read. Apparently one of the people who've been leaking footage have said that it's quite easy to play the game without having to use VATS

Really? Is GTA V really all that different of a game from GTA IV apart from the city it is set in and some slightly improved visuals?

I'm of course not factoring in Multiplayer, as it seems nobody gives a shit about that anymore.

Xion_Stellar

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
So after reading the whole thread the impression so far seems to be that Fallout 4 is basically Fallout 3 with a make over and all the corners cut off.

About as much as I expected after seeing the dialog system in the initial reveal and reading that they ditched the Skill system.

I'm still going to buy and play this game but I really hope that Obsidian Entertainment (or inXile Entertainment for that matter) are allowed to make a new Fallout game one day.

Power Armor being "vehicle" is hardly negative when considering PA lore. I'm excited to get actually powerful PA's that require maintenance, but turn you into walking tank.

Edit: Always found it goofy, even back in F1 and F2, that PA is basically just another armor that you slip into back pocket of your jeans.
