Is it safe in here?

Gamers have been an interesting bunch as of late. From the "Taken King" and Halo 5 are only 5 hours long" noise to the "Dog is on fire", it is hard to get excited about anything anymore in the discussions leading up to the releases.

I mean, i just read the last page on the other thread and there is another dog on fire post. I feel bad for the devs having to read this stuff which negates all the hard work and unknowns that are likely to fill the game with an amazing experience.

So far Fallout Gaf has been really great in here and we have been extremely patient by answering the same questions over and over. Just please don't be bringing major story spoilers in here marked or unmarked.

Well it's not exactly a safe zone sort of speak but the people in here are content with discussing the lore, the things they are looking forward to, etc. So yeah, not a lot of negativity in here. But that also means it's not quite as popular right now.

Better quality, still off screen stuff, video on power armor action; https://vid.me/Q9j2

Spawning of that deathclaw is so scripted it's not even funny, I guess they want introduce them as mini bosses for which you need PA to even have change of survival.

I assume its the bit from E3 where he comes from the ground hatch or something?

The whole thing looked like power armor tutorial even back then

Legit question for anyone that has seen early videos. Do you find the dog easily, like is it scripted / part of the early introduction

I need mah dog man.

Yeah, I feel like I keep threading into deep waters whenever I come into this thread. I'm scared that shit in all of the other fallout threads makes it into here. I hope none of that spoiling crap or graphics crap or any other BS makes it in the ot next Monday.

People should be free to talk about the technical shortcomings and what-not at length but I really hope it's relegated to a separate thread to keep whining to a minimum.

Not scripted, but what I can tell it's next to impossible to miss doge. It's super early into game.

Again, you werent rude. And i liked teading that information. My feelsbadman comment should have been a clue i wasnt upset :p

Also the little conversion video from the othet thread if you want to judge for yourself if / how butchered it is or isnt. Low volume so crank those speakers

https://vid.me/aA8m

Very light spoilers, seems to be just a random side quest

The video makes me feel optimistic since the dialogue systems seems to be okay at least!

Also, I agree that the other thread is a mess. I don't mind different opinions but the shit posting is pretty strong imo. I mean you see posters saying things like "we are discussing the negative points, it's valid criticism" which is perfectly fine and then after three pages you see the exact same posters shit posting hard.

As soon as you leave the vault, walk around the immediate area until you see a Rocket symbol on your HUD. Dog is waiting for you there.

I disagree. GTA V has Tennis, yay. I play GTA to play Tennis.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Man, it does look rough. I think it's pretty obvious that this is/was a last gen title that got a fresh coat of paint for the new consoles.

tbqh I don't really care that it doesn't have next gen quality graphics. I sunk so many hours into Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas strangely Skyrim didn't click with me. I hope Fallout 4 clicks with me. I need a new game to sink hours upon hours into.

Really? Is GTA V really all that different of a game from GTA IV apart from the city it is set in and some slightly improved visuals?

I'm of course not factoring in Multiplayer, as it seems nobody gives a shit about that anymore.

Relative to the context of the visuals only being 'slightly improved', yes.

Can't believe people would expect improvement in something they purchase? Crazy!

Whether or not it is a staple, mediocrity should never be the standard in anything.

The shooting does look much better though, I agree.

Bethesda games will have jank animations until the end of time

Good. I need my dog buddy simulator. Gives me feels ;_; I actually never found dogmeat in FO3. Is that weird? Like was it super obvious and I just missed him? The only companion I remember using in FO3 was the super mutant dude. I dont think I used any companion in New Vegas if thats even possible.

Also, real talk, Fable 2 is one of my favorite games ever...because of the dog.

I love dogs

Man, I can't wait. Every few years this team releases one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

Looking forward to seeing how this stacks up.

I'm on your side in the TES defense force, but GTO is still huge :)

TBH, fans that came into FO3 due to Bethesda, or those that prefer it to NV will find plenty to enjoy in FO4.

I think most people who are interested in the series and even those who are on the fence will still be able to appreciate what it's trying to do once they actually you know.... play it. Themselves. When they buy it. Which they all will.

But now is not the time for reason. Now is the time for bold assertions on the culmination of millions upon millions of dollars and half a decade worth of work based on videos taken from a potato.

I like the PA changes. It requiring energy/fuel just makes sense. And it's something you use to get shit done. Not to casually stroll in the woods.

I totally agree. I was going to PM a mod to see if I could open a thread so that all Gaf members who want to discuss all the technical disappointments and spoilers would get closed or not or if it would be allowed but I decided against it. I wouldn't mind creating a thread but I wouldn't stick around for the it.

I feel that there should be a thread for game performance and technical issues, and one for spoilers so that every other thread wouldn't get shat on by those topics.

That thread exists and its the 20min video thread

I can't handle the wait any more. Seriously, I've been doing nothing but pressing F5 on this thread the past two days.

