Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition PC 05/11/15 + Loyalty Program

Don't remember buying these games. Never played them. But strangely Deathinitive Edition popped into my library.

Ok to skip the first one if I decide to give it a shot? Hopefully since I don't really feel confident committing to 2 games in a series that's been my forgotten backlog fodder for I'm guessing years now.

I bought mine from Amazon, but it was a Steam activated product. Spent 15 minutes entering the keys for the main game, season pass and all the DLC yesterday. Today it's showing me the 20% discount option only.

I'll pass.

It's now showing as 80% off for me. I'll wait to see some opinions first, but I'll probably bite for that amount.

Could anyone say if camera speed can be adjusted for controllers? The sluggishness in the original was a dealbreaker for me :/

I remember this game had a serious stutter problem that to get rid of it the frame rate needed to be locked using riva tunner, i wonder if this has been fixed on this version?

It's been a while since I played DS2, but I'm pretty sure they give a re-cap of the story from the first game so you should be ok. Personally, I was pleasantly surprised by the first game and thought it shared a lot with Zelda. If you're in a hurry you can skip it, but imo it's still a good game and worth playing. IIRC, the second game expands on the formula of the first game and has more options for combat as well as a bigger, more open world.

I totally get that it's not fair. But it seems more of a "hmm that sucks, oh well"-situation to me rather than a "Nordic is fucking over fans and I'll never buy anything from them again"-situation. Console players don't get anything even if they bought 10 copies. It was never going to be fair. All I'm saying that it's blown out of proportion by some people.

As I said, they made the mistake of giving it free to anyone in the first place. They decided to give people MORE, but sadly messed up the execution. These guys bought the IP because they probably think it's still worth something, it sucks to see people that would consider themselves fans to get so upset over a technicality.

Personally, I wouldn't say it's not fair, 80% off is an awesome deal, but if someone deserves a free copy, it will be the owners of the season pass, and I'm saying this as the franchise pack owners.

Still, pretty awesome deal either way and people should be thankful.

No I don't even want it, I just don't understand why they would label a "Loyalty Program" in this way. That's what irks me most about all of this.

Most companies would charge you the full price for the upgrade. This upgrade system is more than fair.

That's not even what I was getting at. Yes it's nice of them to offer a discount.
However the way it's tiered is off. The people who payed more get less doesn't exactly make sense.

From what I was reading on the forums they said they could only choose one product to tie the game to that would allow people to get it for free. So instead of doing the base game (which arguably would have probably been the better choice) they went with the franchise pack version.

Payday isn't until the 15th so I guess I'm screwed. Sucks because I bought both at release + all DLC.

I mean, you're offering a discount for one week, that's great, but don't fucking call it 'Loyalty Program'.

Yeah I read that, however from our own steam guru's here the whole system they had was off. Since the stuff in which they were saying they couldn't do was done by other publishers. As I said not knocking them for giving a discount, however as you said they should have picked a better product. This collection that you get the game for free with wasn't even available until 2014. Thus why would the people getting all the games bundled together for 10 during the holiday sale be more loyalty then those who were buying these games day 1 with all DLC and such? That's where the complaint lied.

I wonder if the system can not only parse whether you own a sku, but when that sku was purchased and present a discount based on that criteria. If so, maybe a free copy could have been given to all who bought the title day 1 / Preorder.

So the "definitive" version of the game suffers from the same issues. Did they just patch 2 with new textures and called it a day? I mean if the technical issues are there I'm sure the shitty dungeon bug is still there and I'm not fucking bothering with that again, I have better things to do than run around every single room in a dungeon hoping for the best.

Edit: Actually it might be too soon to say it suffers from the same issues as the original port considering a good 75% of the people who reviewed it can't seem to get it to stop crashing :lol. Is playtesting not a thing anymore?
Granted, they might not have had any issues on their dev studios, it did happen with JAW's Stranger's Wrath port (Which they made run perfectly once the PS3 asset update hit :) )

So I got this for free on GOG and I have to buy it with 80% off on Steam. Interesting choice of how to do things there.

I bought the Franchise Pack in early 2013 (Mon Jan 07 04:18:42 2013) during a sale, so it was definitely available before 2014.

Looks like Deathinitive Edition isn't worth playing though.

Took a little bit after release but I also now have the 80% off. I was scratching my head for a while there, wondering back to if I purchased it through steam or another place.

Fuck it, bought it, gonna see what the deal is, thanks to refunds it's not so scary to try and see if a game works for you or not anymore.

Someone up there mentioned a dungeon bug... I haven't played the game since launch, but the game was fun. I only ever quit once I got what seemed like a game breaking bug midway through in a dungeon some place. I was looking forward to this, dropped my $6 earlier. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't refund? If I get hit with a still existing game killing bug again. Ugh!

I uh. What. It actually loads my regular Darksiders 2 save. Did they literally sell a texture pack to me for 6 bucks?

PS alt tabbing crashes the game.

PPS loading my old save crashes the game

PPPS starting a new game crashes the game

Edit: Since this thing loads the old saves, it wouldn't surprise me if it loads the old settings file as well. Gonna try moving the old Darksiders 2 files to another folder and see what happens

Edit #2: Where *are* the settings files located? I can't find them. The game starts in 1440p :lol.

Oh hey that Steam post literally confirms this is Darksiders 2: New Textures Edition. It's loading the same saves and settings files as the original release :lol. God fucking dammit, I thought this was more than that.

Edit: Removed settings file, game still loads in 1440p, crashes as soon as I hit new game. GG NordicGames.

Edit#2: oh Appdata folder too. Did they seriously not make sure the re-release didn't load the same fucking files as the old release so it wouldn't constantly crash for people?

Oh fucking hell. I've removed every single thing I can find from the old Darksiders 2 install, it still starts in 1440p using my old settings. Lmao.

This must be your first experience with Nordic Games. They don't have a QA department.

My FPS randomly dropped to 1 FPS then the graphics got corrupted and the game crashed. Or should I say, died.

They shouldn't be charging money for this from *anyone*. This wasn't ready for release. This is literally worse than Arkham Knight

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Well, I bought the Darksiders Franchise Pack from Amazon, so of course I'm not counted as Tier 1. So off to Nordic Games support I go. They've been awesome in the past (The converted a Red Faction: Guerilla GFWL key to Steam for me) so here's hoping.

Edit: Holy shit the game is broken as hell? eek

Oh poop. I was pretty excited when I read about this yesterday. I was in the $6 tier, but I almost spent $30 on this when I thought it was 60 fps on consoles. I figured I'd scan gaf while it downloaded. I hope I can get this working. I just want a better looking darksiders 2.

I was reading about a possible "fix" on the Steam forums: http://steamcommunity.com/app/388410/discussions/0/496880503063789705/

See if any of that helps.

Yep. This worked for me.

Go to C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Darksiders2 and delete the file options.dopt. Then go to your Steam install directory [YourSteaminstall]\userdata\[Steam ID]\388410\remote and also delete the options.dopt file.

And don't set shadow quality to the max. One notch down worked for me.

Shit, it crashes? That sucks. I don't understand why it was so hard for them to just take Darksiders 2 and make it look nicer.

Looking at the Steam reviews, though: Wow at number of people giving it negative reviews just because they didn't get it for free. Gamers really are entitled bitches.

It is more than that
Consider someone bought the games and the dlcs seperatly; they only get a discount
Whereas those that for the franchise pack which contaied the stuff i mentioned above get the game for free

I don't even care that I got it for free if they haven't fixed the bugs/issues from the original version, won't be installing this. A real shame because it is otherwise a pretty good game.