The hype got to me to and I finally went back to the NV copy I had for 360 for months. This actually made me appreciate the slimed down dialogue people are complaining about; after a while I stopped giving a fuck what they said and would just skip most of it. People who are complaining about graphics need to go back to the fallouts on console and get a good reality check.

I am going to love it as long as we don't have the crazy loading screens or combat clunkiness from last gen.

i'm trying to avoid spoilers and such so I haven't watched the vid, but can someone answer this question:

Are areas that should be well-populated actually well-populated? I remember hitting the strip in New Vegas and being pretty disappointed.

VATS stopping time too. It is now just slowed down.

You can also only have one companion whereas it was 2 in NV

Whether you see that a positive or negative I guess depends.

Hmmm... We'll have to see about VATS I guess. It's a balancing issue, but I can see RPG "traditionalists" not liking it.

Companions have always been a bit of a mess, so maybe this is for the better. Still, a bit of another downgrade. Especially when the companion animations haven't improved one bit.

This is not new. In Fallout 3 there were a number of the super huge giant mutants (whatever they're called) but one of them (and likely the first you'll see but not necessarily) was spawned in a very structured, scripted way in the main story missions.

Naw he was really easy to miss. I don't think I even went to where you get him until like my third playthrough. And the only reason I got him then was because I needed him to find where the hell Firelance fell.

CLOTH PHYSICS? YES!

I know it's common in other games these days but I was almost certain this game wouldn't have them like most past Bethseda games.

That's a nice surprise, I really hope they have a good selection of dusters and other jackets/coats that make use of them (maybe some cloaks too..., be a vampire of the wasteland lol).

Not sure if missing doge is weird in FO3, I never went looking for companions in FO3.

Like Machina said, FO4 doge is located
@ Red Rocket station that seems to be very near Vault location and early into game

Pretty much. Honestly, I got Skyrim at the beginning of when I got my PS3 (in 2012). I hadn't really paid much attention to non mobile gaming for a long time before that (as I only had a PS2 and decided for budget reasons to just be happy with games on my phone).

I played Skyrim... I was totally enthralled. Read criticisms, agreed with tehm that would make it better. Have tried other games and haven't found any other than Bethesda games and Obsidian's game using Bethesda's engine that match anywhere close to the same joy I get out of Bethesda games. To be fair I did like Obsidian's take over Bethesda. But that's cause they took everything I love about Bethesda games (that you can't find in other games) and improved on the stuff I wish Bethesda was better on. I mean as much as I love Bethesda games, I love Fallout New Vegas far over the Bethesda games I've played (but part of why I like it is that it borrows what I like about Bethesda games). I want another Obsidian Fallout. But other than Obsidian using Bethesda's engine, I just haven't played any game that really gives me the same feeling/immersion.

Bethesda has their flaws, but their games are more than the sum of their parts and as a whole, no one else makes a game like it.

I feel the same way.

I agree with a lot of the criticisms levied against Skyrim. The combat is terrible, the random dungeons get repetitive, the vanilla UI is a war crime, the exploration relies too much on waypoints and map markers which makes it feel artificial, and in general it feels like Bethesda "consolized" the hell out of the game. Despite that, Skyrim still provides a kind of role playing simulation and sandbox you can't get in any other modern game, at least any game with its production values and especially on consoles. Of all the major first person games being made these days Fallout and Elder Scrolls are the only ones that fully feel like immersive sims except maybe Dishonored and Deus Ex HR. In the AAA space Bethesda get's the "you can do anything" in a way the other games just don't.

Fallout 4 looks like it's going to be more "streamlined" and a little more like an action game. There will probably be big things about it I won't like, but I'm just hoping it maintains that unique sandbox feel. I want to be able to have various systems smash together in unexpected ways, find unexpected solutions to problems, and in general just have a bunch of emergent gameplay come about.

At least I see Bethesda took some input from id and MachineGames for how to make a first person shooter. I just hope that in the future it takes more input on improving its games' flaws.

Lore? Youtube ShoddyCast. It's on season three and covers the lore and past events really well.

I think it's called Storyteller made by ShoddyCast.

Watched the videos, and it looks pretty good to me. The voiced main character is a big improvement in my book, also the brighter atmosphere (couldn't stand the endless green/brown soup that was Fallout 3). Not a super graphically impressive game but it does look fun to play. I'm not even a particular fan of the series but I'm excited to play this in a few days!

Okay guys, help me out.

I can either go PC or Xbox One for this game. I've run the tests and from what I can tell my PC meets the minimum requirements but falls short on the CPU and GPU side for recommended. I have a GTX 660 1.5 gigs, think that'd be enough to decently run the game? I have no problem capping it to 30 fps, I just hope the result feels better than a capped 30 usually does on PC.

Or I could go Xbone, not worry about anything and buy the PC version once I've upgraded.

Xbox One version and buy it off of steam when it's stupid cheap next year.

I'm not a PC person at all. I'll say just drop the 60$ or whatever deal you have on a XBone version and save your self the headache.

Unless you really want the mods early next year than go with that. It's all about you and what you want long term.
